Does anyone know Black Shadow's new username? I'm trying to get ahold of him.

Yeah I'm sorry *hugs* Though, not to be a smarty parts, I was talking about your response, not you :D Yup, I'd be keen to hear from members who would want to get on board. My vision for this would be to recruit members who are interested in writing for readers. Just like a blog, but slightly more serious. Aside from your general "Oh this is interesting, here's a link" there would be taking a certain piece of news and writing about it with your own opinions and personality. What we're doing here is not just looking for people to give us free content to make our website more popular. There will be benefits to publishers (lets call them publishers) in the form of recognition and readers (which is why you write anything, really), and we want to build the facilities to make that happen as part of forming a central hub for game development, and game dev news is a big part of that because there will be opportunities that people will miss out on coz they never heard about it. There should definitely be a newsletter for this :)

Lol your misunderstandings of my posts are funny sometimes. I was referring to your original post and subsequent post being the opposite of each other.

The GDU upload is down at the moment. I have been working on something else that utilizes the same functions and updated those functions as well as the uploader (which is 3rd party) and I ended up breaking the uploader. I haven't found the bug just yet, but I will get onto it. As for the chatroom, I can't spare the time to work on it's bugs right now :(

What a busy week. This week I have realized the size of the task I set myself. My boss gave me a fair bit of time off work so I decided to start writing up one of our content sections (which is kinda secret at the moment). It has been a massive task, but I'm reasonably pleased with the results too far. This particular section is probably going to be 2nd largest/most complicated of the content sections (in alphabetical order so you can't guess which I'm talking about: Audio, Gallery, Games, Scripts/Snippets, Tools, Tutorials), it's probably taken me about 2 weeks now. That's 2 full free weeks without work, so it has taken a big chunk of the little time left of my holiday from uni. That said, I aim to have about 4 of the above content sections up and running by then. I changed up a few things. The coolest is probably the login popup, which replaces going to the default forums login screen Not just that, but now wherever you login or logout, you always redirect to the page you were originally on. I've got a new search bar up in the main menu. That sorta makes 2 searches, but I thought we just had to have a visible input field, because y'know, it's probably way too easy for new users to miss the search icon on the top-right of the screen. For, GDU seems to be coming together. Our stats suck right now, but the website is coming around. Things are starting to click, and I'm pleased about that. In retrospect I might have done things differently. I disassembled all of the things that made the site unique to continue this GDU project, which has officially turned 2 years old since I first started it. But I think that I just gotta keep writing and developing and it will get easier and easier. I'm creating our unique website with its own systems, and these systems can be implemented quick and easy into new sections, making development far more speedy. An example is the like system, which can be easily plugged into any content section I decide to make. Similarly we an upload system, social media buttons, short url system, etc. One thing that still worries me is the community and whether or not I can rebuild a team of staff that we used to have. I understand it's not easy for people to follow a vision, so I'm waiting patiently while I develop the site piece by piece for people to see where GDU is going and jump on board with the project and get involved.

You're right, this topic goes in RPG Maker XP Support: http://www.gdunlimited.net/forums/forum/188-rpg-maker-xp-support/

That was a really bipolar response :P Which do you mean? I don't think the site needs to be active if its just a handful of news-makers. We could always start it off with linking to other news articles.

In the "About" and help document in Ace it said 2011, so I went with that.

Introduction The Engines section is to give our visitors and members information on various game making software. One of the goals of the site is to promote the making games and the goal for this section is to show off each engine's benefits as well as see community feedback on the engines. Link http://www.gdunlimited.net/engines Features Direct downloads Overviews of stats - screen resolution, supported filetypes, etc. Screenshots A like system (click on the heart) Short URLs Sharing links Recent forum activity Support GDU and the engines you like The purchase links are setup using Enterbrain's affiliate program where GDU will receive 30% of the purchase for anyone who buys an engine through that link. If you're thinking about buying one of those engines, please consider doing it through those links :) Also share the engine with your friends on facebook, google+ or through a tweet. Or be anti-social and just click "like". The future of the engines section At the moment there aren't many interactive features aside from a like system. In the future we want to include a rating system out of 5, or 10, as well as an official GDU review and rating of each engine and user reviews by community members. We want to allow visitors to filter through the most liked and more highly rated engines by our community. These filters will be developed as our selection of engines increases. Your feedback Do these pages display the information that you need to see when making the decision whether to try out the engine? Let me know what features are lacking that you think should be added to these pages. So far we've only got RPG Maker VX Ace and RPG Maker XP, but we are certainly interested in expanding. If there's an engine you think should be in there, let me know. Screenies If you would like to see your work in these engines in the screenshots for everyone to see, post your best screenshots and here and I will add them in, particularly for Ace and screenshots of your game inside the editor.

The media coverage on this story has been bugging me for a while and I'm curious to see what you guys think. This is the nurse in England who committed suicide after she fell for a prank call by radio hosts pretending to be the queen, and she gave out confidential information regarding a royal patient. The media has been ripping into the radio hosts and all sympathies towards the dead nurse, who left a note blaming the radio hosts. Do you think that this is right? In my opinion the nurse must have been an extremely sensitive person, and as the radio hosts said, no one could ever expect such an event to happen from a hoax call. So do the radio host deserve so much hate and blame? The way I see it is nurse was married with two teenage children, their lives are screwed. The radio hosts have lost their jobs and because of the note blaming them they will have to carry that for the rest of their lives. Is that because they made the prank call, or because an extremely sensitive person picked up the phone? The media has clearly chosen the former. To commit suicide and leave behind your family and cause that trauma to them, for your own issues, is just outright selfish.

If it's the only fix, someone should post it so we can pin in the RMVXAce section, and I could add it to our ace page http://www.gdunlimited.net/engines/rpg-maker-vx-ace

That's annoying >.> Anyone else getting the attack site screen? I've been googling about it and the only solution mentioned is for me to get the site reviewed by google, which I have done and have been cleared.
-
Yeah. The site came back for about 12 hours and I posted this topic, then closed it back down while I moved everything to a new server. The "
-
Yeah it should only be about 10 hours. The main issue this time was that I didn't have access to the database as it had disappeared and could be obtained via the host. We had a bunch of issues in getting it to me, and then when we did my plan to use two servers for a single website was a bit stupid, that was always going to cause unbearable slowness. We're currently hosted on my boss's server, so thanks to him we got back up. The reason it takes 10 hours to upload is because nearly 1,000,000 queries need to be run to upload a 630mb database. I have to do it about 3 times in order to go through and pick up missed queries from the previous upload.

Sounds like the google warning. I think it should go away.. The site shouldnt be flagged anymore, coz:
-
Can you describe the screen or send me a screenshot? Was it your own software or did the warning come from your browser? I'm certain that its more that the site was flagged rather than there being an existing security threat. While the site was down I spent a lot of time on it and I know how it works.
-
At some stage during the downtime some of our files were edited and subsequently the site got flagged. Google has reviewed us and removed the flag, and we have since moved hosts with original files, so you're pretty safe. Welcome back again everyone. What a nightmare. After successfully uploading the database for the second time to the 3rd sever in the last few weeks, this host had some kind of configuration issue which was causing a PHP variable to be set to nothing and thus none of our URL's actually worked. I was thrown off course by thinking it was an apache issue and spent all of yesterday failing miserably trying to figure out the issue, and finally today it took just 30minutes to find a solution using PHP :) I would have liked to have a nice new section up and running as an apology for the downtime, but it's taken so long to get the site back up that I will have to keep it a secret for about another week yet.
-
Well this is quite bad. It's very difficult working with such a large database. I thought all the data was here since the forums actually started working, but that's not the case. As for the speed, it's almost pointless having the forum up with it being so slow. I'll try to get all these things resolved as quickly as I can.. Yeah that issued is resolved now.

Hi guys, Apologies for the recent downtime. I think it was 9 days. We've had a tough time trying to get the forum back up and had to move our database over to a new server to get things working again. This alternative server is a temporary thing while I clean up the database. The transfer may have caused some data to be lost and some errors may pop up. If so feel free to report them here. Sometimes you will get those blank screens, sometimes it will be temporary (in which case its probably a lost connection and can be solved be refreshing the page) and other times there's an actual error, which is what we're looking to find. Right the site is loading really slow for me. Anyone else? Hopefully we won't have such a long period of downtime again, but it's likely there will be a bit more with this database work that needs to be done.

Ok we need to seriously be able report status updates.
Marked replied to Joey's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
Just report the profile. We don't really need a report status button since they are more out in the open so more likely to be seen be moderators. How often is it abused? Rarely. These bots where from that last attack, 17th-18th November who didn't do anything so we didn't spot them. There will be a few more still in our system that may or may not post something. The edit button error may be because the site itself is down, you know those random times when the page is blank? If that happens then you won't be able to edit your post, because it makes an ajax call which is like loading another page in the background so if the site is experiencing issues then it won't load. -
Yeah there's no option for that. I'm not sure if there needs to be. The original purpose for this particular part of the manger, the uploading, is to get urls to post on the site. If you've got imageshack then you've already got a url.
-
Yeah. I liked it at first. The reasons for it was that it doesn't quite fit with what I want to go for, I didn't want the place to look like a hobby website. It also required a huge image (meaning pages take longer to load, at least before caching) to stretch the width of large screens as well as use a parallax scroll, which gave me tons of problems because I couldn't get it to scroll the correct amount so I couldn't get the effect quite right. With an illustration I guess you get some people who like them and some who don't, its not as neutral as a pattern. I may use them as preset backgrounds in the customization settings. But that may some time away as I really gotta start making some content sections :)
-
Well my role these days is the technical guy :( The idea definitely requires some keen members to jump on board who are out and about in the gamedev community. And yup, news is definitely reserved for staff members. You know some great RM sites? I feel like there's more to the sentence :)
-
You could, I'm not sure I'd use it :P Thanks for the offer though, if you want to you can go a head and make it. Maybe we could use it for something.. refer below. I'm just messing around with stuff. I've gone off the idea of an enormous illustrated background. I had wanted to go simple and web app like without becoming too plain. I'm still playing around with layout ideas, and I probably will be for a while What I'm doing is looking for a default design. We will eventually be able to tweak a whole bunch of different layout elements, such as the background, typograpgy and colours. It's "Your GDU" :) I'm also planning a bunch of design variations so its more than changing colours and images, which is simple. I'm thinking of a bunch of different menu styles which will allow you to choose from a selection which actually changes the css, javascript and html.
