  1. But does really exist for users who frequently use the site? If you're a regular visitor, I don't see a reason why this would be true 100% of the time, except in extraordinary exceptional cases. IE bashing is actually a positive thing. The less people using it the better for them and the internet. But I know that wasn't your point. With regards to what I said above, I will probably do a few tweaks to ensure the layout cooperates with ie7 & 8. IE9 should work right away, minus some css3 gradients. But there will be features that simply cannot be reconciled with some versions of IE. I would have to go to great lengths to do so, for the minority. But this of course should only be additional features, and the site's basic functionality should work everywhere. I'm not talking about the current design btw. It's been so long since I've touched that :P

I also don't agree with domestic violence, but I do agree with the saying "If you were a man, I would hit you for that."

I am 100% against violence, but man there are just some times I wish I wasn't. Also chicks take advantage and go overboard knowing or assuming there wont be any repercussions.

    Avi to OGV

Just letting you know that the Feedback and forum help forum is just for issues relating to the site. This topic could go in any of 3 other forums though. It's not that clear which, but technically to do with Ace (other Ace users may have the same issue) so moving it there.
  5. If you look above at my first post then you'll find the link to see a live demo of both. I think this topic has served its purpose. While the decision is close, I think we'll go with the top bar, with the possibility of being able to switch (but that would be a very low priority feature). It looks a lot more bare now without it, and I've started preparing the site to go live. Some work to go yet though. I must admit, there is some sentimental feeling about removing it :P It's been part of the original plan which I drew up on paper at the end of 2010.
  6. Yup. Without the sidebar, that should be a lot easier. I think it's pretty easier to do actually. With my job, I rarely get to use the cool css3 features because I gotta make my sites compatible with IE7 & 8. So I'm having none of that with GDU. If you don't use a standards-compatible browser then you're going to miss out. But that will be most people, so its okay.

    May Voting

Its happened like 4+ times. Its pretty common consider the number of voters.
  8. Starts study (using someone else's notes) 1 day before midsessional. 23% of the class fail, scores in the top 22%. Boom.

I'm sure you probably were more prepared than most students before studying, but either way, good job! I'm guessing "midsessionals" are half-way through the term? I'm not familiar with NZ's educational system, here in canada we have "midterms" (which sound like the same thing)

    2. Marked

      Marked

Its probably the same. There's a group of 5 full-year compulsory law courses. In law we call them midsessionals, in my bcom they're called midterms, but the midsessionals are tests that occur after 1 term of the 4 terms each of those 5 courses go for.

Well ok prepared isn't the best term lol but I still call my 1.5 days preparation better preparation than most. It's not the amount of preparation, its what you learnt. I'm also not bad at apply principles to fac...

ts, which I could get away with not practicing for this one.

Since we've got 5 compulsory full-year courses, they are done over 2 years, and therefore its a mix of 2nd and 3rd years.

Technically there's 7 full-year compulsory courses, but this status is getting WAY to long :P

  9. Ah yes, well the forums come with its own default mobile skin that comes with the software. Certainly not made by me. Since the layout isn't actually defined using the software (the forums are actually loaded within the GDU template) it will be the same design that slowly 'downgrades' as your window decreases in size. Take my bank for example, https://www.kiwibank.co.nz/ Load it up and squeeze the window and see how it changes. That's the sort of thing I'll be going for.
  10. It had nothing to do with GDU, nothing has changed on RMXPU for months and months now. I know its annoying when people say just don't use IE, but take it from someone who had to optimize websites to display properly in IE, they have a point. IE8 and lower are an absolute disgrace, and I'd veto any future version because of their ignorance. If not for their monopoly, they wouldn't have done such a half ass job. In saying that, IE9 and greater, they show websites pretty well and still have a few problems, but its not a bad a browser. RMXPU had only been optimized for firefox. GDU will optimized for IE9+, firefox, chrome and opera, and mobile devices (so far as being compatible with my ipod touch, my andriod phone, and my brothers tablet :P )
  11. Following the discussions in this topic I have decided to start up a poll. To preview which you prefer, please visit and login to GDU (NOTE: you can only login using the sidebar link): http://www.gdunlimited.net/ If you see the following... ...then an older version of the CSS is cached in your browser and must refresh so you see it properly: I need to have established one or the other because GDU uses a fixed width structure, meaning to change from a sidebar to no sidebar would be a considerable amount of work in the future.
  12. Yeah Ackley scroll up to my last post, i kinda changed the discussion of the topic. I'm trying to determine if you guys would prefer the top bar to the side bar. Either or. I'll try and get a live preview up. EDIT: Discussions for this topic have been moved here: http://www.gdunlimited.net/forums/topic/8706-pollgdu-sidebar-vs-topbar/

  14. Yeah there was a bit of a mix up. I didn't want them on the recent posts hook because they were staff only, then a few members managed to post in them. I messed up the permissions a bit :P But then I realized its the members permissions and not the forums permissions. And also the fact I use the GDU site to post on the forums, I miss a few things. I'm trying to get rid of this site asap. All fixed :)

    Sports?

I was never good at shotput. I was ok at discuss. But long jump and every running distance I was. I started the forum and all but I think its a coincidence its made it this far and that I stuck with it. I still maintain I'm not a computer person, and I learned to build websites entirely for building this one. If you had the skills to work at home, do your own hours, and have a decent amount of say in the business operations then you'd do that as opposed to an unfulfilling laborer job. I probably wouldn't get the same wage either. Since the end of my athletics days, I do a wee bit of weights but 2011 was a but mucky for me. Its not an excuse but early on the quake came which produced a lot of M5 earthquakes (strangely most in the evenings) and I was always afraid of dropping the bar onto myself, or overreacting (you never the know the size till your shaking) and dropping the bar on myself, when I did bench press (which is alone in my room away from anyone else, don't have a spotter). I also screwed up my back in '11 getting a wee bit too into curls one night. I also gotta do weights to keep warm in my room (a sleepout) anyways. Winter is coming.
  16. If you mean I expect half the forum to contribute, then that would be nice :P But I don't, just more than 1 more person :) What about transparency until you hover of it? Either way, with a persistent top bar there is no need for the "Game Dev Unlimited". So what do you guys think about moving the entire sidebar into the topbar? The increase in width may make up for the decreased height. Note: I made this is photoshop, so things aren't aligned the icons are a bit blurry: It's a big decision because it affects all the views outside of GDU, so I need to know you guys think! Perhaps a live comparison is needed?

    Sports?

I'm probably similar to you eco but I'm not sure I label myself a nerd. I mean, I guess people label me a nerd because I make websites as a job and all my friends now that. But I don't really do anything else. I do enjoy making websites... I don't have time to play sports these days and not really the opportunity to do so either. I used to play rugby, loved playing touch rugby, and represented my highschool in handball (the serious, European sport, not the childs game) and rock climbing. I also competed in the semi-national athletics competition (nz has a north and south island so i comepeted against everyone in the south island in my age group, which is like the 4th of 5 possible stages) for long-jump, and also my relay team qualified for the 4x100m relay in my final year of highschool for that same semi-national competition. I make websites and run fast. Boom. Now I'm studying and working all damn day and miss being fit so much :/ but thats life. Pretty shit once you get older.
  18. Thanks to everyone who added their marker to the map. It's looking good so far. I made updates to make sure the values inserted into the database are only coordinates. I eventually want to have javascript form validation (at first instance) so you can find out if you've done something wrong as soon as you hit submit, but I've yet to look into that. For now, there's a message that will come up if you did something wrong.
  19. Yeah branding is something we've got to work on. But I suppose we've got to have something to brand first so its not the highest priority right now. The green is supposed to the recognizable color, but I'm also pondering what level of customization GDU should have. For example, I could have a field where a member types in their color, like this: '#000000' and all the greens would change to their desired color. Or we could have set colors. Or, we could restrict access based on posts/points etc. So many things to think about :P This is the green: Did you try the live example? Also, does anyone else care to comment on the top bar? It's right here: http://www.gdunlimited.net (just scroll past the search bar)
  20. i just realized that entering in empty values will cause the map to not show (thanks solshadow). So I'll fix that when I finish moving today. Try not to enter empty values in the meantime.
  21. I've been seeing a lot of websites with a fixed scroll bar when menu items. For example, facebooks topbar and how the logo, menu options and the search are always on the screen at the top. Here's a few examples: http://www.kolabs.com.au/ http://sevenly.org/ http://www.turningart.com/ http://www.kuhl.com/ http://whiteboard.is/ So I'm just thinking we have up there the logo (which you can click and return to the homepage) and a search box. A big unifying feature we need for this site is a single search box that you can use to search all content. Here's what it may look like And here's a live demo (notice that it appears after you scroll past the search box): http://www.gdunlimited.net/ Like or dislike? Could we move the sidebar up there altogether? I've been thinking recently about a complete redesign. I'm just wondering if the current design is brandable. Anyway, feedback appreciated!
  22. Hi guys, Today I'm releasing our first GDU component! I had a couple of hours free so I whipped this up real quick. I got the idea from an old IPB mod which basically allows you to do the same thing, but you can't really get it anymore. The member map allows you to add your location to the world map along with all of the other members. Since this is a GDU component, first you must login at the following URL (using your account details from this forum(I say this forum, but its the same forum)): http://www.gdunlimited.net/login And then click the button on the right to add your own marker: http://www.gdunlimited.net/membermap Don't bother to add your actual physical address if you're worried about security. Just the suburb, city or even state would do fine. (but your marker may get hidden under someone in the same area as you) I made this super quick, so please report any errors you find. Thanks!
  23. "The chief justice of Indonesia's powerful Constitutional Court has hit out at the decision to grant Schapelle Corby clemency, saying drug crimes are worse than terrorism" - Well, just another country I'd never step foot in. What an imbecile.

    1. Jon Bon

      Jon Bon

I think separating corruption into categories is irrelevant. Your intent is either pure or not. My point was that what I explained is a potential reason for someone to not step foot in your country as you said, based on at least one example of a questionable citizenship, and obviously corrupt operations. In any case, corruption/idiocy in government is unique to the individual not place habitat.

I'd love to have argued with you on this if it were in a topic :P Just 2 things: The judge wasn't corrupt, but I can agree with your last sentence. Still, I'd never go to a number of countries based on their laws even though I'd never break them

    3. Jon Bon

I know you hate massive comments to statuses.

The judge is corrupt because idiotic politicians=corrupt politicians because they obviously aren't qualified for the job and there for got it unjustly. Likely through a brother or uncle.

  24. Thinking about remaking the very old IPB mod 'member map' - the one where you put your location on the map so everyone can see the various locations of members of the community
