  1. Yep, very few active members have a use for the homepage, but it's useful for new visitors. However, I have added it to the homepage. It's the exact same output, so hopefully you'll make use it :) The counter is the # of new content items within the last 24hrs.
  2. For Mine Clicker? :P Is that a popular Genre? If you think so, I'll add it. It's not necessary all about popularity, but also people looking to play games.
  3. Five new genre's have been added to the Games section. You can select a genre which will be displayed in the details section in the sidebar of games pages. The complete list of Genres are: RPG JRPG Platformer Arcade Shooter Adventure Puzzle Sports Strategy/Sim Other Feel free to suggest a genre to be added to the list. Just so you guys now, I will announce all games section changes (even small ones like this) in separate topics. My aim is to be more professional in the development of the games section, so developers who may rely on the games section are kept informed with changes that may impact their content.
  4. I'm also thankful for my girlfriend (it was our 5 year anniversary this month) and the good health of family and close friends.
  5. Welcome to GDU  I'm only ever working on stuff around this site. No time to develop games :(
  6. The first iteration of the games section didn't even have an admin section - you could change all your content directly on the front-end as the author. But it was too slow and a bit too clunky. Now, there is an admin section which automatically saves your entries each time you click away from the field you were editing. I've come across a few systems with this. And I hate it. I always look around for the save button and wonder - how the heck do I save it? I'm wondering if you guys agree. What I'd like to do is have a save button fixed the browser at the bottom (so it's always there). And when you want to update, you hit save. Added a poll :)
  7. Thanks for the feedback. I have already made the decision to keep it though, because I realized there is that dropdown bar and it's used to make status updates. I think at least 3 of you don't understand my first post. I am trying to add a feature, which I think is quite important (at least content authors would think so), not remove them. Please read the first post, because I don't want to waste time repeating things.
  8. A post by xTsukihime prompted me to clean up the homepage layout. At first I was going for a sort of facebook type activity feed, but I didn't limit the length of certain types of content, such as posts. A certain post by Kitsuki where she posted an entire script, for example, would make it very long. So I've made a grid, with a different style for each content type. The layout is much, much cleaner. For content like scripts, if you have a screenie, that'll come up in the header. Otherwise it'll revert to the colour denoted throughout the site for scripts: It's rather unfinished, but I plan to complete it over time. For example, I haven't set up tutorials, because you guys hardly ever post tutorials. I'll fix bugs as they happen. One significant thing I want to do is incorporate this on the board/forum index as well. Note that it's different to the recent activity module on the forum sidebar; that is actually new content AND all comments. So on the index, I plan to implement a tab system where the forums are shown by default; but you can click a page to load these recent activity blocks. So adding a tab somewhere above the first forum category:
  9. I can put that bar anywhere on the site, except I don't want to recreate the notifications. I tried to do it a few years ago and it was hard to get it working correctly. No, I'm ripping up everything and replacing it with something else.
  10. Hey xTsukihime, sorry I missed your post. I agree with you :P Imma cut it down, maybe even create a masonay style summary of new activity.
  11. How many of you use this? I'm thinking about removing it. I'll move the PM thingy to the top bar. I think the top bar covers everything. The only thing I can't do is recreate the notifications menu, because it's too difficult. I want to create a thing here that you can open up and see all your GDU content. So you click it and then tabs will appear: topics, posts, games, scripts, tuts, gallery imgs, etc. etc. But I don't want things to get too cluttered at the top. We've already got featured games, quotes, and this forum-only userbar.

late?? Damnn. Lol. I thought I was early because I'm ahead of you.

  15. Hmm that's not a bad idea. Instead of an overall bar, we could also show a breakdown. Although I'd make the categories more general. v1/2 were made for RPG Makers, so I think database and events are unusual to other engines. That's why in project cards you can change labels. So maybe Programming Level Design Music Graphics Storyline Possibly system design? Btw it's called a progress bar. :P This is a blue line
  16. You have a very enthusiastic personality. Meanwhile I'm here struggling to stay awake. Welcome to GDU

  18. ...what? Yeah, I agree. I am thinking about making a few pip designs.
  19. Hard? For me? It's not hard, but I'm saying it's not needed :) My desired fields are commercial and commercial property, mergers & acquisitions, intellectual property and technology. When people think of law they think of criminal and the courts. It's tough though. There's a lot of law grads here so competition is quite high. Getting a job in a law firm is difficult enough let alone practicing in your areas of interest. I'll be fine though. Very few lawyers have my combination of qualifications. I'm not yet sure whether I'll pursue law. I've done so much study and I feel like I'm passively observing my own life tick over... so we'll see. Maybe I'll spontaneously pack all my stuff in a bag and explore the world before I settle down.

I feel like that sometimes when my allergies get really bad in the summer and I start sneezing every few minutes. I may not be sick when that happens, but I definitely FEEL sick. It's horrible...

Dammmnnn.... I look tons better. But... isn't that a girl's hat?
  22. Hi all It is with some nostalgia I am announcing version 3 of the project cards generator. It will generate an image showing the progress of your game, save it on the server and allow you to use it in siggies, eg I just made this one Version 2 was released was released on 9th November 2010: http://www.gdunlimited.net/forums/topic/5874-project-cards-v2/ That means it's been more than 5 years since the last release. The last version was built in joomla and would have went down with that part of the site when I took it offline near the end of 2012. It looked a little like this (From wayback machine... and missing some images) The first theme is the first ever theme from version 1 which I managed to salvage from my laptop which contains old HDD backups. Actually I have files from 2003, but I have nothing left of version2 project cards since isaacsol's hosting of the site took us completely offline in 2013 for 2 whole weeks. Five years between versions... it makes me think how many times I have made these announcement topics so late at night (it's currently 1:30AM :) ). I know exactly what I was doing on 9 Nov 2010, actually. I had some massive exams, which I destroyed. Just say'in. I must have build v2 immediately after. Anyway, enough rambling. This thing was tricky to code. There's 3 main use cases: guests, members' new cards, members' editing cards. All of this done on a single page with a billion if-statements. The main feature of this version: saving your cards permanently. Members who generate project cards can edit them at any time. There's some other cool stuff. You'll see: http://www.gdunlimited.net/projectcards It might be a bit slow. On my dev server it loads lightning quick. I can decrease the quality of the preview which will make it quicker. Do you think it's needed? Also themes are 315 x 192px, post 'em here and I'll add them. Also suggest fonts.
  23. There was an error in the recent games section updates which meant that there was an error loading blog entries. No data was lost and the error is now restored. However, your blog page settings might be different. The only two settings are whether the blog tab is enabled, and the name of the page. Games' pages aren't in fact static, they're generated and stored uniquely for each game. Only some pages were effected, and the data that defines the blog tab was deleted for those games. For every one that was deleted, I added back on the default blog page settings, ie, a page named Blog which is enabled. Some of you will have disabled the blog tab, and some of you will have changed the name, and therefore some game page has unfortunately been slightly altered. Hope that makes sense. It's pretty simple, just a bit different because of how it is constructed.
  24. Ahhhhhhh it's his Blog. All this time I was checking the page and it was loading fine, coz I wasn't checking the blog x.x I'll look into it.
