It's gdunlimited.net now ;) That's a bit harsh. As obscure as it may seem to you, the guy is just trying to create a contest for the community. I admit its on the more optimistic side in terms of participation, particularly given the time of year and current activity on the site, etc. That said.. I think you just copied from your post that you made over a year ago? There's not much sense in sending submissions to an email address, we have a PM system here and a contest held on GDU should be managed through GDU. And what is the justification for non encrypted files? Enforcing rules?

Thanks Noob :) Mmm yeah a few things have changed. But right now, this is is like 10% of the planned functionality of GDU. All this is is a forum - like you and others have said - its just a new design right now. However, we're currently on the "GDU" system. For example, the 'forums' in the URL is a controller of the GDU system which loads IPB into it. Thus, no such "forums" directory exists, its called something else. The system enables me to make some really cool applications with full integration: the chat and member map are examples. The design is also going to change to something with more personality. Thats the plans anyway :)

Well nothing is off the table. I'm not really thinking about it at the moment but inevitably we're going to expand on the enterbrain series. The aim is to provide a site for all game developers and mobile comes into that, but there doesn't seem to be too much interest from the current pool of members. Furthermore, to play mobile games you need a specific type of phone, whereas to play any RM game you just need a PC, which most of us are going to have. As everyone here has said, the mobile games are more so "cheap entertainment" than what our RM games are meant to be. Perhaps mobile gaming should be left to those trying to make a quick buck. No one thus far has expressed a desire to actually create a game for mobile (except that one members name I can't spell who made a topic the other day, but even he wanted a full RM game). But I will say that just because the current members don't show an interest doesn't mean we won't attempt to diversify into currently unpopular areas, because the whole point of diversification is to enter different markets (of people). That said, the site is a place for all game development and when I say diversify I simply mean what engines we are going to have to expressly support (and by support I mean things have forums for that engine, etc.) some engines. Does that make sense?

The reason I included that middle option is because the question asks if you have any interest whatsoever. It's there to recognize the fact that "yes" includes even negligible amounts of interest, in case its exclusion would lead the "not really" people to check "No".

I'm not sure. I'm guessing you don't have access to your files directly? I assumed you're using some free host and the ability to edit these things is bound to be around somewhere, depends on the service you're using. If you can do Java and C++ then the html is going to be nothing for you. Particularly this stuff, its not programming, its just a bunch of tags. For what I've told you, you merely need to change values between quotes, there's no programming involved.

Same :/ Even as a student I'm like this, but I've been employed for more than a year. In my spare time, since its so scarce, I would much prefer to do something productive then sit around and just stare at a screen for "entertainment" (as in watching youtube). I actually pity the people I know who go to work and in their spare time they just watch tv, or watch episodes of shows on youtube. That's not a life, it'll all be over soon, could be over tomorrow if you're unlucky so off your ass... Yeah. Ok i admit it, it annoys me. Have we every really cared who plays our games? I'm not convinced it's a fad. They've gotten more popular with little signs slowing down, right? There's no doubting the market is huge whether or not young or old.

Did you mix the game pages with profile pages? I only mentioned the game pages are going to be highly customizable, and that profiles were going to be orientated more toward game development than the generic forum profiles that exist now. I know you're a fan of having profile pages being customized, but I'm a bit more cautious. When I say customize, I'm talking about changing the background to what you like, having a music player (a pet hate of mine for websites). Of course the actual content will all be customizable.

The market for these games is massive... do you know how many millions angry birds has made? I also think its a different market from console games and different types of games. When you say mobile games, no one ever thinks to compare it to a console game. Furthermore, think about what it takes for a console game to succeed and a mobile game to succeed. A single developer can create a game that becomes very popular and could generate a decent amount of money (you can sell a free game with google ads on the play store for android), whereas console games generally have to be made by a team of developers will a big budget.

Thanks Shin, I appreciate that. So far I can definitely see where things need to be improved. Right now I think the poll will suffice in terms of feedback because right now my hands are tied and I can't do any work, but I'm well aware of things that need improving and in particular the bugs that need fixing. The poll shows a surprising story about how many bugs have been encountered by you guys :) It would be rather a waste of time if the project section was a mere textbox :P What you say is definitely in the plan but its a balancing act/tradeoff between aiding the creation of really good project pages and making those project pages as customizable as possible to meet the needs of game makers. There are things in common in every project page (btw I use the term project page, but this is misleading. It's more of a site for your game inside of this site): such as screenshots, characters, plot, and a demo of course. The project section should incorporate functions to handle of this data and display far better than an average user could using bbcode, and far quicker than an person could if he started his own site. I secretly want to stop all these people going off of forums and making their own sites on free hosts for their projects by providing a much superior service. Furthermore the projects section will be a fundamental part of the site. Creating a project will enable a bunch of further options around the site: options in your profiles relating to your project (or a project you're a team member of), the recruitment section will require you select a project from a list of your own projects, the ability to promote your project throughout the site, etc.

It's interesting how people think they have to manually submit their site to google :P Surely that's counterproductive. The amount of resources that google has you can be rest assured that their indexing system is damn complicated, and very very smart. Lets look over some of the essentials that you need to cover, using your website http://dayofthedarkness.webs.com/ First lets look at the title tag and the meta description tag. I'll show you what's on your website, and show you using mine where these entries show up on google: So first up, the title tag = "Day of Darkness" and this is what will show up on google when you homepage is listed. It's the name of your game, which isn't incredibly popular, so you should add in some more keywords, but don't go over the top with keywords: remember that humans read this and it has to make sense. Something like "Day of Darkness - Free RPG Maker XP game", or something (thats probably not the best suggestion :P) Similarly with your meta description tag (im sure there is somewhere to configure this on your free host) it needs be filled out, it needs to be 150 characters or less, needs to contain keywords, a decent description and be enticing some people are going to click it. Next up is your h1 tag, which currently looks like this on yourpage: <h1 class="w-header-text-container"> <div class="w-header-text w-header-title "> Day of the Darkness </div> </h1> I'm guessing this is the same as your page's name in terms of configuring this. Same thing applies to the title - keywords and descriptive. Think about how people would find your page, what would they type in google? You hear people saying that you need to submit your site to google. Do this my making an account at web master tools (google this), but you need to be able to validate your website either by uploading a file or adding a line of code to the source code. If you can't do that on your host then forget about it. But if you can, make the account and then submit a sitemap. You may find this useful to create your sitemaps: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ To see where you can improve on other areas of SEO, use this tool: http://analyzer.pearanalytics.com/ (not sure if it works for subdomains) You can also see what pages google has indexed by using the "site:" operator: site:http://dayofthedarkness.webs.com/ Looks like your site has nothing right now.
