That could work out well. I seen it in many RPG's before so why not go for it. Make sure to give the player the option to let them join after the mini quest because some players might want to do the quest and not want the character(roleplaying reasons).

Who let that unicorn in here? ...Oh wait thats just the wind blowing against my face. IDK if im really crazy but that cow is honking at me to get out of the road and i think theres a person inside of it. To answer your question im not crazy but im being crazy by saying yes mwahahaha. Sometimes i like to talk to my floor and tell it that the walls are plotting to kill it by falling down. Whenever i breathe i can hear the air crying and yelling save me.

Its put on hold for now while i finish up Mine Clicker. Learned alot since i worked on this last. I was also working on a random item system where when you gain an item it will have random parts added to it(visually and stats). Ill also plan on making a complete custom weapon creation system where you can forge parts with various materials and combine whatever you want into whatever your making.

NEW RPG MAKER: RPG Maker MV Announced by Famitsu
Polraudio replied to kaboth's topic in Engine Discussion
With scripting you can do anything. You could even make 1 enemy and 1 character turn based and the rest action based if you really wanted. Could even make a text based battle system where you type "attack enemy1" XD. Any feature you see can be scripted but yea the defaults are what makes things cool. I might even dabble into the battle system and try to make some cool edits. -
NEW RPG MAKER: RPG Maker MV Announced by Famitsu
Polraudio replied to kaboth's topic in Engine Discussion
Hard to say what it really is since theres not much information on it. Will have to wait till the mag comes out on sunday for more information. Multi-device support. - I like Side-view battles added. - I like(deosnt really matter cause i could just code my own) Support for both touch controls and mouse controls. - I do really like this. Can finally get away from the uber annoying up, down, left, and right movements and action based rpg's will actually be playable. I hope that means custom controls also because nothing beats WASD. Big increase on the limit of database items. - I like(but doesnt matter as i could just code my own database and have unlimited everything) Maps are automatically three-layered. - Hate it and want manual like XP has. Hate when stuff does stuff automaticly. Makes it hard to do what i want sometimes. Games run in high resolution. - I like but i want details. Is it custom or still crappy fixed. Thoughts: At least its an improvement. Real game development should still be done in unity or unreal. Ill have to wait for the release in order to give it a review. That image is so low quality that i cant tell what the graphics are like. Its looking a little mehchibi. EDIT: looked at the screenshot a little harder and it looks like you get to choose what battle system you want. -
SPOILERS DUHHH! The only one i can think of is. Video Game: Kefka Kefka has done what other villans have not done. He actually took over the world. Thats right a villan that has actually won. Kefka is evil in every possible way... even his iconic laugh is evil. Everyone thinks Sephiroth is this big bad villan. The truth is those people never played a FF game before 7 and Sephirots kill count is very very low compared to Kefka, infact Sephiroth hasnt really killed that many people and only tried to destroy the world and failed at it where Kefka actually pulled it off. To top it off he actually became a god(not really but thats what im calling it). If Kefka really wanted to i bet he could have stopped you before you even got close to his floating continent just by using the light of judgment on your airship. But lets be real here, Kefka prob wanted you to come to him so he could kill you slowly and watch you suffer while he pulls your head off of your body and plays kickball with it. Sephiroth Kill Count = prob 20ish. Kefka Kill Count = prob in the range of 20,000-100,000 or more since he did take over the world afterall and kill all those who oppose him. Out of all the games i ever played id say Kefka is the ultimate villan who lets nothing stand in his way. He doest care if you are his wife, mother, sister or his own self. He will kill you one way or another...very slowly. If Kefka and Sephiroth ever got into a battle id say Sephiroth would prob win but Kefka is still way more evil.

How important are custom graphics?
Polraudio replied to FranklinX's topic in General Game Development
For a free hobby game like what is mostly made with rpg make its fine. But for a game that is going to sell copies you need to have custom graphics otherwise people are just going to look at the game and say meh its like every rpg maker game ever without even giving it a go. If your game is free then dont worry about graphics and just enjoy making the game you wanted to make. If your game is commercial then yes you will need custom graphics or at least edit the RTP so much that it doesnt really feel like every other game out there. When i look to play an rpg maker game i first look at the graphics. If theres custom graphics and it matched then i know the player put alot of time into it and the game will most likely be a good play. If the game has the RTP graphics i look at it a little more to see if they actually put effort into it. most of the time i look at games that use RTP and say meh(even with my own games). In the end if you are serious about game development and want to make something for people to remember stay away from RTP graphics(enviroment is fine but at least make a few edits). If you are not really serious about game development and just do it as a hobby then feel free to use whatever makes you happy. -
I was in the proccess of making a topic like this before my computers watercooling took a shit and completely destroyed my $2000+ desktop. Now im on a shitty laptop that can barely play minesweeper. Consumer Standpoint: Piracy is a touchy subject. Theres not really an ok time to pirate something. This brings up my Dear Devs; Demos topic. I have pirated games in the past but it was only becasue i didnt know if it would run on my computer or if id like it. But that was all becasue the games didnt even have a demo. EX: I pirated skyrim because i couldnt afford it and i was unsure if it would run. I enjoyed the game so much that i actually bought it. Same with saints row 3, pirated it, liked it, then bought it. If all these games offered demos piracy wouldnt even cross my mind. Was it ok to pirate those games? Not it wasnt ok in any way but they left me with no choice because they failed to offer a demo. And no one wants to go through the painful refund proccess if they buy the game and dont like it. The ONLY time i find piracy fine is for very old stuff that you can no longer buy from the maker and can only buy from other people. EX: Older games. That was a consumer standpoint so ill go through a developers standpoint since i have a commercial product on the market Developer Standpoint: As a developer i should really care about piracy but i dont becasue it hinders sales.... or does it? In reality piracy doesnt hinder sales becasue if someone doesnt want to pay for the game of if they cannot they wont. So in the end your not losing anything at all. Sure if people have the money and still pirate the game that most likely means you dont have a demo or the game isnt worth the money to them. Either way your not losing out on money. As a dev i see demos as the best way to let people decide if your game is worth buying or not. It also depends on the market. you may think your game is being pirated but in reality it prob becasue you are poor at advertising or the market is not good for your game. But it shouldnt stop you from trying to push that game out to make it apart of the current market. Im doing a gaming first by making a commercial clicker game(Mobile games dont count). Im trying to take clicker games to the next level and show people that clicker games can be more than a game about clicking and that theres a market for such game. In the end piracy doesnt bother me much. As long as people are playing my game and enjoying themselves im happy. If people are willing to buy the game to support me then it makes me even more happy. Everytime i get a sale i get alot more motivated to work on the game even more. Final Thoughts: Is piracy a bad thing? Well piracy isnt bad and it isnt good. In the end its all about if its worth it or not. Some programs have DRM that make it very annoying for mainly the legit buyers. EX: I bought watchdogs before release day and was unable to play it for about 2 days after release even knowing i had it downloaded already. The damn login servers were down for uplay. I bought the game on steam but it required uplay. The game required me to have it on steam to launch uplay to launch it on steam again. So it had sort of tripple DRM. My friend pirated it the same day it came out and was playing like nothing to it while i was still fighting with uplay to even get to play the game. 4 things determine if someone pirates something and most of it can be prevented with a demo. Not having a demo. People will pirate games becasue they cannot try the game out first. DRM. People will pirate a game becasue the legit way is super annoying(yes im looking at you ubisoft). Unsure about quality. If you fail to make a demo or a decent enough demo people might still pirate it just to try it out. Lack of money or just a pure pirate. Some people just wont buy a game at all or lack the money to buy the game. Most pirates are people that lack money so they pirate games. Some get into the habbit so much that they pirate games no matter what. Most people are willing to buy something if they have the money(i know from experience). In the end piracy isnt really a bad thing but you should REALLY consider supporting the developer who makes the stuff you might enjoy. If you dont support the developers they might not be around much longer to make the stuff you enjoy. It really means alot to us devs. Hell if you pirate my game and can only afford a few pennies send it my way and ill forgive you for pirating my game and might be kind enough to send you a full copy when you send at least 50% of games cost. Ill even work with you and do payments if possible. I may even do GDU points...but marked needs to work on a system to make them worth money and not really easy to get. I can see the site getting popular enough if people create quality games and sell them for GDU points. Could also sell GDU points for irl $(could even setup a market where people could sell GDU points for money to other people). This place could turn into an indie dev place to get your foot in the door for selling games.

Sometimes people dont realize how much time gets put into games. I just spent 3 hours entering information into lists and im not even done lol.

90% of that is code lol. 90% of videogames is code. Must be at least 50,000+ lines of code in total across 3 game modes. Making a game is not as point and click as it may seem lol. Infact the only thing that isnt code is the environment. Even that has to be coded in order to interact with it.

Discussion - Games Section Quality Control
Polraudio replied to Marked's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
I personally like the idea. Im for the demo idea but i think it should be optional. Not every game can have a demo or want to make a demo. I think if they have enough content already for people to get the idea across it should be good enough. EX: What if Todd Howard wanted to make a game page for Fallout 4. We would have to say no to this awesome guy becasue he doesnt have a demo. I think we should require at least 2 screenshots with gameplay in them like the battle system, menu, etc... At least 6 Screenshots(2 gameplay, and 4 other) -
Moving this to the spam form since its more like that. Heres a glitch me and my friends found when playing arma 3 life. He should be able to drive like that.

Try not to use such bright cartoony looking colors for the sprite, it doesnt fit your near realistic style of map. Map looks good but the sprite doesnt fit.

I figured I might start a series of dear devs topics. What is dear devs? Dear devs is a series where i find problems in game development that devs should consider doing to make it easier for the consumer. Dear Devs: I noticed lots of games don't do the whole demo thing enough. Sure it takes a while to make a demo and sometimes its just not very good to do because you may not want to spoil any of the game. But it shouldn't stop you from making a demo or something like a demo. A demo can do a few good things for your product that i will list below. A demo allows people to play the game before they buy it(lowering piracy a little). Id suggest doing a little of the intro of the game and leave it off on a cliffhanger that way people will buy the game to wonder what happens next. A demo also lets people test how a game will run on their systems before buying the game. This is really important when it comes down to people who don't know much about specs. You will be very surprised with how many people don't know about specs but do gaming on a computer. What do you do if you don't want to make a demo because it might spoil to much of the game? Well theres one thing you can do that will make people happy. You can make a sort of benchmark type demo and allow them full access to the games graphical settings. This will make it so people can see if the game will run for them or not before wasting your time by returning the product if it doesn't run for them. this can ultimately save you money and make you money also. Theres a few reason people will pirate games and one of those reasons is because theres no demo for the game and people will want to try the game. Sometimes they will get so hooked into the game that they will just stick with the pirate copy because the file size is so large and not even think of buying it(i pirated a few games in my time so this is from personal experience). Some games that are good may get pirates to buy them if they like it enough. All this can be mostly avoided by having a demo. Moral of the story is have a demo. A demo wont hurt anyone and will make alot of people happy because sometimes listed specs are not always accurate because hardware is so diverse with PC. --- Hope you enjoyed the first in the dear devs series. If you liked it please post what you thought and maybe start a discussion.

Welkome to da site man.
