Free Music Resource - Over 1800 Tracks
Kitsuki replied to Eric Matyas's topic in Resource Showcase & Critique
Heeeey! Nice to see someone cranking out so much good work! I haven't had a chance to listen to them all yet, but they're inspiring and 100% usable! Awesome work! <3 I might think about using some of them in my game, although we're getting some original music already... but these are good enough to tempt me to use them ;) -
Damn, Mage, nice! I obviously have no idea how to appeal to an audience, seeing as after these few days I haven't come up with anything. :P But that's a pretty good idea... make those resource-hunters contribute to the community before they ask for things. Although I'd like to see effort on peoples' part to contribute to others' games and such. Have their posts in the community be of substance rather than just thrown together posts that will get them enough points to get their resources, then they disappear forever. Or at least until they need another resource. But I'm sure that there will be monitoring on what kind of posts and how much effort goes into them, so that's not something I worry about. Though I'm sure there will be those who enjoy the forum a lot and decide to come back regularly. Heck, I count as one of those resouce-grabbers who came back to GDU after a while. Glad I did too, it's a great place. This probably comes off as useless, but I could offer RPG Maker XP maps, I guess... TTuTT not sure if people actually need those anymore, but hey. Might as well in case someone wanders along. Maybe having "classes" would be nice? I saw some old posts where Kiriashi (bless him and his maps) was having a mapping class, I think. Gather up a group of enough people who have a decent amount of points and are interesting, and having certain tutorials or activities on a certain engine. I definitely would have wanted to be part of that (I would want to be part of anything on GDU, actually, so I'm a little biased), but with my luck the thread was years old already. I definitely have no idea if that would be decent or not, but figure I'll throw some things out there. With luck something might actually be workable. ;)

The only thing keeping me stuck in the RPG Maker scene is Insanitalia. That damn thing eats up hours of time, I swear half the day I spend on it I could spend studying or something. RPG Maker a program is to make things quick and easy, but when you wanna make something with substance that takes more than just a "plug and play" sort of process to make, RM gets boring. Fast. Don't get me wrong, RPG Maker is good to hone your skills when it comes to making a game. Not making the actual game--more like getting an idea of an idea of a game. It's cool how to effectively introduce plot and such, or how to pace a game. But it teaches you nothing (or very little) when it comes to actual game dev, unless you want to spend the time learning RGSS. I've been an RMXP-only user for two years now. Put me in a room with Unity for 72 hours. 72 hours later, I'd probably still have no idea how to use the damn thing. :P If a new RPG Maker came out, I wouldn't buy it. When you know one engine, you pretty much know most of the rest... I could easily pick up Ace after a couple hours. I don't see the point of purchasing something that doesn't have many new features, or will save you a lot of time or something. It's kind of like the person who buys a perfectly good phone then throws it out and buys the next one when the last one is working perfectly. Why throw away something that's totally functional? maybe I'm the only cheapskate here, pardon the rant.

Thanks for the info, Mage! Although this doesn't look too different from RPG Maker. It seems like it has some other features (that 2D platformer stuff), but nothing landed too far from the tree. I pretty much agree with this. I was pulled into the RPG Maker series because of the simplicity and style of games like Ib, The Witch's House, Mogeko Castle. I like 3D games, but I've never been too drawn towards making them... mostly because it would take a lot more work and investing of my time and effort. Maybe I'll move into Unity, but even a 3D RPG Maker would take considerably more investment to create a decent game. :P With 2D games, if you try even a little bit, maybe chuck some story/mildly decent writing in there, you can make something pretty okay.

This thread was active like five years ago. :P Check the dates before you post!

Haha, no, I wouldn't spend that much for an RPG Maker when I can do perfectly good things with RPG Maker XP... but that's me, and I'm a cheapskate. I like XP as it is, to be honest. The only thing I'd hope for, like Pol said, is that it has the capability and improvements of the other engines. In my opinion, Ace graphics/mapping aren't all that great. So the graphics and maps of RMXP combined with the Ace engine's versatility? Yes, please. Enterbrain and RPG Maker community. If there's ever an RPG Maker with these features, please make resources for it. My problem with Ace is that there's not as many resources as with XP. Though I'm planning to move away from RPG Maker soon, anyway. Where'd you hear about this new RPG Maker, anywho?

Sorry I wasn't of much help, Emily... ;u; But good luck on your game!
-
Hey, Elizabeth, I can't spot anything wrong from the event I saw... Although that might be because I'm not familiar with this sort of problem, some other seasoned RMXP users here might know ;) But maybe try checking all your layers. Sometimes there might be a passibility error on another layer even if the map looks fine--you might have covered it up, or it might not be visible. Be sure to always erase your tiles with the upper left tile!

Top "Insert # Here" Favourite Video Game Remixes
Kitsuki replied to Ardaceus's topic in Entertainment & Media
I only have four that I can think of off the top of my head, but here, have them! #4 To the Moon - Theme... Listen here #3 Corpse Party - Chapter 1 BGM... Listen here #2 Catherine - Bizet L'Arlésienne Second Suite Farandole... technically it's not a "video game remix", but the musicians pretty much took Bizet's piece and did the remixing for the actual game, so there! :) ... Listen here #1 Pursuit ~ Cornered - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney... Listen here And I highly doubt that this counts either, but it has video game stuff in it and I listen to it at least seventeen times a day so... listen to this pure beauty, no really, just listen to it. >8} -
Hi, Emily! It would really help if you also showed us a screenshot of the autorun event for the cutscene as well.

I agree 100% with what Mage says. It's a small community with the regulars and the occasional newcomer (who'll hopefully become regulars as well). Despite not having a larger population like the Chaos forums, it's super nice to hang and just chat with everyone or read posts. The days where GDU was big seem to have come and gone, but I do believe with what Mage suggested, we can make the community bigger. Maybe not reach its full potential, since I think the opportunity for that has kind of passed, but you never know! I'm not sure how big RPG Maker still is, anyway. O.o But yes, I think we definitely have room to improve and grow the community a bit. Maybe with a bit of promoting on other sites. (Although GDU does have facebook and other social networking already, right?) Without your saltiness scaring everyone off, Sal ;)

I'll list the anime that I remember with the most nostalgia... they're not necessarily good. But just the ones that at the time gave me the best memories. 1. Bleach 2. Death Note 3. Hikaru no Go 4. Mushishi 5. Corpse Party: Tortured Souls Corpse Party is extremely low on the list thanks to having bad pacing. :P But for a good portion of those days I was obsessed with the games, so it gets a place just for that. Mushishi and Hikaru no Go tied, but I put HnG first because it was, well, my first. ;) I really liked Death Note, but Bleach I was in love with for the longest time of all these.

owo Since you posted this on the Game Jam page, I think I'd like a review! If you have the time, of course. GameType: Demo Game Engine: RPG Maker XP Game Author: Kitsuki (me) and Naoto (GermanyXItaly1000). Game Genre: Action? Maybe fantasy (in the future, not in demo) Game Page: http://www.gdunlimited.net/games/insanitalia Author's Comment: Note that this is a fangame! I think that in the future that anyone can play this, but the only need-to-know info is that the characters are all personifications of nations. That's why they're addressed as "America" and "Italy", which can be confusing for someone not familiar with Hetalia the anime. :) Everyone except the waiter in one scene is a personification. Also another note that the game has changed very much since the demo released a year ago! Just to let you know :D

ohh I could possibly pull Germany back onto GDU for this (ovo) snice he seemed interested in it before! I would say go for it, Omar, if you want to! ;D
-
owo What was this? Now I'm kinda interested
-
*slowly rickrolls into GDU*

Aah, explains that. My friends have always encouraged me to get into Pokémon but I'm just like "... lemme finish Ace Attorney first plz" <- Yeah, I haven't even finished that series yet, you can't really expect me to play all the Pokémon games, too XD Not to mention, I'm not that much of a DS person in the first place, seeing as all I ever played is Phoenix Wright and Dinosaur King :P But thanks for the explanation, Ardaceus!

too kawaii for me D: //shot My goodness... the Justin Bieber memes are a little harsh, haha. I like the tree one, though. And the Asian one, those always get me. I'm Asian myself, but I don't find it all that offensive XD But hey, I am a 12-years-old who watches Pewds, I must post another Pewds meme ... pls don't take that seriously
-
I have absolutely no idea what that means ;D Seeing as I'm 100% Vietnamese! XD But what does it mean? I'm curious now, Omar
-
Eh, the only beef I have with Bieber is that he's an arse. Other than that, he's cool. Just an arse. Also, since The Matrix used to be one of my favourite movies (... actually, it's still up there with my favourites), have one of many Morpheus memes. I wonder how he keeps his glasses on... O.o
-
idk if this counts but it's one of the only ones I ever said in abundance... ignoring the fact that all I ever do in real life is regurgitate memes. [¬º-°]¬ pls dtn't judge me for be fan

Kitsuki is a city in the Oita prefecture in Japan, and that's pretty much all I know about it. ;u; Although I've been going by "Kitsuki" for several years now--on deviantART, sometimes in rl as well. Probably more people know me as Red, though. :P Kitsuki's probably a mix of "Kitsune", fox in Japanese, and "Tsuki", which means "moon". I'm sure I didn't know those two words at the time I made that name for myself, so not sure where it came from in the first place...
