I will be finishing my degree soon, so there's a possibility I I will get bored. Below is what I would plan to do on the site in moving forward.
The my GDU concept: http://www.gdunlimited.net/forums/topic/10787-personalising-gdu-concept/
This may first as it is the easiest to code. The goal is to make it an effective system to rout members around the site. It will allow members to find all the content they're interested, have interacted with, bookmarked, and importantly motivate members to submit to the content sections.
The Games section
This is what I pin the survival of GDU on. Thus far not entirely effective or successful by definitely of interest to people. The following updates will be done
- Remastered content system, eg add as many pages and pagetypes as you want, each with a BBCode textbox. Unlimited customizability, almost.
- A blog system, blog posts when published will show up in the recent content / posts (isn't that big motivation? :P) Each blog post will have its own comments.
- Comments at the bottom of each page, not a standalone page. Ability to turn off GDU integrated member functions and use the disqus comments plugin
- Design customization: a logo, background, themes, color schemes, and no GDU header.
- increase upload size to 100mb and add more 3rd party hosts (right now its dropbox).
How its our drawcard: It should be very easy to erect a largely complete website for the game, and will the internal integrations and community involvement we can at least get people adding their games here. But one thing is definitely high on the list is automatically generated userbars and advertising graphics for websites and forum signatures. Simply click a button and the system will take your logo and other data to immediately generate graphics and code so you're ready to go in advertising your page; thus, if done, will drive traffic here. And hopefully we'll see some growth that way.
Engines
Engines will grow too. I've tried to integrate unity, its difficult right now. If all goes to plan, the way we'll diversify is that people who use those engines will come here to use the games section to display their games, and we'll have our forums ready and waiting. In the end I want the engine pages to increase, be a shitload better than what they currently are, and have some interactions such as reviews on them as well.
