  1. I hate the RPG cliche list. Some of them are just stupid. Like a shop with chests behind the counter not getable, that's where the store items are. Cliche is a unique or new idea that is over used to the point its not original. Ideas that were never original can not be a cliche.

I couldn't say it any better than you did.

  2. '1812 overture' is almost 150 years old, but it's still my favorite music piece. The age of something shouldn't automatically take away from the consideration of quality. Some wines, drum symbols, and cheese all get better with age, one could argue so does art and music. If you want a more scary mimic battler, so be it, but that's not what you originally asked for. You asked "I have been looking for many places... but I want a battler of Mimic... the chest monster @_@ I thought there should be one some where but I can't find any...". So bigace told you about one, seems logical to me. As far as 'more scary' goes, could you be more specific, and I will try and make one for you.
  3. I want to give this a try, as I need a large dragon for my main project, and need the practice drawing. I have just been ultra busy filling out other requests. I am getting close to wrapping the other stuff up, so I just wanted to bump this to help remind me, and to ask you if you still needed more dragon variations. Also, I know you want variations, but did you also want color/pattern changes of the current one, because that I could do easy, where as a unique dragon look will be a bit more difficult. Let me know.
  4. Ok, so here is a mock up I have, of what I think will look good once detail is added etc. It's going to be a medallion or gold coin of sorts, with the elements as orbs mounted into it. If you have any suggestions on gems, or rubies, or maybe words to include as an inscription, now would be the time to suggest stuff that is lore related to your game. I will be more than happy to try and add something relative to the game for the detail on the coin/medallion. Here is the rough mock up. If you don't want words, then I was thinking just some raised random gold parts along the edges, maybe some generic symbols, plant type stuff. Let me know if you have any suggestions for the details on the coin/medallion, otherwise I will see where it takes me.
  5. Pictures are the hard part. There are literally millions of open source and free sound effects out there. Do some Googling. Here is a good reputable site with a nice license. http://www.audiomicr...l-sound-effects
  6. Awesome, congrats! Do you think you could post it here, and add (resolved) to thread name? That way if anyone stumbles across this and has the same problem they can easily have it solved too.
  7. So the problem is being cause by your abs system? Is this a known bug with the system? Maybe try getting a fresh version of the abs, possibly it's demo if any, recreate the scenario and see if it has the same issue. This will tell you if the script itself causes the problem, or if it is something that is changed in the one you are using, or some other conflict. If the issue is present in a fresh, unmodified demo version of the script, then it is for sure the script.
  8. Have you tried using Google Translate? It is difficult to understand you. I think you problem is you selected 'disallow' instead of on of the other options. Is the picture below what you are talking about?
  9. Finally realized why I can't see where my rep is coming from. No thread I have received reputation on is showing it (shows zeroes), but it shows on my profile.

Cool, I assume its because of the transfer over then. I also assume since it is tracking them, it will show once we swap to GDU. Thanks for posting.

  10. Which engine are you using? There are definitely lots of sprites out there already. I would suggest maybe taking a look around to see if you can find any Final Fantasy 7 sprites that already exist and maybe make a check list of what you need and what you have.
  11. Use GIMP, it is a free image manipulating program, that functions much like photoshop, it is an excellent program with many guides on how to use it. http://www.gimp.org/
  12. 'Simple' is a relative term based on the skill of the person saying it. I stand by the statement that if it was simple, someone would have solved it. I am only trying to think of a way to get you the help you need. I read your post and even if I knew how to solve it, I would still have to look through every script 4 times, 1 for each question. The post just seems confusing to me. I think that even pol would take an hour or more to solve all four problems, that doesn't seem simple to me. We have at least two skilled scripters who frequent and help on this site, neither has posted here, that should be a hint. I strongly suggest you divide the questions, or maybe wait till pol is free? I just hate to see a topic bumped this much without help, and am trying to ascertain why no one has come to your assistance.
  13. Agreed, portraits help, but are definitely not needed. Disgaea (a 2D turn based strategy RPG) has some of the best voice acting I have ever seen in a game. And has me enthralled when I play it, even though the on screen pictures/portraits only have mild animation, the acting is so well done, it makes you feel like you are there. I find myself listening more than watching during the cut scenes in that game for that very reason. I don't know if you have ever listened to a book on tape, or a radio play, but there are no pictures there, and it helps more than hinders. I believe his game only uses the voice for cut scenes, and not generic game play. I think it'll transfer well.
  14. I am not sure what to tell you. I want to help, but I lack the skills. The only thing I can suggest, is make 1 thread per problem. Not 4 threads at the same time or 1 thread with 4 questions. Each problem could take allot of back and forth to solve, and it's a little overwhelming as is. Focus on one problem, solve it, then post another. To be honest, I don't think any of what you are asking for is as simple as you think it is otherwise someone probably would have helped already.
  15. Most if not all Japanese RPGs from the bit era have been fan translated. That's more what I meant. As an example I played final fantasy five in English long before the north american release. My brother was telling my about a Japanese space opera he was playing recently for Snes, where he played as a small robot who learned using AI commands and had to explore a space ship while unfolding a drama that is happening to the human cast members, the game was originally in Japanese and was fan translated.
  16. Aye game shark* sorry thought it was Snes of a second. If you are max level, then I suggest saving and reloading, you can even bind a button to turbo, so you just hold the button to the left of the 1 key '~'(speeds up emulation in Zsnes) and hold whatever you programmed to turbo action button, with most games it should just load you right back into the game where you were in seconds(less than a battle), but your step count for random encounters is now zero. The only other thing I could think of is to use the 'blood' item to repel monsters you don't want to fight, if the battles are going to be long. Aye, remember to make your own save files too then, or save states, so you can go back to spots in the game that are one time, like cut scenes. I did find a save file after about ten minutes of searching, it's at lucifer which I can only assume is the last boss. I just found out that this game is apparently a spin off of the Megami Tensei series, of which I played Shin Megami Tensei, and it was amazing. Atlus rocks too, I actually think I am going to play this now and look for a translated version of the sequels, any idea if they exist yet?
  17. The only thing I could think of, is when you print screen and copy it together, pick one picture as your starter picture, and every one after that add it to a new layer. Once you have every photo needed, hide from view all layers except the first and second one, and line the second image to the first image. Unhide the third image, line it up, and continue until all are lined up. Using zoom in/out and never merging your layers until all lined up, should cut back on errors. When you are done, save it both as a merged picture file AND as a project file for the image program you use. Future screen captures can be appended to this project file without having to take all new pictures, just of the changed areas. Using the layers system you can edit and move them as needed, erase sections etc. It will of course still take tons of effort, but will reduce errors, and if you do make an error that slips by you, you can go back to the project file and fix it in seconds. Now that I think about it, wouldn't it just be easier to copy your map 3 times, then cut it into 3 maps that are 100x100 just for sake of the program working right, then combine the three images together?
  18. This sounds awesome. Well thought out and practical. I can hardly wait! Keep up the good work, and make sure to take it easy every once and a while!
  19. I think the element you are missing is the terrain tag? In the tileset section of your database you should see a terrain tag button on the lower right side. Using this you can set certain tiles on any map to trigger a specific terrain tag from 0-7. You can then tell a conditional branch to do something based on when that terrain tag is triggered. Using a common event, you should be able to set certain terrain to certain numbers, then have the common event act based on which number is currently active. Then you just remember which number does what (write it down), and put the correct number assigned to the correct tile. If some tiles will do it and some wont, just duplicate the tile on your tileset graphic, and use one for the terrain tag jump motion and the other for normal floor/non jump ledge etc. Remembering that anything that is set to 0 should be considered as 'normal', so you only need duplicate tiles if you plan to use the same tile without jumping. For multiple maps where the terrain tags do something different, have the entire common event controlled by a switch which turns on when in a/the correct jumping map. Make a new common event and new switch for each map that has different jumping parameters if any. I believe this would fill your need?
  20. Hmm, are you emulating? If so, have you considered using game genie cheats? I can't say for certain but there has got to be some way turn of the fights with game genie, maybe through a walk through walls code. If you aren't emulating, then you should try. If you are, have you looked for any save files? You may be able to find a save file with a game maxed out and have the majority of the game unlocked and have the random encounters easy to win. For referencing games, using others save files is super handy. Worst case scenario, most old school rpgs run their encounters off of number of steps. If you are emulating, figure out roughly how many until random encounter then save every X steps and reload the game(takes seconds in emulation, use the speed up button to hasten loading screens), this should prevent random battles. It's like when I played SNES and I knew if I got to and from every door as quick as possible I wouldn't get as many, if any battles but I never knew why until I started making games.
  21. I sent you a PM explaining how to make a new thread.
  22. Yup, might be a week or so before it's complete, haven't started yet.
  23. Learning scripting is essentially the same as learning eventing, in a sense. Your first step would be to learn the language, then learn the methods. I have heard that the eventing skills will directly translate as you will be achieving the same things, just with scripts. I would think that it should be easy to use a tile system since the game is already based on a 32x32 tile system, although I don't know if the pixel movement script effects this. From what you are saying it seems like you have things well underhand, by best advice would be to keep trial and erroring, that is the best way I have found to learn the eventing system. Seems like you have things under control.
  24. She was probably embarrassed, and appreciated it none the less.
  25. Looks neat. I like the bug enemy with the armor. This looks like it would be fun to play. Keep developing this. Cheers!
