No offense, but I'm not really impressed by the overall generic characters and plot. What would make this game unique from the several other hundred RmXP games out there?

Minor flaw, but irrelevant to the point of the contest. The actual map. NPCs are just props to make it look better. Ambiance? You mean the lack of BGM? No such thing in RL. Fun! And that's the whole point of the contest! =)

Just figure out if your want to script or event. And gets some gfx.

Polraudio said what I was about to suggest. Check for different blank tiles on other layers. Sometimes that can mess things.
