  1. Fair assessment. Yeah the arcade.. I've still got all the data in terms of highscores and things and I tried getting it to work on GDU but ran into some really troublesome errors that relate to upgrading the arcade. Their script seems deficient so I tried uninstalling it, etc. but its a good afternoon's work so I'll get that up within 50 days or so.
  2. Thanks for posting, all pretty positive there :) Feel free to comment on the 2nd paragraph if you like. Yeah there is certainly a long way to go, just to reach our ambitions. There's not too much uniqueness about the site right now and it really bugs me that I haven't had the opportunity to write my own sections.
  3. Hi guys, Since GDU has been live for coming up 3 weeks now, I wanted to do a little survey for future reference about the state of things so far. Please vote in the poll above or comment below, Thanks! :) Also, you may find it interesting to compare to a previous survey 2 years ago: http://www.gdunlimit...pu-survey-2010/ Note in that topic my most obvious foreshadowing. I guess this really was the start of GDU:
  4. At home today and I see someone brought home a pamphlet from a local business. I thought the logo looked familiar, I designed it for their website a few months ago :P

  5. Finally you decide to start posting :P
  6. It may not have been clear before, because its hidden away in the forum description, but you are supposed to create a project thread first and then link to it in your recruitment thread. I have made the rule stand out more so its harder to miss:
  7. Did way too much work on gdu today than I should have... :S *studies*

Many things that you'll probably never notice... :D

  8. Nope, that's not it. I didn't link it all, its purely default there. There's a variable gone astray somewhere and I can't afford the time it will potentially take to fix. It may be simple, if may take hours to find out why.
  9. Yeah, the preview post button is broken right now which was reported earlier. I really should hide it until I have time to look into it, but I'm worried I'll just forget about entirely..
  10. Lol this reminds me of a kid in a play ground shouting at the teacher that another kid did something wrong. Actually that happened to me once, it was annoying. Could you just use the report button please? This isn't a necro-post. This is a post that was made some time after the date of the last post - this by itself is not a necro-post. These things have to be taken in context - 1. the past replies spread over a very long period of time, 2. bigace is still active here (though on a break coz of school, nonetheless he will be emailed regarding the reply), 3. Saltome's post is useful, he's offering help, and most important 4. this is a project recruitment thread. This topic is now unlocked and awaits Bigace's reply :)
  11. Oh :/ It's a shame. I haven't got hours to spend on doing stuff like this, I already spent hours converting these tutorials into HTML in the first instance. Though that was some 4 years ago now when time a commodity. What happened was, while preparing to release GDU we had a bunch of articles that were written in HTML on the old website. I simply copied that HTML and pasted them into these topics and enabled html. To convert all of them into BBCode would just take too long...
  12. Interesting discussion :) Right now what I have in mind for a tutorials section isn't exactly a teaching facility with interactions. It's more of a system to aid authors in creating their tutorials (anyone remember the tutorial system I released ages ago that I made from joomla?), to organize groups of tutorials together to allow users to work their way through (you can see the differences here from posted topics into a forum) and also to promote or aid authors in creating practical tasks, although I guess at the end of the day that's up to the author. But its easy to have an option when creating a tutorial to "Insert Assignment"; you set the task, then you have the completed task in a spoiler for the member to compare (thats just an idea off the top of my head). The idea for it is a static system, aside from comments, but its far more organized and easy to find what you're looking for and whether that tutorial is suitable for your current skill level. The main objective is to make it as easy possible for members to develop their skills by making it very easy for tutorial authors to organize their tutorials, and for members to find those tutorials easily at any time (as opposed to a great tutorial sinking further and further down a forum).
  13. Welcome back! It's nearly been 2 years since you registered. May I recommend increasing your posts per day stat? ;)
  14. Agreed. I once attempted to learn PHP via tutorials and I stopped and got bored even before learning about arrays. A few years later I waned to implement some unique functionality to the site, and that got the ball rolling for me and to tell you the truth I have read very few tutorials. A few, but its obvious that the real knowledge comes from doing it rather than reading about it. I imagine tutorials like opening a door to a room with several other doors, and to unlock those doors you have to apply the knowledge you learnt from the first door. Each door unlocked is a new piece of knowledge. But you have given me an idea for a tutorials system which I had planned for a while. I really want to give authors a lot of control over their tutorials. Submitting a topic is fine, but submitting a topic in a forum for a timeless article is just in efficient. I think there are ways we can promote far better learning systems, including as you mentioned, some sort of task that ought to be completed after reading a tutorial.
  15. Just in case, the author is active over at Creation Asylum and you may get more luck over there with your issue. The link to the very topic is in the first post. It also appears this demo is now out of date. That's just in case no one over here knows much about the script.
  16. It's not coming back like we had it. Scripting classes do not work, not at least in the circumstances we had them. There's almost no difference from having tutorials posted. What is the difference from the Leon, the scripting teacher, telling you to read through the lessons and you actually reading through the lessons yourself? I was never really a fan of the rmxp training center, I feel like it never worked properly. Perhaps the commitment was just too much for some of the teachers, but admittedly there was some successful classes but short periods of time. I am interested in setting up some kind of tutoring system where experts can teach, perhaps one on one. There are more efficient ways to develop members' skills than static tutorials, but first the community must develop the means to sustain such a feature.
  17. You can see what's in the RTP by going to C:/Program Files/Common Files/Enterbrain/RGSS, on windows.
  18. 18 days left to finish reading textbooks, 26 days until my first exam, 42 days until my last exam. In between, an inhumane amount of information to force into my brain

You will make it no problem. Try to find a study group. I got in a study group with 5 others and i helped me greatly.

  19. Haha well the advertising is pretty slow and takes years to accumulate right now. In terms of pageviews, we're a bit slow, but GDU is in its infancy. Since ads were put on the website, only 1/6th of the potential revenue was achieved, because only guests can see them and only in specific places. The revenue is worth it, we've got $136USD right now, which means we could have generated $800USD+ had ads been everywhere, but I'm not sure I want to give up the integrity of the site for just that. It would be great to reinvest money back into the site. Hire a pro SEO, buy CDN services, prizes for contests, etc. Hopefully we will have the means to do that in the future :)
  20. How about a quarter of the all the profits? Approximately 2.5 cents per day? I think I should do it coz you have to hide the topics that have broken demo's, rename all the unrelated titles and move them into the correct forum (which should only rmxp tutorials). Also, for example, Leon's scripting tutorials would preferably be linked to each other and each starting with "Leon's Scripting Lessons: Arrays" or something like that. I'm weird like that. But when you think about it, that could help a lot guests who never tell us how useful that is.
  21. The global mods have the powers to do so, yes. And yeah Wyzrd is the only active global mod right now, but I'm not gona ask him to do that until I start paying him :P
  22. I really ought to delete the forums altogether and move the tutorials into the tutorials forums... that system is ancient now. Sadly I don't have time to go through and move all the topics, alter their topics to reflect their content, etc. :/ Things are a bit of a mess here right now to be honest... I only have time for the major stuff. Thanks for reporting! This is definitely on my todo list.
  23. Megaupload will back in bout a month. Well old Kim Dotcom has been in the news a lot in NZ over the last week, duno if you guys would have heard about it. Well anyway, the nz government still has corruptly, immorally and unjustly seized a lot of his assets but he's still releasing a new website. Though obviously it won't be back with the same files or the same URL so this post is probably irrelevant :D Kim Dotcom for PM.
  24. Not a bad start. I think I should move the topic to web development or you will want to post another topic when there's more info on your game or perhaps a demo.
