  1. Hi all Just a notice that if for some reason you wanted to create an account, this can only be done using a twitter account. Spam bots were getting through the normal registration page, and I've elected to disable this (given the present circumstances).
  2. From my point of view, having someone passionate about my running the discord server can only add value. So I wouldn't worry. I would only anticipate issues where members wanted to be part of the management but were not on board with the direction of GDU as a whole (which I'm not sure of at the moment). Right now I'm just really excited about discussing the technical aspects being proposed, including rebuilding the entire GDU code-base within a few months using start of the art tech and modern development principles, i.e: Elementizing standard component-like features and using this code base across everything. E.g. comments on all content. A change to the comments system implements changes across comments site-wide. Every component, down to individual form-fields being elementised for ultimate maintainability. Therefore, the entire site will be updated across the board by updating individual components. Underlying HTML mark-up and CSS classes belonging to a single CSS framework. In other words, only establish new CSS classes or HTML structures as an exception rather than a rule, leading to ultimate maintainability. Forum integration will be done via a bridge, rather than hacky member and template integrations. A bridge is an advanced connection and data-sync which will result in flawless integration. Easier said that done, but when implemented correctly, this will be lead a fantastic website experience. In particular, if GDU's various sections can be rebuilt in a matter of months, then imagine what else can be achieved.
  3. I mean, under a sale I would lose all control. There's some risk there. But considering a few weeks ago, the site was closing down, what do you really lose? The discord really is yours. Even someone wanted to, they couldn't take it from you. At worst, a re-branding.
  4. Take this with a grain of salt. It is always exciting to throw around new ideas, starting something fresh. Following a notice of the site's closing, I was contacted by a developer with an offer of how a new GDU might look. It's tricky, because on one hand you want to protect something special against an unknown, on the other, it would simply disappear off the face of the earth anyway. It might be a matter of selling GDU. What is being discussed at the moment is exciting to me in terms of the development ideas being discussed. Not features, but constructing bespoke web apps which are maintainable, quick to build, and easy to expand. I'm very impressed with the formula proposed. Early days, but the following ideas are present: New domain name, but retaining the "GDU" brand; Preservation of data of the forums, games, scripts, refinery, gallery, tutorials. IPB and the website otherwise being deleted and replaced with new software.
  5. Hi all A few days ago, I put up a closing notice for GDU. Since that time I have been contacted by a developer interested in taking over GDU. We are in discussions at the moment. The most important point is that if GDU were to be taken over, then the existing data needs to be preserved - otherwise it's just another new website. That obviously adds some complications, but more than likely the data would need to be ported to new software. Some existing things are being discussed, particularly on the software side. Then again, I'm easily excitable. Watch this space.
  6. I have reverted the site back to the design / layout immediately before the so-called "GDU4" update. The present set up is much, much, much more complete. To explain... I had been working on a new design for the website which I labelled as GDU4 as well as an upgrade to the forum software. My availability however was very volatile throughout 2018 and obviously I announced I was quitting its maintenance. As a result, the "GDU4" was launched half-baked and after that I just couldn't find time to complete it. Therefore... we're back to this! The Refinery is also way more useable now. Games section is down at the time of posting since I did some back-end updates to that as part of GDU4 but I'll try get that back up ASAP.
  7. Thank you for posting in such detail. It is pretty amazing you still have dial up. I thought I was late to the broadband party... in 2006. I do think that I understand the cause of the issues that you're having and I know how to fix them. But as you can see, I have decided to call it quits with maintaining this website and there are presently no efforts to revive its activity. In all likelihood the website will be shut down soon.
  8. There are ads actually, for all users with less than 6 posts. Perhaps your site's dropdown's use CSS. As I said in the other thread (which I saw before this was posted), the problem might be the use of CDNs. Perhaps in particular loading jquery from google: //ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js We could actually just make this local, obviously very easy. But not sure what the go is these days with this site. I'm retired, this design is half-down and the market has moved on. Perhaps replacing this site with a fresh install of maintained software is the best approach. Then I would expect these types of issues to disappear as well.
  9. Yeah there's a lot of custom stuff integrated into this forum, and a lot of relies on javascript without any non-js fallback (as the standard software would have). I think we're using CDNs (i.e. loading resources externally) which might be conflicting with your adblock.
  10. There once was a bloop. The bloop woke up from a coma in the hospital all confused with no one around. The bloop's name was... Rick Grimes
  11. All hail lord Gaben. I suppose it's not surprising given the huge amount of RM stuff that is created over the years before authors disappear.
  12. I think we've had this convo before, see PM dated 22 May 2012. Although I did my change my avvy for a few years, I've had this one running since late 2006 (just before I started this forum, which just turned 12 years old).
  13. all good things* Thanks man.
  14. One must asked one's self, is it an error... or a feature? ;)
  15. Yo Bob, I haven't really looked at anything in this topic but you know that radio and checkbox are diff right? A checkbox allow multiple options while radio allows just one.
  16. Hey Tats, that is really good!! Sorry for my late reply, the client has been a bit of a nightmare. I only took this job to make a bit of extra cash on the side but it's basically led to me working on it in all my spare time, and this particular issue has fallen well below a list of other priorities for the website. i haven't had a chance to test the above sprite yet, so let me get back you when I'm back on this matter. :)
  17. Thanks Arky and the two others above since my last reply. Really appreciate those sentiments. I'm not sure if I said this above but I can't really take credit for RMXPU/GDU. It was always a community driven by a few core people, I just happened to install the software :> And ya, you're in the story.
  18. Ok, give me the link or ID of the game and I'll take care of it.
  19. Oh dear. I must have a seriously bad perception of time that has passed if old members like Joey walk in and don't remember anything. I mean... all the hours you were on this place and all the hours in chat. Like seriously. I remember the good ol' days like it was yesterday. It feels like you never left. Perhaps that's why I kept putting effort into building the site... Can someone please give us the medal already.
  20. You can unpublish it If you want it deleted from the server, then you need to request that a mod that. Why do you wana delete it? :
  21. Ya of course, that is quite obviously hand-sprited. I've done spriting maybe like 10 years ago when I first got RMXP, but turns out I don't have any talent for art / graphics .
  22. Thank you very much for your submission Tatsu (btw, were you known as blackbound before?). That is probably not quite what I'm looking for. It's a great sprite though, but it's probably not as close a representation to the real thing as I need. Hopefully my expectations are not too high. For context, this is for a very popular commercial business and I am trying to get the frames to look as realistic as possible. It's namely a wholesale business, so the look of the framing on the website needs to look really good - it basically needs to look like what they're going to get. Because the repeating tile is 28px by 28px, I am sure that it needs to be sprited. Simply shrinking a high quality texture isn't the way to go, I think because we need the precision of spriting to get a clean, yet realistic looking representation.
