well that depends entirely on the party switcher. What one are you using, maybe there is a quick add-on you could have to do that?

Yeah the site looks really nice, now it's just to get each section working like the VXA section. Keep up the good work Marked, i know how daunting the task can be but you're doing a great job :)

Yeah Diagostimo is right and we've all been there. It's one of the reasons people use multiple tile sets in their games. Also a mark of experience is to make sure right off the bat that your tile sets have no holes. You'll notice that from tile sets you download that people tend to use every inch of available space. It takes time to learn these things.

This was back in 2000-2001 when most shopping carts were crap and every one wanted their own version of what was popular but still be called original. It was really a pain in the ass, worst of all the companies I made them for soon after switched to a popular off the shelf model from another company mostly cause it was the in thing. Their excuse to me was that people were much more used to using the popular one and they wanted to meet demand. Which essentially cost me my job. Enough about my bad job experiences lol, I like the look and I am looking forward to what you'll bring about. I totally understand about database transferal. If you're making the site script from scratch it's a little easier to use your current database, but i know it's still not simple to integrate. good luck

Does RMU/GDU Have any Pixal Artists
dolarmak replied to Noob Saibot's topic in General Game Development
I can do pixel art too, but i've been so busy with my current projects I don't think i'd be able to help anyone. -
Welcome to the site, i can understand your confusion and will try to shed a bit of light on it. GDU (Game Dev Unlimited) was the old name for the site (you can see in the URL) where Marked the owner tried to branch out and include all facets of game making. Unfortunately we didn't have many people experienced at anything other than RPG Maker. Eventually we saw a drop in visits, so Marked made a decision to focus on RPG Maker instead. Some people took it worse than others, I myself was one who was all for broadening the site, but i understand why he did it and if the day comes where we have more people who can use other programs I'm sure he'd add forums for support. In the mean time, enjoy your stay. Hope to see your game ideas flourish.

I enjoyed creating stuff too. I built several shopping carts from scratch cause that was what the company wanted, but in the end i was screwed over in terms of payments, job opportunities and advancements with the companies. It left me very discouraged. You've definitely got a knack for it so keep up the good work. I just saw the new VXA script, tutorial and resource buttons you made, they look nice. Will you be doing that with the other 2 Rpg Maker sections?

I know exactly what you mean. At least you're in the positive revenue stream, I've always lost money when it came to websites, even when designing them for companies. I've gotten screwed over so many times it's left me never wanting to make a website again if i can help it.
-
Yeah i suppose it depends entirely on what you want it to do. if thats that case your way would be beneficial.
-
This is an old problem, Marked has been aware of it for some time. He'll get to it when he has time, he's been working hard on other parts of the site.
-
I think it's a good idea, even if it's only to recognize those who've won motm. If we have other contests it would be cool to give them an award every one could see

I get the fact that you want to expand your knowledge, try new things and broaden your horizons, but that shouldn't mean you just stop going to the forums here. Sure I know most of us use RPGM, and it's not what you're interested in, but it's a shame when you drop friends simply because you're growing out of RpgM. I'm sure the community could help you in other ways and that you'd still be welcome. Good luck with your learning. Hope you find what you're looking for and succeed in your endeavors.

Okay, i get how you've decided to go. Let me know how that turns out. i'll check the new one in a bit. I would also like to suggest that maybe instead of a pre menu, maybe having different buttons activate the different functions? Z = teleport option (with a confirmation yes or no) , X = Close Map, C = Display text info

This topic is entirely poorly done. What you're asking for is so vague there isn't much help any one can do. If you want to add a summoning system that is available, but make sure it's what you want. Get the details of your game ready before asking what is out there. If you need idea's look at the script section or google stuff. also based on what you're asking for it seems like you really haven't looked into the engine much at all. I hate to call out noob on you but there comes a point where if you had at least looked at what features are available with the engine itself.
-
thats cool, let me know when you're ready for more testing, I'd be happy to help.

Okay diagostimo, i did some further testing and found your compiler worked fine, yeah big text blocks do lag a bit but to be perfectly honest why would you put such a huge chunk of text for something like this? I think the majority of people will only have 1-2 lines of text so i don't foresee any problems. I'm just curious but were you planning on adding anything under the Legend, cause your Window_Location_Text comes up a bit short of the side? I edited that to give it 16 pixels on either side by changing the width from 456 to 608, I centered the City Name text and i find it looks much better. I'm happy to hear you're looking to add a teleport feature, and i think the option of fading windows is pretty awesome too. I'd also like to suggest a feature you may want to add, having locations enabled/disabled on an active switch. I know that in my game it would be useful especially if you add a teleport option. That way you can force close locations the player hasn't been to yet or that are closed due to story reasons. I'm excited about this script diagostimo :)

I'm kinda excited about this script diagostimo, I've been trying to decide if I want to make a traditional world map where you walk around or use one like this instead. I'll defiantly test this for you. I can already say tho that It would be useful to add the ability to teleport. If I were you I would try to add both an item/skill teleport method, but also make a method so that you don't need a skill to teleport, so you can use this script as your main world map basically. ------------ EDIT: Okay I like your script, it's pretty easy to use. I tweeked it a bit and found that I much preferred a 16x16 tile over a 32x32. I would suggest making it a little easier to use by having a preset, so that you can just input type 1 for 32x32 and type 2 for 16x16 and a custom type where you add your own digit. I've seen that done in other scripts so it shouldn't be too hard for you to set it to variables instead of static numbers. Also having the ability to use this as a teleport system would be great.

It would be nice if we could support Unity or UDE, but it is obvious that we'll never get rid of RM support. If you're into that I'd talk with Rage Mage, he actually knows a bit about it. I never expected this place to fully support all development tools, but like i said before it would be nice if we had more members who did use other engines so those who only use RM would feel comfortable asking about and learning new ones.

welcome to the forums! if you need some help or advice just let us know, we have a wealth of knowledge to give out :D

Like i said before, I preferred the mission of GDU trying to support all Game making platforms. To me that was a big sell, but I also understand that we didn't really have any one specialized in anything except RPGMaker and maybe RageMage with Python. So I understand the change. As for the Idea that 1 click is better than 3 to get where you want to go I totally agree. I think it was a wise change to the main page of the forum to set it up the new way. Keep up the good work Marked, hope things will pick up soon so people can see how much hard work you're putting into getting this made.

the script worked wonders for me, I also used his Custom Title maker script, it lets you do animated titles like most games have, easy to use and pretty awesome.

oh sorry, i thought you meant you just saw that article and thought it was new,

Demon City: Open RP
dolarmak posted a topic in Role Playing, Interactive Story Telling & Forum Games
The sun slowly fell from the sky as dusk approached, the light of day faded as the darkness descended. The city streets were usually busy at this hour but an unusual summer storm crept in and all the street vendors left early to avoid getting their merchandise wet. Quickly the hour turned to one of nefarious deeds and seedy transactions when it started to rain. Making her way through the alley ways like she always did after class, a young woman turned a corner to see several thugs in her way. These brutes didn't usually come out so early but today was dark and wet, cops were busy avoiding getting drenched and suddenly school girls were open to play. A dark man dressed in shabby clothing stepped up behind the started girl, effectively blocking her path. His grin was marked by many missing teeth and his eyes were filled with terrifying deeds. Without pause the leader of the gang moved with a shifting sway in his walk up to the girl and bent down to sniff her hair. "Whats a pretty little thing like you doing in a place like this?" his voice sounded like that of a snake's hiss. She frowned, pulling away because his breath smelt terrible and repulsed her. His friends chuckled but their leader was less than impressed. Grabbing her arm he pulled her to the ground with a whip like snap of his wrist. "Did I say you could turn away bitch? I guess we'll just have to have a little fun now won't we?" He gestured to his friends and they all grinned menacingly. Never speaking a word the girl knew what fate was to fall on her. It wasn't the first time this had happened, not with these goons but others and she knew now how yelling for help was more likely to get her into bigger trouble. But the moment never came, instead a powerfully loud gun shot went off and the gang leaders head whipped back hitting the pavement with a sickening crack. The other scrambled to find the source, some even pulled weapons of their own but were all met with the same loud gun shot and sickening noises as their bodies hit the ground. Blood covered the walls and ground of the alley and the girl was painted with spatter marks. She turned to find the shooter at the end of the alley, his dark trench coat bellowing, his cowboy hat soaked and dripping around his face, his gun and cigar both smoking. "You should leave." his voice was rough by smoke and age, and his words were commanding. As quickly as she could she grabbed her bag and fled the alley, turning quickly to see the man one last time before she turned the corner, uncertain if she would ever thank the man who just saved her life. Stepping away from the mess the man went to leave but stopped before he reached the end of the alley, looking back and seeing the leader of the gang get up. "You should've stayed down." the gun man said knowing no one was really there to hear the words. The gang leader grinned with large fangs as blood dripped down his forehead where the bullet hole was. He hissed a terrifying noise as his head jumped from his body slithering through the air like a snake through water towards the gun man but before it got halfway and white glow came from the pistol as it fired a bullet of light through the same point he hit before. The head exploded, viscera hit the walls on either side and brain matter covered the floor with pink ooze. The gun name holstered his gun examining the scene and shook his head. "They never stay down." and with the final word, he turned and walked away. ---------------------------- This is an open RP, anyone can join. Make your character and hop on in. Setting is a Modern day city with demons populating the seedy parts. Character The Gun Man An old demon slayer with magical pistols (Smith and Wesson Model 29)
