  1. I just wanted to stop by and say I'm back. Before I say that however, I owe everyone here a huge apology for my actions earlier this year. It was selfish, arrogant, and just plain rude of me to just leave altogether the way I did. So I'm sorry. Now that I have gotten that out of the way. I'm back, I won't be very active in the scripting scene or game making really as I just don't have the time right now. I will be hanging around the chat room whenever I'm on and I try to help some scripting issues where ever I can.
  2. I'll be in chat over the next few days. Feel free to stop by.

  3. This has been a long time coming. This wasn't a snapshot decision I made last night. I do feel that I owe you, the community; that has nurtured me, dealt with my selfish behavior, and allowed me to stay here and be myself, an explanation. I have a few reasons for my decision. First, I see very differently on game development than a lot of the people here. I feel that I won't be able to grow any further unless I go and branch out else where. I want to try different things I've been hearing about. I actually want to do real coding and not just scripting. I recently came across an old computer article labeled "How to be a hacker," by Eric S. Raymond. Regardless of the tittle, it reminded me why I wanted to get into coding in the first place, and that I had been distracted by irrelevant things. This is directly related to my second reason. I feel that the RPGM software is too limited for what I wish to do. For me, I have things I dislike about a lot of the software I have been using for the past few years to do my hobby development. Most people here will agree with me when I say that they are not the best products for their price or for what they can do. I feel that there is an entire world out there to be discovered as far as gaming, not to even mention computing. My third reason is the switch from GDU to RMU. For the past 4-5 months I haven't touched any Enterbrain software. I have been working directly from a command prompt into my linux box dealing directly with code through a word editor. So I was very happy when GDU was announced, I thought, "Hey, Mark has some really lofty goals for what he wants from this community! Great!" I was incredibly excited for the change. After however long GDU was up, I came back to find RMU. I felt like Mark called it quits too early. That he had waved the white flag before the battle had even been fought. I honestly feel like he copped out because of less traffic. Mark has given his reasons and I respect him for that. I mean no disrespect to him. This site is his baby. A product of his hard work. No one likes to see something that they put so much effort into not get the attention it deserves. It hurts. I feel that I can't stay here and be able to do things they way I want to. I have mad respect to the Makers of Crawl, and the name of that user created content island dungeon crawl game that I can never remember. You guys have some serious guts to advertise your game on a site that is not tailored to your game at all. It also has paid off for you guys, so the risk was worth it. The guts it took to take that step are not something I have. I will be sorry to leave this site. You guys are a great bunch. Your fun, spirited, and an occasional few are intelligent and wise. I will hold you guys and everything you've taught me in the light in my travels. Foxkit
  4. Well, as far as people playing SC II goes, I know for certain that including myself there are three other people who play. Dragon, and Arkbennet both play. What region are you playing on? If your playing in europe than we probably won't be able to play until HOTS drops.

    "End of File reached"

Kellessdee already gave me a way to do that, I just wanted to do it this way for kicks ^^. I wasn't expecting it to take me on this big wrabbit hunt through I/O land :3

    "End of File reached"

Edit: I hadn't thought of that D: ... I was only hoping for one save file. Though having multiple saves IS an issue, and I can see exactly why .. :/ So your proposing something similar to this... When the new game loads marshal data, just have it load the empty array. Any new unique weapons will be stored in that empty array. when the game is saved, append the weapons data onto the save. when the game is loaded, store the weapon data into the now empty array.

    "End of File reached"

In the long run it's to be intended as a weapon customization system :3 As for the info about Data_weapons being a class, That is exactly what I was looking for :3 ty ty if you look in the first link you can see exactly what I've edited, I just copy the base weapon, and give it an atribute based on the actor's id, then change it's name and put it in the new array of weapons. It should be saved when the player saves, so that way all the information is just simply stored once. So question, is the short answer "I need to create an empty array to store everything in?"

    "End of File reached"

My issue is more like trying to load something that doesn't exist. I have no idea how the data is stored in Data_Weapons because it's all in gibberish :/ At the beginning of the game, there should be no weapons stored in Data_b_weapons.rxdata does that mean that I should be storing the weapons when the game saves? And only loading them if the file exists? I'll get the interpreter and open up the files if I have too :/ I just didn't want to. Also would just like to point out that in rpgmaker xp, $data_actors = load_data("Data/Actors.rxdata") Is functionally the same as: File.open(filename, "rb" { |f| obj = Marshal.load(f) } and ditto for the save data. Here, better question. Can I just save the array of $data_b_weapons straight to a file such as Data/bweapons.rxdata, and then be able to load them on startup?

    "End of File reached"

It's my own approach to equipment bonding. IE, when a character equips an item, only that character will be able to equip that item from that moment on. I do this by copying the item, and adding it to a new data file. I'm looking for a way to make that error go away, I need to know what to put into the file to make it not spit out that error.

    "End of File reached"

http://pastebin.com/C9PVdaiY http://pastebin.com/zqB6FCzj Hello, new scripting question. I'm posting this script, to show you what I'm doing that needs a new data file. I understand that it would probably be easier to just add onto $data_weapons after the 1000th object, but I would like to work with this. So first, I write the scripts, giving the basic groundwork for the weapon to bond to characters. I test the game, I get "file not found". Derp moment as I didn't create the file. So I go and create the file with notepad, leaving the file empty. This leads me to "End of File reached" whenever I run the game.... The error explains its self, but I need suggestions on how to get around this. The file really should only get entries whenever a weapon is bonded to a character. I'm "assuming" that the file is missing the necessary support to add in those objects because it's empty. It's like trying to cram books into a non existing bookcase. Or it could be because there is just nothing there.
  12. The risk of having to re-purchase your liscense has always been around, computer gamers have always had to deal with this if the game included online play. I think it will steal their thunder yes... but I believe this is a good thing, look at how hard it is for an indie developer to get noticed and started. Almost all of the highly known indie games that I've played at least, had their start on something other than consoles. Minecraft, Limbo, Amnesia, FTL, Terraria, Lone Survivor. Heck, even DayZ got started out of the market for consoles. If every person who owns an Ouya can develop for it for free. (They already have a dev kit out for those who want to look at it.) It's not much more different than developing something for the IOS, or the Android, except you can add in controller compatability. There was a recent article on I believe either Rock, Paper, Shotgun, or PCGamer that stated that the console version of Battlefield 3 was being held back in patches because of the console checklists. To try and keep everything fair for the players, the computer version was also held back to keep in line with the console version. Also, when the dev kit is free, your only having to worry about paying someone to port the code over to another console instead doing that as WELL as buying a SDK from the manufacturers. Used games are a different issue entirely, unless we really start talking about high graphics games and why they generally are bad. I think it would be more like using a Steam account, or a google apps account or a Apple ID. Steam I know has a VERY good reputation for being honest with their customers and trying to help people remember their account information. They are also very good on the security front. Also, I believe your concerns for loosing an account are valid, but I think the Pro's of using Digital over hard copies is much more vast. The more money you sink into a digital distribution service, the more likely you are to make an effort to remember your password unless you just don't care about how you spend your money. People like to see an investment protected, so they will generally takes steps to do so. I would also like to point out, there is still the chance of loosing your hard copies as well. This is comming from a person who has lost 2 pokemon games, and 2 blizzard games because of moving.
  13. Who knows? It might because more and more people are drifting away from developing for the TV. Lots and lots of indie developers are getting started in the IOS, android, and computer scenes now because it's cheaper, easier, and far less of a hassle to release on these systems. Since the Ouya comes with it's own development kit, It will really lower the bar for entry into the development market. How much is the running cost of Unity Pro, Source SDK, Unreal Engine 3, Frostbite, ect ect anyways if you include what it would cost to get Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft to allow it on their system? If it's cheaper than $99, I will put my foot in my mouth and eat it right here and now... so to speak.
  14. So for starters, everyone who doesn't know about the Ouya, here's a link, go check it out. Link: http://www.ouya.tv/blog/ For everyone else that has been keeping up to date with the vidja game biz. What are your thoughts on this? To make things simple first, assume that this isn't just some big scam where someone walked away with 8.1 or .5 million from a kickstarter. Do you think this is good for the video game industry? What faults can you see with a business model like this? I'm looking for general feedback. That does include if you think it's a scam. I'm not some diehard fan of this, I'm just looking to see what everyone here thinks about it.

  17. I'm kinda with Rage on this, I don't watch enough anime to have a top five. I do read a lot of manga though :) 1. Breaker and Breaker: New Waves (just go read it. There is no anime of it, and it probably will never have one.) 2. Psyren (This one really dragged me in, I feel like it ended too soon, but also felt like it ended at the right time.) 3. Bloody Monday (It's pretty much Deathnote for hackers :D) 4. Kuroko no Basket 5. Baby Step

  19. Foreword Light streamed into a large room, slowly along the floor as time passed. The illuminated room was sparse in furniture for being so spaciouse. It cointained a small kitchen, complete with a microwave, toaster, electric oven and stove, and a sink in the corner farthest from the door. In the corner adjacent to it across from the door was a small room sectioned off with thick black curtains to offer some privacy. In between the kitchen and curtained room was a Large table with multiple computer monitors of top with three large computer towers below. In from of the desk was a single chair, suggesting that only one person lived here. Next to the door were three larger tables with multiple computer towers on top, their guts exposed and strewn about in variouse degrees of dissarray. Directly behind the curtained room was a small bathroom, with a simple toilet, and shower. A small groan emmitted from the bedroom. Betraying the presesnce of someone just waking up. A young man, for his small stuble of unshaved beared betrayed his age, emerged from behind the chick curtains of what could only be a bedroom. His dark skin implied that he spent a lot of time outside, yet his shirtless body had no tan lines. He had thick, straight balck hair that lightly lined his face and made his piercing, intelligent, green eyes seem like a small colletion of emeralds in light. He yawned, stretching his arms up towards the sky. His back made a series of snaps and pops as it realigned. satisfied, he made his way over to the kichen and opened the fridge. He pulled tomatoes, salad greens, cucumber, and cheese from it's bowels and a grabbed a bowl from overhead. He put the salad greens into the bowl, chopped the cucumber, tomatoes, and chess into thin pieces and mixed them into the bowl. After grabbing a fork, the man sat down at the row of computers, He shook the mouse after taking a bite from the salad. The monitors lit up, displaying a mountain of information. The mand deflty moved the mouse and positioned a few widows on the screen to see what was underneath them. He clicked on something, bringing up a wall of text that he quickly skimmed through, his mouth wording an occasional word or two. He took another bite of the salad seeming to sink into his own thoughts as he chewed. A buzzer intterupted his mussings. He up looked up at the top left monitor. A young man in a police unifrom was waiting at the small door. The man at the computers gimaced, obviously not happy at the sight of the cop. He stood up and went to the bedroom and came back out wearing a pair of Jeans. He stopped at the shower, turned on the faucet, and quickly dunked his head in and out o the running water. Grabbing the nearby towel he quickly dried some of his hair and then proceded out the door and downstiars.
