  1. So... this is a poll to boost Pol's self-esteem? :D :D Just kidding, Pol! You're 100% awesome. :thumbsup:
  2. Ah, I see what ya meant. Just need a simple autorun for that, then. ;) Not the whole shebang with custom move routes or anything. A lot of cutscenes and stuff like that can be done with autorun. If you want to learn more of the basic commands, I really recommend watching those tutorial vids. I didn't understand RMXP and what it was capable of, or even how to use it, when I first started. That video series right there helped me get a pretty good grasp of it. Good luck with your game! ;D
  3. I woke up after falling asleep in the middle of writing my cover letter and when I printed it out it had "I love you" at the bottom instead of "Sincerely" D:

  4. Politicians ... just kidding who even-- //shot
  5. You're new to RMXP, aren't you? Well, that's okay, we're here to help. :D Next time, though, be sure to make your posts more informative. The question is, do you want the player to still be able to move around with the NPCs following them--and then for the NPCs initiate conversation when they touch the player? Or do you want to have it all in one scene, with the player unable to move freely? You can use an autorun and set move routes, then "show text" command to show dialogue. But if you're looking to have the NPC follow the player while the player can still move around, then that takes a little more work with custom move routes, but I'll wait until I know exactly what you're looking for. If you are in fact completely new to RMXP, I would suggest you watch Narutorealm's tutorial videos first: They help you to get a good grasp of how the engine works and all. ;)
  6. I got that WWI song "Over There" stuck in my head and I can't get it out D:

      ShinkuAura

      The only way we can get it out is blowing your brains out. Or maybe listening to another song that is very addicting as the previous?

      Kitsuki

      no, I want to keep my brain... it's somewhat important to things I plan to do in the future D:

      ... song is still stuck in my head. ;u;

      You must have Long term memory, like me. Maybe you should try and listen to acoustic music or something. That helps!

  7. Seems ol' Saltome is salty as ever. ;) Have fun in the tropics, Mark! With all the maintenance you do on this place and how busy you've been, you at least deserve to be somewhere warm, lol.
  8. Definitely XP for me. I've personally never seen the appeal of Ace's characters. I don't particularly like the VX or Ace RTP either, which may factor in to my dislike. The mapping system is a definite no for me--everything looks so square and linear. I know RM is supposed to be linear in the first place, but at least XP's nature tilesets had some nice shape and forms to it. VX and Ace's tiles and characters are just too short and stumpy and it rubs me the wrong way. Though, I have enjoyed games that use VX or Ace... but all of them were built on good characters and stories, as well as having interesting maps with beautiful atmosphere. So be sure you've got those things tightened down. ;) But overall I've enjoyed XP games much more, with their taller characters and nice(r?) graphics. That being said. Don't mix too much of XP and VX/Ace, or don't mix it at all. Keep art style constant and such, and make sure the things you need are attainable, either already available or to be custom-made for you. Nothing like starting a game and finding out that you can't do it because of lack of resources. :P
  9. Something like that sounds pretty good. Or a reply system or something, since we have to comment on our own games to reply to anyone who writes something in the comment section. I like "Feedback and critique" than "comments". Better connotation, for sure. I'm starting to associate the latter with one-liners that are something like "lol!!!1!! kewl story bruh". I think it's because of that kind of attitude on Youtube and deviantART regarding comments, especially the former. Even deviantART has a separate category for "Critique" aside from its comments, so even just changing the name to something like "Feedback" might make a different impression for users who are considering leaving some form of feedback. ;) Reviews should probably be a different section from the things I mentioned above, so I like all your ideas. :thumbsup: If you're planning to carry them out, then good luck! Man, there sure needs to be more appreciation for your work on this site, Mark. Good work, carry on!
  10. Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary is killing me slowly again

  11. I just hit 100 switches in my RPG project. I shouldn't be worried, right? There should be this much, if not more, right? RIGHT? D:

    1. Bob423

      Bob423

      Don't worry about that. As long as you don't run out of space, it doesn't matter. If you can find a way to use fewer and still produce the same results, go for it. Variables that are only ever 0 or 1 can work as extra switches too (cuz that's all a switch really is anyway)

      I hope you back up your game data. There's a script for that;

      LOL I remember I was worried about it too XD Now I have about 550 switches in my game so you're just beginning :P

  12. Updating this thread finally! AS OF 04-6-2015. (this will also be included in the main post) Piano recital tomorrow... I'm nervous, so I needed some down time. Finally got back to working on this thing! Damn, I do love Eddie. Drawing him makes me feel uncertain, I wish I could make him look better. :dizzy: Here are a couple GIFs of what I've got so far for the PV, editing in Sony Vegas! Remember these are just sketches to piece it together before I create the final product of each drawing :D All the work for both these GIFs was done by me ;n; I didn't expect to take so much time editing and adjusting everything. But gee, I think it'll be worth it in the end!

    Oh God. Don't even talk to me about this game... I named my little blob "Darling" and spent 2 hours on it consuming everyone and amassing a huge monster. I probably would have spent hours more on that site... But then "China" came and destroyed everything I had. :cry:
  14. I started with a project I thought would be big and huge, and I was ready to wow the Hetalia fandom with an RM fangame that was sure to be the biggest and best of them all! So I assembled a team, ready to take on and shock the anime world with my amazing fangame. What could go wrong? Development skill? Not needed! I had the engine for two weeks, I already know everything there is to know! Familiarty with the engine I was using? Oh, c'mon. Planning and time management skills? Pssh, yeah, who needs, those? ... apparently I did because I made several huge mistakes. 1) the creator of the original game I was basing mine off of explicitly said not to create fangames of it. Wow, talk about a huge slip-up there. 2) I had huge trouble with coordinating the artists because none of the styles matched and I had no idea how to give instructions properly. 3) Time. I didn't finish anything by any of the deadlines I set. 4) This contributed greatly to number 3... I had NO IDEA what I was doing in the engine. I only had RPG Maker for two months and I thought I could make the best game ever. Haha. No way. Needless to say that fangame (or rather the idea of it, since it never came to fruition) sunk faster than the Titanic. So I've learnt my lessons. Pushed them into a spare cabinet in the recesses of my mind where they come to haunt me every once in a while. And now that I've had the engine for two years and learnt how to event the best I can, I'm putting full effort into my second big fangame. And it's coming along quite nicely, imo. Despite the failure of the first project, which lasted only three months or so, I've learnt a lot from it and am always ready to improve. But after all this I am so ready to leave RPG Maker and learn to use something new. :dizzy:
  15. oh my lord the infamous Saltome returns once more... I haven't seen him in forever D: Amazing, he has been resurrected!
  16. On a scale of 1-10, how fabulous are you? :sweat: as you can see, I'm great at coming up with questions...
  17. Thanks, zahraa! :D Now I can work on it more thanks to finals being finally over! I'm so happy right now :excited: Kagerou Project ftw! And I'm really bad at drawing eyes so that they look nice and symmetrical, sometimes one eye ends up way higher than the other, or bigger :oops: ... so for my own ease of mind I leave one eye until I finish the rest, then draw the other one in. Your improvement is amazing though, love the latest thing I saw from you ;D Let's both continue to improve! got any extra room in that vocaloid corner? we can have a pArty lol
  18. Neither, I go pick up two sticks and make them chopsticks :D
  19. Wow, there are so many drawings/art journals, logs, records in this part of the forum... ;w; so I decided to make my own! It's finals week and I have my last set of very important finals tomorrow, so I decided to go for it. (Instead of studying for physics... what intelligent life decisions I make.) And why not share it with the forum too :> I've recently joined the Outlast fandom--a little late, but oh well. And I'm still a big fan of the Kagerou Project, a series of Vocaloid songs with some awesome PVs to go with them! Lately I've been watching Outer Science's PV (link here if you want to watch it: ). So I decided, why not do a project that includes both? An Outer Science x Outlast crossover PV! Despite having tried to make one of my own videos in this style before and failing, I'm determined to try my hardest this time. So I dug out my old Wacom MTE-450 and set right on it! The first step was to sketch most of the scenes, make a sort of storboard. I started a vague sketch with the very first scene: I finished it where I can flesh out some detail later, quickly lost interest, and moved on to the next scene that got my attention. That one gave me a lot of trouble with the hair, actually. So I made it a fast sketch and resolved to move back when I finish the sketches (which for me will probably be never XD). Moving on to the next! I started to work with some clearer sketches of people, which I try to avoid drawing because I suck at anatomy. I asked for permission to use the design of mellowmonsters.tumblr.com and got permission. :) Both the faces are the same person, just a "before-and-after" sort of effect. After that, I kind of went overboard with this sketch, bringing it into its second stage and even adding colour. Definitely not part of the plan, but I like how I think it's going to look at the end. I went on to nearly finish the second stage sketch for this guy: The fingers either look really ugly or have no fingers at all, just placement for the hand. XD I'll work on it eventually. That's supposed to be a falling computer, which I suppose it'll be at some point when I gather the courage to work on it. So on to the next scene that I really wanted to work on! I was actually proud of that. It only took me half an hour for this one, since the desire to work on it was strong! I liked how the lines were turning out, and the colour as well--the character in the dress (that's not a girl btw... his name is Waylon Park, same character in the last image) is in his second stage of sketching, the one in the vest was in his first. But then my program just had to go and crash on me ;n; I lost pretty much everything--all the progress I did on the previous drawing and this one. At least I'd saved the screenshots so I could redraw them from those. I managed to redraw Waylon, but I'm not sure how much better he is for it? I forgot his stubble... and I'm still trying to avoid drawing hands. I just realised now, I placed the ring on the wrong finger! DX It's supposed to be the left hand's ring finger. Oh well, will fix later. I moved on to the next character, tired of trying to redraw Waylon and the other character in the picture, Eddie Gluskin. I wanted to draw more of the guy in the second picture I posted, Miles Upshur: (On the right and the left side are refs, not actual drawings by me. They're from upsure.tumblr.com, from whom I'll ask for permission to use their character design for the PV. :) Oh my god that hair though. Miles Upshur's hair makes me very emotional. Not to mention that FACE. :< I'll be fixing him up soon. But anyway, that's what I accomplished in the three days before this, I think. Not sure how long I spent working on it. UPDATED 04-6-2015 Piano recital tomorrow... I'm nervous, so I needed some down time. Finally got back to working on this thing! Damn, I do love Eddie. But gee, I think it'll be worth it in the end! ================================= UPDATED 14-1-2016 YO, IT'S BEEN A WHILE. I noticed that I haven't been on the forums for a long while and that I haven't updated my games and a ton of other things--this log included. And I've been drawing a lot recently, so I thought I should finally brush up on this log! So I got a new tablet recently, which boosted my confidence a ton. I've been practicing quite a bit with it recently. Have some of my sketches and drawings, most of them from my new fangame with GermanyXItaly1000: Here's a concept I started drawing for a character (name is Zhao Huai, he's an excellent but shady businessman living in a dystopian wasteland) when I first got the tablet: I had no pen pressure at the time because I couldn't figure out how to install the tablet drivers. Eventually I went "BAH" and just gave up. BUT when I got the driver finally installed, I started drawing another concept, for a dude named Oliver Compton. From the same game as Zhao Huai, he's also a pretty shady guy who's basically the lord of his realm. Simple explanation for an actually complicated guy, but yeah. Taking a break from Hetalia fangame stuff, I went and doodled a Valentine for my teachers and friends. Who better to express their love than King George III from Hamilton? No, seriously. Listen to this guy's songs: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTbGUEoe8R8LutboJUpUtLx7y0VcqdTF0. He makes the American colonies trying to gain independence from Britain sound like a break up. It's amazing. So thanks to my obsession with Hamilton and just King George and his songs, I made a whole bunch of these and gave them to various friends and teachers on Friday. Each one had messages like: "You'll be back!" "Remember... I'm your man!" "I'll send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love!" "Remember... you belong to me!" ... and other variations. This is the only one I didn't give out because "Awesome! Wow!" doesn't have so much of a Valentine's Day feel as a "Hi, this is a mockery of your holiday" feel. I considered linearting this and then posting it as a "hey, feel free to use this valentine" thing but laziness won me out, as always. (the colouring is so ugly but this was like the 10th one I coloured by hand and I was just like "HA" no effort anymore) And also, I recently offered to make busts graphics for a game that a friend of mine is making. So I broke out my tablet, meaning to find a good way to lineart. Because I can't lineart--have you seen my earlier posts? I ended up finding a really nice brush and settings for it, anyway. And then I doodled Jason, a character from Germany's and my game, to get a hang of it. Then things just got out of control--I wanted to draw a full picture of him, then I wanted to ANIMATE him and this happened: If you can't tell, he's being strangled. ouo By Oliver, actually. Well, not strangled, Oliver's just being an asshole, grabbed his collar, and is probably about to wreck him by throwing him into a wall or something. Through a wall actually. Since Oliver's got the strength of a demon and doesn't know how to put that to good use. The gif is pretty sketchy, so I might make a finalised, more animated version soon. I kind of want to actually draw Jason being thrown through the wall. That would be pretty amazing, but I doubt I have the skills to draw all that. eue Anywho! Next update will probably be soon. Thanks for reading! ================================= UPDATED 15-05-2015 Started another PV/animated project based on a song called "Ai no Scenario" for my new game's characters. Have a GIF. I'm pretty proud that it didn't take me too long to sketch these. I did the guy with the parasol first to practice, which took about half an hour. The second guy (sitting on the ground) took only 20 min, and he looks much, much better. I'll be redoing the lineart on guy #1 soon and animating more of the project. (It stutters a few frames near the end bc my computer is hella laggy. :P It wouldn't play properly while I was recording the GIF.) ================================= I will be posting more of my progress soon! Until then!
  20. oh my god Heretic you are a blessing to this forum. Necropost but whatever I want to do this. As for me... I'm a mix between weeb stuff, game tracks, super old stuff, and then the occasional weird song that just comes out of nowhere. Here's a list, I'll try not to add too much but I'm a sucker for weird stuff uwu 1. Outer Science - IA (and I listen to tons of covers and other versions) 2. Magic Moments - Perry Como 3. All I Ask of You/The Point of No Return/The Final Lair - The Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber 4. I Want a Girl - American Quartet 5. Stairway to the Stars - Ella Fitzgerald 6. Lost Time Memory... and also Yobanashi Deceive - IA (KagePro *thumbs up*) 7. The Fragrance of Dark Coffee... and Turnabout Sisters - Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations (memoriessssssss) 8. Sugartime - McGuire Sisters 9. Erika - ... some german march thing? 10. Can't Take My Eyes Off You - Frankie Valli 11. Karma Chameleon... and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me - Boy George 12. Habanera - Carmen, by Bizet 13. Pepper Steak - Off (the battle theme from that one RPG game that trolled me 100000x times. sigh.)
  21. I take it it worked out for you? Awesome! Good luck with your game. ;)
  22. ^I agree with this totally. I would not want to walk through multiple maps of this. Far too bare and symmetrical. If you were to argue that your houses being symmetrical is fine, I'll let that go, but I generally like to see some variety in housing structure. It jars things up a little, so that not every map/area looks the same. But keep in mind gameplay, natural landmarks, etc. You want to take into consideration the visual aspects (I'm crazy about visuals, so I take this seriously), but there's a point where things get too much. And YES. Referencing off other maps, seeing what works and doesn't, is a good key to learning to map yourself. I did this a lot and still do occasionally when learning to map new areas. Reference off the good stuff and see what makes the maps look great and at the same time playable. ;)
  23. ummm you can easily create something 2D in Unity, if you wanted? It just takes more work. From what I heard, RPG Maker is pretty limited compared in what you could do in Unity, regardless of 2D, 3D, whichever suits your fancy. In comparison, far easier, yes. And Unity can be pretty damn good visually if you have someone who knows what they're doing working with you. Unity is good for the learning experience. :> And true, RPG Maker games can create a kind of atmosphere that can't be replicated easily (or at all?) in a 3D game. But they're not at all terrifying, just surprising at points. Ib and Mad Father I enjoyed purely for their story rather than scares. And woah have you seen what Unity users crank out nowadays. That Grass Simulator was ridiculous, no wonder Youtubers like Mark and Feliks don't get as much enjoyment out of those, considering what monstrosities are created. I think Pewdiepie plays those just for laughs now. (Although to be honest a lot of ridiculous 5 minute games are made in RPG Maker, too... it's just LPers play the quality ones that have actual merit to them.) But when something good is made with engines like Unity... it's damn satisfying to play. Just takes more work to put together, since you don't have everything laid out for you like in RPG Maker.
  24. Look at all the terms and tech lingo that I don't know D: Sorry for breaking the flow of conversation, I just came here to ask how to get into this kind of stuff ;u; Always wanted to build things (computers specifically). I was going to join the Robotics team at my school this year, but no luck there thanks to classes. TTuTT feel free to ignore me carry on
  25. that is quite the necropost XD Hmm, everything is agreeable, idc much about restating what everyone else has already said. Won't address that. As for marriage, it's making the relationship official. Rules of the old days, like no cheating if you're in marriage. Kind of sad that people did it regardless and still do now. Just don't get married if you're going to cheat, for God's sake, romp around when you're not married. Marriage is a permanent bond between you and your partner--since I'm a Catholic I view it as something very precious. The church has some rules about it that I'd like to abide to, were I ever to marry. Imo marrying someone means that they're the only one for you, and you both recognise it and that's why you're getting married. ... But if you're marrying just for benefits, that takes all the sentiment away, and it means nothing. :P
