Errors and Ideas for GDU
Ardaceus replied to Ardaceus's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
So I'm just going to go through each of these. Problems 1. So I guess that's a no. 2. It's just there and nobody is going to use it, so just leave it. 3. Pointless Arcade will always be pointless. 4. (I made a tutorial on VX Ace, but the announcement that I made a tutorial didn't appear in the latest banner). I think that should be fixed to show up at the moment you approve of it, not when it was first created 2 weeks ago. 5. Mass delete would be a cool thing in the manager, because people who use it usually have not much space in there, would make making topics easier. 6. I don't even know what to say about this little thing. 7. I was just saying that the site doesn't work on mobile. 8. What does this stinkin button do? 9. Are there any benefits whatsoever to being a friend with someone? 10. If people are having problems becoming a member, isn't that an area of interest? 11. So about becoming a subscriber... 12. The quotes page needs some improvements. 13. This was the first problem I had in GDU. 14. So I heard you were working on that slowly. 15. 16. You need to be able to take some action over these pages Marked. Ideas 1. Well... 2. I'll just sit here saying Teamspeak server until you affirmatively say sure or nah. 3. Reopen the shops... 4. Fix all the issues above there. 5. A featured resources page would be quite cool, and make people want to come to the site more, what I think anyway. 6. "Explore the World" @Bob I'll get to that in a minute. 7. We as the community could organize them, I think it's something we should do. 8. Realize I put 5 back in. 9. I think I'm asking too much of Marked at this point :| 10. I think a lot of people would like to help by donating to the site, and to you Marked. 11. I understand things a lot better now that Bob explained them. But I already knew what most of the things did. What I'm trying to get at is that I'm looking at things from a user's perspective. I'll say these next words from an average user's perspective. What I would like to see in a website is for it to be constantly updated, it doesn't matter how many users are on the website, I just want to know that everything works and that nothing frustrates me. It's what keeps me coming back to a website, because I know I can achieve my goals on the internet, and be proficient with my activities. GDU has it's few things that doesn't work, and I can find it frustrating sometimes to see people making maximum use of the topic editor when I don't know how to HTML or CSS, and some of the times I find I have a hard time traversing this new site I discovered maybe an hour ago, I had problems creating my account, and I find that some things on this website are completely useless, and I've spent the little time I have on these useless things. But besides that, what does work is fantastic! I don't know many websites that allow you to have your own page on a website that can be viewed by many visitors like me. The resource pages are loathsome and are very well organized, and I'm finding many things that I can use for my project. The tutorial section is very good for me, as I'm new to game development (or it teaches my skilled mind some new tricks), and has many cool things I didn't know how to do before. And I like how unique this website looks compared to many other forums, as this site is extremely well organized, from the home page, to the forums page, everything! Searching things has never been easier, like if I want to find a game that is complete, there is a section for only those things, and if I want to find a game to interest me but is early in development, I can go to the New Games category. While I do have a few wishes for this website that can make my experience better, I feel that I can have use of this website for a while, though I may not come to the site often because I may need it for maybe one reason. Though it's a very good site. So what I'm trying to say is that by doing these few extra things, you will make newcomers feel welcome into the site instead of confused by some things. It will make people want to come back, and increase traffic, which will get them to tell their friends about the site possibly, and head on from there. What I'm posting up there is suggestions as to what will make this site better, and more popular, for even these tiny things can change how a person views a website. But don't get me wrong, you've done an amazing job with this website. Because it organizes the most important parts of this website, it has a great look to it, I find it very easy to talk to others on the website, and the amount of features you offer is spectacular. You've truly made a unique website among all these other RPG Maker Forums... or I understand that you are also trying to implicate other things like Unity into your website, which is also not done by all these other forums. I think that maybe you need to accept some web scripting help from other people, and open up a donation page for a few extra dollars to help keep the site running. Cause this website to me is like a Wikipedia of game development... Except that you are having the website up and running from your own pocket instead of letting the people who make up the content of this site help with making it a website that will always be there to help them for what they need... Holy crap this website really is the Wikipedia of Game Development o_O. So I hope I've cleared up some things and I hope my opinion is understandable (probably not), and that I'm just trying to help out with the community and newcomers. I understand you want to move on your life to somewhere else while still having this website here, so I think that you would appreciate some help with coding the site's pages. I'm just looking at it from the user's perspective. Since I have nothing else to say.... I guess Ardi out. -
I've noticed a few errors on this website that makes things harder to do, so I decided to create this post to put all the errors I've found on this website that restrict certain things. And while I'm at this, I also want to post some ideas for the website that someone could do to make things better and easier for new people. Problems 1. I've said it a few times, but being able to set a gif as your picture doesn't work, and I really would like to set a gif as my picture. 2. There is a blog section that nobody uses. Because it is under a tab nobody really knows exists. And in the list tab, it shows nothing. 3. We still have that arcade that has the high score boards broken. I've broken a few records and they don't appear, and it is really pointless as of now. 4. I made a tutorial on VX Ace, but the announcement that I made a tutorial didn't appear in the latest banner. 5. It is super annoying to delete things in the manager, because THERE IS NO MASS DELETE!!! 6. In the chat, when sharing videos, the videos take up too much of the chat, and it crowds it... Talking to a few people who like spamming videos... 7. This site doesn't work on mobile. 8. What the bloody hell does this button do? 9. What is the point of becoming a friend with someone? Is there any benefits? 10. Try making a new account and see how fun that is. It took me 3 days to make an account on this website. For it didn't register me right (at least it's better than the RPG Maker Forums which blocked me out completely). 11. I see that you can become a subscriber and/or a Legend(?) on this site, but no real indication on what someone needs to do to become one of those, or what being one means. 12. Why can't I delete my own quotes, or access what I made? And it seriously needs to be revamped, but that's for the Ideas section. 13. The logo in the game page creator won't upload, and will always use your page banner. 14. You mention a layout feature for the character profiles section... how long ago did you mention Coming Soon? 15. 16. Why do we still have games on the game page that are left to rot alone amidst other games or were discontinued? Ideas 1. A YouTube Channel for people here on GDU. 2. Some sort of Teamspeak Server. 3. Reopen the shops. 4. Fix all the issues above there. 6. An "Explore the World" page on Game Pages. 7. Have community events where we all show up at once and discuss matters like these, or to discuss games on the game pages, or to mange collabs on the YouTube channel or something. Or for challenges that award GDUpoints to the winner. 8. Realize I skipped 5 and slap yourself in the face because you didn't realize that. 9. A page that features all of a person's work, like drawings, sprites, scripts, games, or even the fun things like written stories (fanfics or whatever), quotes, polls/questions, an area like that! Though I think I'm asking too much of Marked at this point :| 10. Allow people to donate to GDU through patreon or by PayPal or something. 11. I still don't know what most buttons do in this editor I'm using to type this out. Like what does this do? Okay, that shares files you've uploaded... and what does this do? Omg Why Didn't I know that was a thing? Or how about Also, for the first month, I had no clue where anything was, and I was like a Runner in the maze, mapping out every single thing and finding where to locate each section... Like I still have troubles getting to the userpages of other people because I have to find their logo and name on this website to go there. So what I'm saying is that someone needs to write a full detailed instruction manual on how things in GDU work, like how to use the chat most effectively, making use of all it's features, how to utilize the topic editor fully, because I still have no clue what half of those buttons do up there, and for how to traverse the site. Please somebody make a Bomarkedio's Guide to the GalaxyDimensionUniverse. I'm slowly dying after making that not so hilarious pun. Also don't think that I'm attacking this website for being terrible, if this really was a terrible site, I don't think I would still be here, unlike every other site which I have left at some point or another because of bad people on the site, or the site completely failed in every aspect at some point. So if anyone else has suggestions to ideas for the site, or notices any errors, don't post below, go and bug the living Illuminati out of a certain person called Roochu, because the ghost says so. If you go bug Roochu, I will not haunt you, I will not spook you, and I we will be having our jolly day. But if you post below, I will haunt you, I will spook you... and I will give you cake... Just remember that a certain meme will make you think twice about that pastry though. Ardi out.

Even though I'm just about the only one on this website who can use these resources except for a few people, these graphics look very good, and I'm going to probably use them if I can contact PandaMaru. Thanks for the link :D.

Hello Gaudete, welcome to GDU. We are happy to welcome anybody to our site for any reasons you need. Like Zahraa said, you should make a game page so that people can know more about your project. Also, if you ever need any help with your scripts, just post a topic under the XP support forms, and I think that someone other than me will likely help you on the issue as soon as a solution can be found. Also... ... Why does that sound so familiar? I can't seem to put my game on it... I mean my thoughts... hmmm........... Nawh, I got nothing. But besides that your game title sounds like mine sorta and the first three things you use to describe your game's world are three things I'm building my game around, welcome to GDU. xD

I'm getting really hyped for when I release the early demo and the trailer. Said I'd release it tomorrow, but surprise, I'm going camping. So you'll have to give me a bit longer.

I want to make a list of awesome orchestral music, but I don't know of many composers whom make awesome soundtrack pieces. So I thought, "Why the hell not make a discussion topic on these forums about what our favourite composers are." and here I am. My favourite composer without a doubt is Mattia Cupelli. He makes such awesome music scores, and he has made some soundtracks for movies like The Man of Steel and Interstellar. He captivates me with every single second that the music he makes plays. It's amazing to hear him out on your first time around. I started out with a piece called "Love Lost" Then it went on to a piece called "Sparks" And I was bought when I came to "Leaf" You must listen. So what is your favourite composer? And stay away from pop, dubstep, rock, goth, techno, remixes, stuff like that.

nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu okay What would be a cool thing now that I think about it is if GDU had it's own Youtube channel, where it features members of our community playing games, and also shows off games we have available. Or to even review some games that are not of GDU. I would definitely like to see that. We could use teamspeak to join up in some games where we could have collabs between us, like on GMod or something that a lot of people like!
-
sure, I'd love to not use my voice on a teamspeak, with a few twists... hehehe

I'm the VX Ace master of this place I believe (Since I'm the only one about that uses it), and I'd be glad to help you make sprites. If you wish for help from me, send me a private message, and we can talk about the sprites you need for your game. I'm only good at spriting characters, so don't expect face sets from me, you'll have to find other ways to do those. For I'm looking forward to making fantasy sprites. As for credits, we can talk about that once I give you the sprites. I don't expect any payment, but I would like to have a name and website mention. You should also post your game on the games tab of this website, so people can check it out, and have opinions on your game. Ardi out.

Something that would be unique to see in an asset pack would be items that the player could interact with, like boxes, crates, papers, lamps, construction material... stuff like that. Or even possibly food objects like apples, grapes, bananas, fish, cabbage, bread, cake... it's no lie I tell you that it is a good idea!

Official Trailer "Desolate City: The Bloody Dawn"
Ardaceus replied to Netherware Entertainment's topic in Engine Discussion
Well, that escalated quickly. While I personally don't care for games like these, I must say it looks rather good. Reminds me if you took Resident Evil and made it in RPG Maker. The spriting looks very good (Though I'm not a fan of Mack), I like the HUD you have set up there, and the scenery has a very good look to it. Though 2 things that I would like is for a better looking menu, like the text doesn't fit in really well with the face and background, and doesn't look like a horror game's text. The other is to put a little more complexity in the combat then button mashing and moving your character, like the ability to place traps on the ground, or the ability to use stealth as an option at some points. Those are my personal opinions based on the trailer, but I'm not really interested in the game to be honest. Like said, you should put your game up in the games section of this forums for it to become more noticed by the people of GDU, and to organize what you want shown for your game. That's about it from me. -
What brought you to this site? Searched "RPG Maker VX Ace Resources" in Google, found this site and it's resource section. I made an account, and the first thing I did was play at the Arcade, then realized there was no point other than to waste all time at the arcade. Why did you decide to make an account and actually post? Because I could advertise my game in the games section and tell others about the game of what I was making, if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be here. Why are you still here? In all seriousness I'm here because i love this place. Its a nice small community with lots of freindly and helpful people. I have made many friends here and many are much better friends than what I have in real life. If it wasn't for this site, I wouldn't have met some great people that actually share common intrests with me. I mainly love helping people and showing off some of the stuff i make. This site is my internet home and i plan on keeping it that way till the site completely dies. Totally didn't steal this off of Pol.

Yeah, I made a VX Ace sprite of Bob, deal with it. Even though he doesn't have wings and a Fanny Pack, I think I sufficed enough. He's going to be Bob the Mailman Penguin in my game Wonder's War, since I don't know any other way to put a mail system in my game than by having a penguin deliver it to you. And then here's it in action. Bob the Mail Penguin! Here you have is ladies and nerds! Now with less demon wings and fanny packs, with more rollup backpack!
-
Woah wait... Woah... No... I'm this site's resident ghost... You can't call yourself a ghost! I'M THE ONLY GAUST ON THIS WEBSITE!!!!!!! Nobody steals me of my title, who does nightmare think he is?
-
How the heck do I set a gif as my profile pic? I'm trying and it doesn't work. Is it an exclusive only sort of thing or something?
-
Whoop Whoop! I have begun something today. Whoop Whoop! Something that I've wanted to do. Whoop Whoop! So I got Camtasia for free. Whoop Whoop! And now I'm screen capping my game. Whoop Whoop! Now making a trailer today. Whoop Whoop!

Ok this is mighty ridiculous for me, I'll be honest. I don't have a story that is like anyone else's, and mine is much simpler. I started out computers when I was 2, and I could change any setting on the computer, messing up with my parents all the time. When I was 3, I was browsing the internet and found a lot of things by searching the logos on my toys. Mind that I figured this all out myself. When I was 4, I was messing around on game websites and had fun in mspaint, it was also the same year I got a ps2, which replaced my family's previous consoles, like the SNES and the PS1, which I would play Final Fantasy 10 on, played with Earthbound, Castlevania, Gex 3, and tons of other games as well. When I was 5, I really began my playing career and was in love with pop cap games, I've played sooo many different puzzle games, search and finds, item falls, tons, but I had no idea that video gaming would be a passion. When I was 6, I began watching Youtube, as it came out a month after my birthday, and I would watch all the videos that came out, and I also got addicted to my mother and father's media library on Window's Media Player, and I would beat all the games on the PS2, SNES, and PS1 by this time, including Final Fantasy X and Earthbound, and this was also the year I got my Xbox, and would play many arcade styled games on it like SSX and Splashdown, this was the year my video game life came about. When I was 7, I got introduced to the three greatest games that inspired me to start a career in video games, Okami, Tales of the Abyss, and Final Fantasy 12. These are the games I cherish the most, as Okami had the coolest artwork, beautiful soundtracks, a creative battle and exploration system, lovable characters, hilarious comedy, and great linking to the Japanese culture which was awe inspiring to me at the time. Then Tales of the Abyss, which had alright character voices, but great designs on characters, weapons, the world, the cities, and just to mention the anime style cut scenes which were epic as hell during fighting scenes, and it had pretty funny moments such as the sauna bath scene with Guy, and the lore and story of the game is so intriguing to me as to how well it was orchestrated, *then points you towards the OST of the game (which sounds so fitting with the game). And Final Fantasy XII was a gem to me at the time, for I loved the graphics which were pure epic and majestic, and the details into everything like the hunt papers, the monsters, the airships, the characters, the buildings, the scenery, and the soundtrack was fully orchestrated and awesome, which added some depth to each area, and sounded nice on repeat, and the antagonists actually looked evil while looking too much on the too much side, like Vayne and Gabranth, though I can call down it on the character development, which is non-existent for the main characters, but it is more heaved on the antagonists, and some of the level physics are quite... and some of the speech and cliches are... but other than these two flaws of characters (which I enjoyed with the dumb humor implied sometimes), and this sometimes bad level geography which felt restrictive on some forms of exploration, you can't deny that maps are good, because when you look at the map for the great crystal, or the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea map, you'll realize that exploration is quite handed to you nicely, and backtracking is allowed except when you are in a few areas of the game that you either need to escape or complete. And let's not deny that the characters weren't interesting, Vaan and Penelo might be annoying, but they were fighting for the freedom of their city, and it just happens to be what the other four more fan favourite characters are doing, Ashe was an awesome princess with rights to be angry at many things, as her life really sucked after... and Bashe really got hit bad when his twin brother killed so many people that ties all 6 main characters together, and everyone blamed this unlucky guy. Then Fran is fan service up the bonkers. And everyone wants to bang that sky pirate Balthier for just being a badass sky pirate with a lovable personality. FFXII was a good game, and now on to something else. When I was 8, my mom and father thought I was going to become a psychotic video game satanist worshiper serial killer, so they took away all my games that year and all my access to media, so no YouTube, no internet explorer, no RPGs, no drawing in MSpaint, no music on Window's media player, and handed me a bunch of learning and typing games! Seriously! Fungustoad to that! While I spent almost all this year of my life with learning and typing programs, I did learn complex math, complicated science, interesting history, and how to type at super fast speeds, but I was depressed as I couldn't play the super fun games I once did, and I ordered my parents at the end of the year to have my games back, which they thankfully did. This was also the year when I began writing stories much like the games I used to play because I was feeling depressed separated from these games I loved with a passion. When I was 9-12, I really lost any friends that I had in little amounts, and I was alone, but I kept playing video games as a passion, for they really got me to keep living, as I was depressed beyond what anybody could understand, for I was bullied by students, teachers, and peers, and nobody was into the same stuff I was always adoring, for they liked sports, gossiping, and that was it. None were artistic, creative, mature, and all were apparently better than me in every way. I would always fake sick just to stay home and play the one thing that made me happy in my lonely life. I snapped at the end of 6th grade, was when everybody became afraid of me, and knew that I had enough of their bullpoop and showed that I wouldn't put up with them no longer, and I would beat up their ass. Then 13-15, I still stayed lonely, but it was a new school, and the teachers knew what happened to me, and were kind to me, but the students got word of what I was like, and stayed away from me, it was also the time when I found a talent in entertaining the young and disabled like no one else in my community could, and I was always watching over them and caring for them, but I was still playing games and watching YouTube. It was also the time when I got into the FPS genre, and I think that just killing things in it at the time helped me release years of anger on stuff, I also decided what I want to be during this period of time, I wanted tell my many years of stories that I've written in the form of my most favourite passion, and I wrote down different mechanics for each game and layouts for design. Now I'm 16, and life is pretty well for me, as I found friends again who share similar interests as me, and I found RPG maker VX Ace, which took me a while to get a handle of with all the features available, and I started my journey into making Wonder's War 4 months after figuring out what the mighty hell I was doing. And I have no plans of ever cancelling a project, never, and I promise that to everybody. So that was my Not-Polraudio-long story of how I got into video games, and game development. And now if you'll excuse me, I have some scene of the main character questioning what the heck a Fashran Boggart is to make. Ardi out. Also this is @zahraa: That's a Fashran Boggart of the Teal's swamp called Fashran in the East Nova lands... if you were wondering. This thing is rather annoying, as when it dies to most things, it will multiply into two other Boggarts, making it very annoying if you don't know how to properly kill one, which implies it as a boggart, due to these things being very annoying. Maybe I shouldn't have made that out of text reference, then again, we are all crazy on this website, so it's alright.
-
Oh, well to Fashran Boggarts with this. *Shoots self in the head and becomes a ghost of a ghost Holy Nito and praise the sun how long did you spend making that? An hour? Because ain't no guest got time for that! Just one thing I notice is that people giving up their dream of making video games at one point, then coming back to it because of :o)
-
That would be "In mother Iran, you don't choose game development, game development chooses you" Also something that gets me to come up with stories to to play my list of fantasy music and daydream of stories behind the music. That really helps when I'm trying to expand or create a story on the beauty side of the game. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFUPc80ssNv6GSyRELgdR9CF0dI_9Ul09 That there would be my fantasy playlist that inspired some of the things in the universe Wonder's War takes place in. Also there are other methods to creating games that I find work for me. Like coming up with an idea for a character, like "Devon Styllis, a self absorbed guy who is just a total badass when it comes to fighting, and he fights against the Abaddon Political party, whom ruined his happy life in the past, and plan to destroy the world over their lust for money. He is only driven by his own passion of hate for them and he's not doing it to save the world." And just shape the world and plot around that simple character design. Feel free to take it for your own game if you please. Or the same thing works for doing other characters, like the antagonist, or a sub-main character. That is one of the easiest ways to come up with a story. For my Wonder's War game, it was the main antagonist who started that story. Hope it helps.
-
Just because nobody has really asked it yet, I might as well start. Personally, I was a huge fan of video games, and I was quite alone in my life with no one to talk to. I've been writing stories since I was 8, inspired by any game I played such as the epicness of Final Fantasy, the deep meanings of Earthbound, the fun and weird nature of Clay Fighter, the creative level design of Link to the Past, and lots of other things.
-
Polraudio didn't cheat on his right hand with his left hand.
-
Well now, it appears that our whole community is crazy, for everybody but Marked dies in weird ways. Like multiple times over long periods of time, and being fine to keep at it despite dying horribly. It's like an Andrew Hussie web comic, except this is a Bomarked website.
-
Yeah... I can be at some points.
