Okay, back when I started playing videogames (when Kirby's Adventure was new on the NES), there were but maybe a few RPGs. These days, there are literally hundreds. Now, I haven't played many RPGs, but I thought I'd give my top 10, based on depth, gameplay, how well it inspells the player, replayability, and the very definition of 'RPG'. Also, bear in mind I have been attempting to have a life and have had little success in playing and completing every RPG on the market. 10: Jade Cocoon - PS1 This RPG was a classic. You play as Levant, a cocoon master, who has been chosen to fend off the spirits of the forest by capturing monsters. Your goal was simple: Capture monsters, mix and breed them, and save your town from the impending evil. An overall decent game, but when you go against 3 monsters with just one of your own, the game tends to get a little unbalanced. 9: Azure Dreams - PS1 Azure Dreams placed you as the son of Guy, a master monster tamer who mysteriously vanished after reaching the top of the tower, and is presumed dead. This game has a lot of back and forth, as you must train your monsters to reach the top of the tower. The biggest drawback of this game is the main character's level resets every time you leave the Monster Tower. 8: Crystalis - NES This is basically a second generation Action-RPG. Crystalis was the first A-RPG that incorperated an experience-based leveling system for the main character AND allowed magic. This game's main quest was to create the sword of elements and save the world. (Sounds generic, but it is 20 years old, so give it a break.) 7: Vagrant Story - PS1 With Vagrant Story, you play as Ashley Riot, a VKP member who is seeking a man named Sydney in Lea Monde. The only problem: other people are searching the ancient city in search of the ancient Grimoire arts and ultimate power. Not a traditional RPG, persay, but by definition an Action RPG. 6: Final Fantasy X - PS2 An in-depth, story driven RPG based on the story of Tidus; a young man pulled from his world and placed in Spira. At first, the meaning of his visit to Spira by Sin is unclear, but as the story unfolds, it proves to be a tale of Romance, Mystery, and Death. 5: Legend of Zelda - NES The one that started it all; Legend of Zelda proved to be one of the very first Action RPGs. This game started the LoZ francise and took the videogame world by storm. With the simple story of collecting the 8 pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom to defeat Ganon, this game is anything but straightforward. Without assistance, you could wander for weeks trying to find the next level. 4: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - N64 From the time this game was first announced, til it's release, it took 2 years, and 3 date push-backs. I remember getting so mad when it was announced, then pushed back time and again, by nearly 11 months. This game pushed the Legend of Zelda francise to the limit, and wasn't bested until Twilight Princess. (the only reason TP isn't on the list is I found it with a slow opening.) 3: Dragon Warrior - NES Nothing like getting back to the roots and hitting the very definition of 'Role Playing'. This game puts you into the game as Sir Erdrick's heir. This game was one of the very first turn-based RPGs ever to hit the NES, and started the rise of RPGs. (In fact, Final Fantasy even refers to Dragon Warrior, as the headstone of Erdrick plays a cameo appearance in the city of Elfin.) The reason this game hits so high on my list is it portrays the very definition of 'RPG'; though by today's standards, the story is extremely overplayed. 2: Final Fantasy VII - PS1 One of the major masterpieces of the videogame legacy. This game brought polygon cutscenes into a major part, and gave the game depth. On top of that, a complex story gave this game everything it needed, from love, to heartache, and even betrayal. Revered as one of the best RPGs of all time, the only reason this stays from the top of my list is the opening 2 hours of the game (before leaving Midgard) was just a little too slow for my tastes. 1: Brigandine - PS1 A strategy/tactical RPG that was ahead of its day. Though Ogre battle came out before Brigandine, it was this game that took TRPGs to the next level. Where FFT has the standard 'square tile' setup that you would find on a chess board, nothing captivates the feel of a battle field in a TRPG like Brigandine. With a hex-grid setup, and a Risk game feel, Brigandine takes the top of my list. The story is simple: Zemekis, leader of Almekia's troops has grown restless, and talked into overthrowing the king by his right-hand man, Cador. When this happens the continent is thrown into war; and the other 5 countries' leaders of Forsena, whether they see it as an opportunity to expand, or to liberate the country, decide it is time to act. Gameplay forces you to take on the role of one of the 5 countries leaders and defend your castles, all the while trying to take over the continent. With the library of usable units, and 5 different countries to play (plus the code to play as the bad country), this game has a high replay value tagged on. To make it a little harder, you have 10 years (and each turn takes up a month) to accomplish this.

The only reason they are bypassing the death penalty in many states in the US is it is 'more costy than a life sentence'. However, A friend of mine was recently murdered, and her little girl of 3 was left alone with her mother's body for almost 12 hours. Before that, i was against capital punishment. Now that it has hit so close to home... I say if anyone is given a death penalty, give them 1 month to file an appeal. If it doesn't happen, shoot em in their cell. If they do, and it falls through, shoot em right there. It saves time in the penal system, it saves money, and it gives relief to the family.

If Pol's doesn't work, try this: class Scene_Map alias leon_changetrans_scenemap_init initialize def initialize case $game_variables[1] when 0 $data_system.battle_transition = "001-Blind01" when 1 $data_system.battle_transition = "002-Blind02" end end end Essentially, this will check variable 1 for it's value, and set a battle transition based on it. You can add more using the 'when n' statement (when 2, when 3, etc.)
-
I have another suggestion: The Frighteners. Stars Michael J. Fox. In essence, he is a con-man who can see ghosts, and he must stop Death from killing the people of Fairwater. The only problem: He is wanted for the murders.
-
Yes, replace the n with the number of teh switch, but no, you do not need the true. Here's proof, straight from the standard RGSS: # If right window is active: call update_right if @right_window.active update_right return end That just checks if '@right_window.active' is true. And, if so, goes to method 'update_right' Source: Scene_Equip. I hate to call you out, Pol, I just want to make sure you don't make a mistake.
-
Just to fix a quick note so pol knows for future reference. Saying: if $game_switches[n] is the same as saying: if $game_switches[n] == true

Lake Placid wasn't bad. Fits between horror and comedy. If you want a very good comedy/musical, check out The Producers (the remake with Nathan Lane).

Perhaps you didn't notice the 'all other methods fail' part. As for the telling the truth results in a spanking, that should never be an option when the truth is involved. Disgresion with physical punishment is a must. I didn't say when a kid does something bad, spank them. I said when all other methods have failed, you do so.
-
If you can come up with another alternitave than physical punishment when all other methods have failed, please, let me know, Maph.
-
Maph, have you ever tried rasing a kid? Sometimes 'time out' doesn't work. And nor does grounding. That is when you must resort to a physical type of punishment. Trust me, I have a nephew who is just a pain in the ass and won't listen worth shit.

Though it's been said, many times, many ways, Merry Christmas.

Thank you, my friend. You know, in 22 years I have learned only 1 sure thing. Each year gets shorter.

Welcome. The site is a little dead right now due to the holiday season, but I'm sure it will pick up, eventually. -
With XP, i have had IE do that before. Just open 1 new window after another. Almost froze my computer...

Norton is the worst antivirus you can get.

Here, try this
-
go to avira.com and download their free antivirus. I have had bad experiences with AVG (no offense, Bahamut)

Okay, what the hell is it with kids? They do nothing but cry, piss all over the place, and cause problems; ESPECIALLY infront of their retarted, dumbass, fucking parents (most of which wouldn't know how to raise the temperature on a stove, let alone a kid.) Case and point, we'll call him Chuckie. This numbskull is 4 fucking years old. Why the HELL doesn't he know how to talk? He calls Michael 'koko'. Oky, that is just 1 thing. He knows what a toilet is... so instead, goes into MY laudnry room and pisses all over the other kids' clean coats and backpacks! WHAT THE HELL?! Then he pissed on my brother. Funny, but not when you have a 350 pound raging bull ready to kill someone... And that is just 1 of the many kids I help watch. I swear... it isnt the kids fault though! It's the ignorant parents who want their kids growing up spoiled. Like this one kid... all he does is hang ALL OVER his grandma (the one raising him and his brother.) Further, the grandma won't give the other kid the light of day. (he happens to be younger too... go figure.) Now, that is just one of the issues irking me on this lovely snow-fallen crest day. The next is the fags at GI who wouldn't know a good game if it fucked em in the ass. Case and point: Fable II. Everyone, have a look at the Reader Review here. 7.6. And not even the GameFAQs crew gave it a 9. So why the hell do they give it a 9.5 when it is a game magazine to give insight to the reader? I am telling you... these guys are being paid off by some of these big names. And for those who think I'm crazy, we'll aslo have a look at Castlevania: Judgment. GI: 5. Gamefaqs? Readers: a solid 8, and the gamefaqs crew, 7.6. Now, you may be saying 'Yes, but a lot more people reviewed Fable 2 and it is a more solid ratiing." Maybe so, but games are bought and reviewed based on the gamer's preferences. Where does a magazine's review board come off reviewing based on THEIR tastes; ignoring the damn reader? It is faggots like this ruining the gaming industry and causing titles that some would love (fir instance, Ghostbusters) to leave the woodwork. All I have to say is thank the Lord for Atari, Konomi and Capcom. They make the games for the players. Now, what the hell is it with the fuck-rags who think it is okay to take their anger out on those who did NOT A FUCKING THING to them? I mean, is it really called for when you lose your job to attack someone who did nothing to you? Now, this is a for instance, not a true thing. But as for the rest of you, i don't know about. I'm just sick of fuckers thinking simply because I have a relativly frail body I can be the one to play the role of a port-a-potty. For isntance, my mom says my bro can't go out with his friends; so I get yelled at by both of them after the fight over it; effectively pissing me off and what did I do? Not a DAMN thing! All you fuckers out there: If you are mad at someone or something; take it out on THEM; not someone who wasn't around... Fuckers. Further, you know what else pisses me off? Idiot drivers. Before you all think you know what I'm talking about: come to Utah. I guarentee you won't last 2 minutes on these fucking streets. Nothing is worse than watching 2 cars merge into the same lane in front of you and collide. Or see a guy with his LEFT turn light on go RIGHT. Oh, my favorite: They pull out infront of you on the interstate then go 15 under the limit. Nothing says "Hey, I like the sound of twisting metal behind me" like causing a pile-up behind you! And this is just a few! My girl and I, in a tiiiiny little 2 door metro were almost T-boned by a fucking guy in a Ford 450. Now, for those of you who want a comparison; that is like a 300 pound man running over a scrawny 10 year old boy. Not pretty. I saw my life flash before my eyes. Don't remember dancing with that Puertorican named Lupe, but *shrug*. I'm just sick of fucking idiots. Unfortuantly, to avoid said idiots, one must die. Now, this all boils down to one thing: Ignorance and inconsideration. Everybody just cares about htem fucking selves and don't give a shit about others. Maybe if people were more fucking aware and cared about others than what hte hell they're getting in this world, maybe this shit-hole planet would become a better place. Now that my anger hath been vented on anyone who really wants to read about it; I'm gonna find something to do on this snow-filled day. Fucking snow... Now I gotta shovel. -EDIT One last thing unnerving me: This site's way of updating the last post. It doesn't work.

Don't listen to Ark, he's a bit of a whiner. :P. Everything looks good. we'll see how the points go.

Well, welcome back man! As for the point system, we'll find a way to get it going. I'm sure that even if it is just off of posts (some areas not allowing it, such as the spam area), we'll make it work. At any rate, good luck at keeping the site going!

Game file is prefered. If there is information in it you don't want others to see, I'll encrypt it for you. Promise.

Bug fixed: Exit previously didn't work. Now it does.

Okay, ever get just plain sick of trying to find the perfect screen tone for your map? Well, this tool will be your salvation. Plug this script into your game, go into test mode, and press 'F8' to allow you to change the map's tone before your very eyes! Now, this script won't set the tone for you, but gives you the numbers you need to set it in an event. So, enjoy! Script #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # Screen Tint Debug Menu by Leon_Westbrooke #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # This scene allows you, in Debug mode, tamper with the map's tone until you # find a desired coloring. # It will NOT set the tone for you automatically. Instead, record the numbers # and use them in a change screen tone event. However, this should cut down # on countless testing of the screen's tint. # # To use: # Plug the script into your game's script archive. # To access it, go into debug mode (F12) and press F8 to access the menu. # Use the arrow keys to change the maps tone. #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # * Game_Temp #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- class Game_Temp alias leon_stdm_gametemp_init initialize attr_accessor :tinttest_red attr_accessor :tinttest_green attr_accessor :tinttest_blue attr_accessor :tinttest_gray def initialize leon_stdm_gametemp_init @tinttest_red = 0 @tinttest_green = 0 @tinttest_blue = 0 @tinttest_gray = 0 end end #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # END Game_Temp #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # * Spriteset_Map #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- class Spriteset_Map attr_accessor :viewport1 end class Game_Screen attr_accessor :tone end #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # END Spriteset_Map #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # * Scene_Map #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- class Scene_Map alias leon_stdm_scenemap_update update def update leon_stdm_scenemap_update if $DEBUG and Input.press?(Input::F8) $scene = Scene_TintDebug.new end end end #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # END Scene_Map #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # * Window_TintTest #------------------------------------------------------------------------------- class Window_TintTest < Window_Selectable def initialize super(0, 0, 192, 192) self.contents = Bitmap.new(width -
