Hello and Welcome Gab! I hope you enjoy your time here. (this forum is pretty awesome isn't it :3) When you do your signature, to you incorporate your full name? (probably not, but it would be one REALLY interesting Signature if so :D)

Do push up bras take things too far?
kellessdee replied to FranklinX's topic in Debate and Mature Discussion
You are wrong, it's a great technique. Sorry, I take that back. I couldn't resist. :( *slaps self back onto topic* Anywho, I don't really see how it matters, or even how it is some kind of "trick" or "lie" or whatever you want to call it. I hate to get into things like this, as it comes very close to objectifying women (people are not objects). But, nonetheless: The only time it may seem like a false presentation of a woman's breast size, is in the situation of a one-night stand. You hook up with a girl at a club, get into bed and realize that she was wearing a push-up bra. Well is it really a big deal? A one-night stand is...just one night, you will probably never see her again. In the case of a girlfriend (unless perhaps she ONLY wears push-up bras) you will be able to learn approximately the breast size before you start dating her (assuming one actually gets to know the person before dating them) and thus, there is no false representation. Also, IMO I don't really think push-up bras cause a girl's breasts to look THAT much larger, they are just more "lifted" or perky. The padding in a push up bra is not that thick (I have had girl friend's who wear push-up bras and honestly, the breasts look larger OUT of the bra). People choose what to wear based on what they think will make them look better, regardless of gender. And it isn't necessarily to make certain body parts look bigger or smaller, clothing is chosen to highlight what one feels are their best features and hide what they believe are not so great. Perhaps someone doesn't like the look of their stomach, so they NEVER wear revealing shirts (or take their shirt off) and maybe even wear large shirts, purposely to hide this feature; is that not the same thing as wearing push-up bras to make one's breasts look larger? It is, they are hiding the appearance of their stomach and then say they end up in bed with someone and that person did not know the appearance of their stomach. or what about females that wear large shirts and sweaters which make their breasts seem smaller? Well for a guy who wants a female with small breasts, this could be the same kind of "false representation" of the person, for this logic (that a female must accurately display their body) then it would only be 100% accurate if everyone was naked all the time. Otherwise, you will never truly know what someone looks like naked. I would also like to redirect attention to lizzie's last post: Not all women wear push-up bras to make their breasts look bigger, support is a big decision; us men take it for granted that we don't have to lug around excess upper body parts; and most fail to realize that it can actually be physically demanding. Finally, touching on the subject of plastic surgery: Plastic Surgery is much much more of a lie than push-up bras; to everyone (including the person getting the surgery.) They are physically altering who they are, and thus creating a false image of themselves. But I am not one to try and dictate how people should live their lives and I refuse to. I don't think plastic surgery is ever a good idea, and wish people would be more true to themselves; but who am I to judge? Everyone should have a right to do what they wish to their own bodies (something that laws deny people around the world, but that is another topic altogether). -
Welcome! I hope you enjoy your time here :)

Add Elemental Gem to Weapons and Armors
kellessdee replied to xxultimaxx's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Scripts (RGSS1)
Just tried this, very nifty, and well integrated into the default menu :alright: although like RKO said, your image files aren't working :( also, i would advise putting the script itself in code tags in the spoiler tags

SCRIPT HERE

otherwise good job :) is this your first script? (well, full + publicly released i mean :3) -
Heehee I got this a little while ago, thanks to your nice siggy advert :3 I thank you formally here for sharing this.

Frustrated >.<

disney as a company? Yes I generally dislike them, and generally dislike their movies. However the classic animations like Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty (yes very artistic movie), Lion King, Aladdin, etc. Are all very well done children's animations imo.

It seems that recently Valve has decided to make Team fortress 2 free forever! No ads, No cash shop or anything like that. Full Article And the steam website of course: Get TF2 Here! I personally think this is awesome (since I am poor and want team fortress 2)! Though I wonder how those that originally paid for Team Fortress 2 might feel about this.

Hey no problem man, thanks for fixing it up :) Looks organized and very informative. Good luck :alright:

me: stop that neck, you aren't a balloon!

It's still early in development, so if you mean details in terms of gameplay and features, we are still deciding. If you mean for the story, like isaac said those are the details. Wonderland, as Lewis Carol intended, is the embodiment, personification if you will, of our imaginations. It is something different for everyone. If it helps, this game isn't based off the stories written by Lewis Carol but rather the world he has created. @isaac: this is the first time I have seen the full advert. Good job :alright:

Project Forum Requirements please give us a little more information, and please put some game info in the topic. I know you have a link, but you are more likely to get responses if you provide more info here.

Well...there is probably more to it then that (event triggers, etc.) but the the movement is *mostly* within that method... good luck :alright:
-
No problem man :) Glad i could help. If you ever have any other questions, ask away :)

1. I am not sure; the event's are loaded through the map's data (from map editor) and since there isn't really anyway to modify the map editor....however the only thing i can think of is perhaps if you head over to Game_Event script, look at line 30: moveto(@event.x, @event.y) maybe if you change that to: moveto(@event.x / 2, @event.y / 2) the only issue is that if that is referring to the logical position or actual position. If logical (as in x based on 32px tiles and y based on 32px tiles) it may not work correctly. 2. It would take some work, but I believe the Game_Character1 2 & 3 scripts is where you should start. Game_Character2's update_move method may be of interest to you 3. Z layer? Access-or-not layer? I am not sure I follow.... EDIT: Oh, it looks like you figured out 1 & 3?

Noob saibot: Did you really have to split kiriashi's post up like that to make essentially the same post? How is he getting butthurt? he is clearly responding to your idea that he wasn't being serious. Explaining one's actions != butthurt. But anyways, Not once did ANYONE say Rmxpu is the best, or even perfect. We said it's awesome here (hence why we are still here) and we also said it's the only site that matters. to us. And why wouldn't it? I am not an active member anywhere else, Kiri's been here a long + administrator. All in all, this argument is going nowhere, because there is no argument. No one is denying the fact that RMXPU could use improvement, yet you keep bringing it up as if it's relevant to the conversation. Kiri said we could use improvement, I have said there is room for improvement, as there always will be. So I really don't see what point you are trying to make here. Like you said, us thinking this site is awesome is our opinion, and we never said it was fact; it's just how we feel about the site. If you feel differently, that's fair: you are entitled to your opinion just as much as we are, just as much as ANY other member on the site. No one's butthurt. I don't want a fight to start over this, as essentially EVERYTHING in this thread is simply opinion. Yes, there is fact here and there; but when it comes down to what makes a good rmxp community; what would be the best rmxp community is completely subjective.
-
I am *pretty* sure when you purchase RMXP you are able to make commercial games even with the rtp (PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE ME, I AM NOT SURE) (commercial as in for sale) however to expand on what Kiri said, despite me not into selling rmxp games....people will buy, but i think it's more along the lines of: would someone buy a rmxp game made with RTP? By all means do what you wish, but just something to think about. (cuz people have bought/sold rmxp games before, i dunno how successful; but generally they have custom graphics, music, scripts etc.)
-
Well, I do hope you are right. I think we were lucky to even get an official translation of XP/VX, but you are probably right here. I am not a business man :) I never said there isn't room for improvement, and marked does know this as do I. However, I still think this is an awesome community, the people/users make up the community, content makes up the site. We may not have the MOST content, but I think overall the users here are awesome and thus I believe this community is awesome (mind you, I haven't been here THAT long.) While you are right here as well...look at Action Game Maker (or whatever).... It may be bad business practice in terms of competition, but I think they either need to rethink their approach to other Game Makers, or just stick to what they are good at. EDIT: Btw, you do make very good points.
-
Yea, i think they should stick to the rpg maker series, they were on the right path; if they just focus on the drawbacks they could easily create the perfect rpg maker. *crosses fingers* lets hope they do it right :)
-
Oh hehe I missed that :) Well, I definitely think rgangsta will do an excellent job (much better than just the map as battleback :P).
-
<3 <3 <3's for being a huge zelda fan :3 I wish I could make a nice battleback for you, but I'm not that much of an artist...however, perhaps one could be made from the tileset? Or maybe (unless you already have actual battle backs for other areas) you could just have the map displayed as the battle back? It would only take some minor coding if you're interested :3 (google search lacks zelda battle backs D:)

Aha I think I have the solution to your problem. First off, because you have a method called luck for Game_Battler (super class of Game_Actor) and a accessor attribute luck for Game_Actor (since attribute accessors count as methods) it overwrites your Game_Battler's luck method. So you must remove the luck attribute from Game_Actor. Now I know you said that gives you an error, but I have a solution to that. The issue, is when you click okay in the database (or apply) it creates a new Armor/Weapon object based on the hidden RPG module and hidden classes and saves them in the Marshal format, and then you load them into the $data_weapons/armors variable; and since the RPG::Armors/Weapons have been overwritten, these objects now also have the luck attribute (ruby is a very dynamic language and methods can be added/changed during run-time), however since it was not initialized when you originally saved the database (as it created the objects based on the old classes) each weapon and armor attribute is set to nil (no value). Now while I am not 100% sure if this is the EXACT process rpg maker goes through, it is the best answer I can come up with based on the behaviours of these scripts... Anyways, to fix it; what you will need to do is set EVERY single weapon/armor used in the database ($data_weapons[1].luck = 0, $data_weapons[2].luck = 0 $data_weapons[3].luck = 0...etc basically the index number in [] corresponds with the ID# in the database) to a value before you can call the luck attribute correctly. I hope this all made sense, if you need further clarification lemme know. as for spoiler tags:
spoiler goes here
Also if you don't mind (I don't mean to cause any offence, just some advice) I have a few tips for your scripting: (1) Since you are scripting for your game (not for others), I would suggest not aliasing methods and simply editing them right in their scripts in the editor. Although it's not really noticeable, by aliasing you are causing unnecessary method calls which use processing/ram power. (2) Some of your aliases do not call the original method, and are thus unnecessary. Although you have been using it correctly in most cases, if you alias a method then overwrite it; but do not call the original in the overwritten method...then you really only have to overwrite the method without aliasing it...(although if you edit the scripts right in their spots, you would not have to alias anyways) (3) Although not essential to efficient coding, it would be useful (to yourself mostly) to comment your code where necessary. It can help when changes are necessary or if you do not remember what exactly is happening. Overall though, nothing wrong with what you have :alright: hope you don't mind me nitpicking XD I at least hope it might help

Should be studying....RMXPU stole my soul (p.s. that's not a bad thing)

I think he meant unrealistic as in the goals, or expected outcome...like the makers being too ambitious for their own good. I am not sure if that will cause a site to go inactive (directly anyways), but I can see this possibly causing a drop in people who play rpg maker games, and thus a drop in popularity overall. Which is another main contributing factor I believe to the current state of the Rpg Maker Communities; How can the community be active if that which they support/promote's popularity is fading? And of course, like everyone has said, the way members treat each other can be a HUGE issue. Like I have always said I hate the elitist attitude that a lot of Rpg Maker (all rpg makers) users display. I am sorry if this offends anyone, but how can you be an elite game developer working with Rpg maker? There is nothing wrong with using it of course, and great games can be made in Rpg maker, but seriously with it's current limits and what not, how can it really be considered much more than a hobby? It's probably a great stepping stone (maybe another reason it has lost popularity, people leaving for more powerful engines or other game libraries) but I just don't see how they develop an elitist attitude. I doubt you see anything like that among actual commercial game developers (and they are actually competing for sales) I think people need to learn to accept the fact that everyone is a noob at some point, how can you possibly be good at something the first time you use it? Unless you were scripting 1337 action battle systems straight from the womb, you have no right to bash another user because you proclaim yourself to be better. Of course, on the other hand of things; there are those out there who need to learn how to take constructive criticism. I know for some it's hard to find out that the concept they were working on isn't as awesome as they thought; but if you want people to enjoy your game they should take people's advice and work on it. And even if they don't take that advice, there is no sense in getting angry and defensive (it's not worth it, arguing over whether one's idea is great or not with someone you will never meet in real life...and even if you do; it's still not worth it) [/rant] Anywho, just some more thoughts. It's not easy to pin the blame for the current state of the RPG Maker World on a specific set of factors; since it is clearly a plethora of different things. I am afraid to say I also highly doubt it will get better, unless Enterbrain comes out with a new maker (even then) which is also unlikely considering the current popularity of the rpg makers (who knows though, maybe it's more popular in japan, and they will still find a new english version worth releasing) Thankfully I found this great community :alright: so as Kiri stated: RMXPU is awesome and that's all that matters. (to paraphrase)
