  1. Fangames don't necessarily have to be based off of an existing game. My partner Germany and I are making a Hetalia-based game, and that's an anime. Either way, whatever you make, you get learning experience. And that learning experience comes in real handy later on. ;)
  2. A formula would be pretty useful. But yeah, so far I'm just making wide estimates with each different battle, then testing over and over again while making small changes each time. Trial and error. :P Time-consuming, but that seems only way... (Been trying to figure out battles for about a week, they're a lot more difficult than I thought XD)
  3. Aaah man, things like this make me wish I had the means to buy them. :< I really liked the first version you sent out, Pol! I actually downloaded that one and tried it out. Usually the only things I'm out for in a game are graphics and story, but the concept is actually really interesting.

    Event not running

    The very first event command is you setting the variable to 4 already, right? In that case the event should definitely 100% work. I can think of a few reasons why it might not, but no guarantee they are the right reasons. One is that you could have forgotten to turn on the switch for the Scorpion quest. Another is that the event pages 3 and 4 haven't been set to a switch, so they're coming out on top and overriding this event page (if there's nothing on those pages, for example). The second reason is the one that always gets me. :P

  6. Not to mention that having to look through the script and translate the important bits will help you orient yourself with the script and how it works, too. When you find a script, it's pretty helpful to look through all the comments and different sections and such ;D Will be extremely helpful if you're using that script a lot in the future. speaking of learning about code, Pol, know any good places to learn RGSS? I've been trying from several tutorials, but it's shooting way over my head :P
  7. We are. After my exams are finished I should be able to complete my part and send it to Germany. when a high schooler like me says she'll do something, know it will probably be sometime within no less than a month ;D

The shirt doesn't match, and it has actual legs, but I think you could afford a little mismatch there, since I can't find anything that totally matches it... and I don't think there's a pixel scarecrow out there D:
  10. Yeah, I tend to come by and reply to any new things, but otherwise if there's nothing, I just look around and come back later. :) But I'm here a lot regardless of whether I'm logged in or not.
  11. Would be nice if we were making a Touhou fangame, but we've never even had interest in it. The one we were going to make was based off the RPG Maker game Ib. ;D But nice advice, Germany! And good luck on whatever you want to make, GraveBusta.
  12. About a year ago I got this laptop with Windows 8... either it was already 8.1 or it upgraded, but I know that I detested it for a while too. But after a while I got spoiled by the nice brightness and display, because my old laptop was tiny, dim, and had a terrible battery that had to always be charged for it to run lol. So I actually prefer this laptop. Windows XP and 7 will always have a place with me though.

      For a long time, I didn't think they were appealing. I don't know what happened, but the other day I got bored, and boom. Got into the whole mess.

      I don't consider them games, but interactive stories. I do enjoy visual novel style games with more actual gameplay though.

  15. Even though you say this game may be the backburner for now, it still caught my attention--I'm very interested in trying it out! Will be playing it soon, and hopefully I can post feedback of some sort when I finish. :)

  18. Mm, true, you can contribute lots--but there's contributing the most and also the most helpful person, which I see as two different things (similar but not exactly the same??) But yes, looks like I made the right decision to come back to GDU! I've only been here a while, but it's really nice :D Love the place and its community.
  19. Germany and I are no spriters. We're no artists, either, but we could try our hand at the Tiny Box Tim facesets. Won't guarantee anything good, but we're willing to give it a go! And post your game here when you're done so we can see how it is~ Would love to play it!

  22. Yeah, the script editor seems to be okay with some characters, but not the text events in the actual game. RMXP does a similar thing with the music sign, changing it into something else. Weird, since I'm pretty sure RPG Maker 2000 was able to use those. Kind of disheartening that they removed that feature. Time to go on the hunt for a script. Or at least a thread that addresses this, courtesy of Google .w. I've tried out multiple fonts as you suggested, dolarmak, but I didn't find any that would let me use the music sign. And when I enter it in as text, it turns into a question mark, like Bob's omega. Shows up that way in the game, too.
  23. A simple thing that I can't figure out. Ugh. Soooo. How is it that I can use signs like ♪ ... in RMXP, like you could in RPG Maker 2000? I think a script might be necessary. But I think I'm overlooking something, because it shouldn't be that difficult, right? ... Right? :< Thanks for any help! ~Kitsuki
