Yeah, it's not too important depending on which you choose. For the internet, you are going to want .jpg or .gif files because they are low in file size. PNG's are small also and preserve transparency. I honestly don't know what .bmp's are for... they are huge in file size and i don't know why someone would purposely choose that extension to save their image. You should alter you scanner settings to scan the image as a png file. You also don't need a huge resolution unless you plan on colouring it in photoshop or something.

Welcome to RMXP Unlimited Jimmyly. That is quite an interesting introduction post. We are quite a unique forum, and we definitely don't "bash on newbies". If you like you can search through all our posts and try to find an example of it, I don't think you will find anything like that. Our mods are cool guys and easy to get along with. I hope you tell us what you think after you've spent enough time here.

Tiles, Priority and Movement Problems
Marked replied to CrimsonWolf's topic in General Game Development
This sort of thing can be quite fiddly, you sometimes have to play around with tiles and passibilities within the tilesets. Would it be possible for you to post a demo with that one map? -
If you don't like making switches, you don't like making games in RMXP. There's a reason why you can have 5000 of them.

You are using Autorun wrong. Compare the two explanations from the help file: Autorun Parallel Process If you want to move the player, for example in a cutscene, you should use parallel process. If you like I can show you an example of how to make a cutscene using events.

Thanks for the PM Wyzrd. That's correct. Your image is almost 2mb which make this topic really slow to load. You shouldn't save your images with that file extension, especially not for posting on forums. Try a .jpg or .png instead.

The "Call Script" command on the 3rd page of Event Commands is generally for accessing existing scripts in your Script Editor. For example, if you wanted to open up your items window by using an event, you would use the Call Script command and type the following: $scene = Scene_Item.new You should try it and see what I mean.

Update the Training Center...
Marked replied to fother0's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
You're right about that. Although there are actually a lot of people who know about RPG Maker XP and VX(RMXP has over a million downloads alone on download.com), the members coming to this forum are very new to the program. I just checked the traffic monitoring software we have and 79% of all users who come to this site are from the place where RPG Maker XP is downloaded. Meaning they are new to the program. To prove my point(or maybe not), how did you find this forum? -
Do you have the SDK script in your Script editor?
-
Just noticed that today, the new skin looks good.

Chief has not been here in over half a month, so it is unlikely he will fulfill your requests. You can find him at this forum however, http://rpgmakersforum.com/ I'm going to close this topic so members dont waste their time posting requests. If he wants it reopened, he can PM me or a mod.

Which is better depends on the users preferences. It is similar to the Eventing vs Scripting topic. Many users were voting for Eventing rather than Scripting. I thought that was crazy because the events were just functions of scripts. The possibilities of Scripting is far far superior than that of Eventing, however it is far far more difficult to do. It is similar between XP and VX. The first time you go to make a map in XP(Interior map for example) you make a huge empty room with a couple of things around the edges and clustered walls. When you go to play it, the player takes forever to cross the room. In VX it is much simpler and so more people are going to stick with it. If VX and XP were released at the same time, I think that more VX games would be made compared to XP. We are lazy, if we were going make games we would be learning C++ and making them in 3D. But we just want to make games with out all those complications and hours on small details. So communities like ours are more attracted to convenience However XP has the advantage of being out first so we've learned how to use the difficult program, and therefor we can do difficult things in XP which are simple in VX. So, which do you think new RPG Makers are going to go for? If we were going to compare the two, I would say that XP is scripting and VX is eventing. XP has more capability in producing a game but it is more difficult to achieve. VX is not up there with XP in what it can do, but it is more easier and so is the better option for some RPG Makers. By the way, I haven't used VX for more than 5 minutes, so my post may be slightly biased. EDIT: Just read the poll title, I prefer RMXP. Probably obvious from the above sentence though.

So long as our good friend isaacsol allows us to be hosted, I do not plan on closing it down. Even though I have completely put you off from making your resources exclusive to this forum and even being active here, I'm not saying you shouldn't. Single members' efforts have brought this from back from the dead on more than one occasion. Yeah thats coz your awesome.

Update the Training Center...
Marked replied to fother0's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
Like many things I try to create here at RMXP Unlimited, we are sort of going too big and aiming too high for where we are at. We have the resources and ability to do and create anything we want, we are just missing the most important component, active members. We made a big deal about the RMXP Training Center, and it started off not too bad. However, two months ago we hit a real slump and activity dropped by about 30%. If we follow the common trend, you will not be back here in about a weeks time. That is probably the average life expectancy of new members like yourself. Unfortunately. That will hopefully change though. There are members in the community(mostly staff) who are more than capable of being Teachers in the Training Center and have real ability to spread their knowledge. The problem is the quantity of active members. Why would they open a class to have no one really give it a go. To have something as big as a Training Center going we need to be at least 3 times bigger(at least...) to even get it going with some real productivity. I have left it open so members can view the old topics which may be useful to them. Which class in particular were you looking at taking part in? -
We appreciate your effort for helping to improve the forum with exclusive resources. However, after trying to run this forum for almost two years(and I say this often), we aren't about to get active very quickly. Take a look at this graph: This is our traffic from the 4th of August until yesterday, so about a month. There's no trend there, its not getting any better. These days I'm too busy and unmotivated to do any work on the forum or website so it's going to be pretty much the same. I've made topics in the staff forums we have, to discuss ways of increasing activity. And we've improved forums and categories in the downloads manager and gallery until we got them just the way we wanted over the two years. After this time, if members coming into the forum were going to make it more active, it would have happened by now. It feels like we're on life support. And just by me saying this all the staff members are going to become unmotivated and ask themselves what is the point? It is clear we need drastic change. Oh, you mentioned deleting inactive members. I don't like pruning members. That will delete members accounts that I want to keep(staff and members from the first forum). And if I ever want to send out a bulk email I have a couple thousand email addresses to send to. I also find it annoying that the member ID doesn't match the number of registered users. For example, we have 2,418 members, but the latest member has an ID of 2,649(so his account is the 2649th to register). But that's just personal preference.

You have to use a Custom Message Script, found here: http://rmxpunlimited.net/index.php/rmxp/rg...ge-systems.html Both those scripts have Demos you can download and see how to use face graphics in message boxes. If you need further help with that, please make a topic in the Support Forum.

The resource section is locked? How so? You can't access the Gallery? Also, I don't mind if users get resources and leave. For a struggling website at lease we are contributing something. That would be great, but how long do you plan on staying here? You just arrived. Original material is hard to have, especially here. We do not have any active artists or at least none that produce a decent quantity of resources. Contests in the past haven't worked out all that great due to lack of willing competitors. We can start and organize them easily enough, but we need members who are going to join in. Why not, I'd support the idea. I think however the main component(this being the reason the other project failed) is a good Manager how can keep the team together and gives it direction. A real leader. That idea is a nice one, but do you mean for this place? That would see me gone and most other members here I would think.

What is summoning monster? I interpreted that as what I did in the demo I made. Adding things to the menu page/screen would be done with scripts. Request one.. or browse our menu scripts: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/index.php/rmx...nu-systems.html To make world maps you just get a world-map tileset. Or you could use events with Charactersets like this: What kind of Chars you after? We got plenty. We have: Gallery: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/index....autocom=gallery Downloads Manager: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/index....odule=downloads I also posted a link in my last post which has some good resources. Locked interior doors....how would they be different to the demo? Just describe what you want exactly, and I'll tell you how to do it.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. Look at the event in the very top-left corner of the map. It has no graphic. I left a note in the event for you, but just notice how it's trigger is set to parallel process. You can use those faces if you like. They are free to use in your projects and you can find a complete set from this site: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...ai/english.html Dubealex's AMS script is used in that demo. Open up the script editor, I made it obvious that it is there. You need that script to use most of the message functions I've used in that demo. What I did forget was to add Dubealex's map with his examples of how to use the script. If you are going to use his script, you'd save time by copying that map to your project. You can find it in the link I posted above.

Ultimate RGSS Tutorials Collection

Sorry about that. I uploaded this back when we didn't have a downloads manager. New link: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/index....mp;showfile=111 -

I've made a demo project for you, with most of what you are needing help with in one map. The demo has the following: Locked Doors: Using the condition of an item to unlock it Locked Chest: Using a switch Conversations between characters using the features of the AMS(message script) Battle Eventing: An enemy attacks then the battle ends Project3.zip When you save the game a file is created in the Project directory. Delete the save file and the save slot will become empty again. Also, in this demo I have done the door and chest a certain way. There are many other ways you can do it, but you should be able to come up with your own method once you learn how all the stuff is done in the demo. Just look through the events and see how its done, you'll pick it up easily.
