Thanks for the welcome back everyone and the updates too :) Glad to see most of you have been constructive while I was away. By the way Joey, I live in the pacific somewhere. Near Australia. It's spring at the moment, so its warm. I classify the seasons as warm or cold, summer or winter :P @Kiriashi: Nice job on being the first member to reach 2K. Very impressive. I'm about to create a module that shows members with the most amount of points on the website, although I will take it down if its identical to the top posters module. At least I'm sure it will change over time with members falling inactive. Oh, btw Nisage, I updated the member of the month page. You're in the lead with 3 wins, followed by Polraudio with 2. You can ards system soon which will display your awards in your prsee on the homepage if you haven't already. I'm also going to add an awofile and on the awards page. EDIT: Took me a couple of minutes to create the points module. I must be getting good at php or something :P It's interesting. The points rankings are way different from the top posters, though only implemented in August I think it was. I think I'll keep it there and make points information page on the website too. And I'll also be editing the system to make it harder to get to that 10 point post.

Actually Pol, 24% of visitors come here using IE, according to the stats. Which is actually surprisingly low. However inaccurate the stats are though it is certain a substantial amount of users use IE and the forum and site must be compatible with it. Unfortunately Tom I'm really unsure about this error. It seems like a software error to me. I'm using firefox so I haven't experienced it. I have an idea however. I'm going to PM you about it.

I removed the skin changer, so you cannot select a skin. I updated everyones skin choice, see it now?

Hey everyone :) I'm only about 5 hours out of the exam room and free for the summer. All 3 months of it :D So, whats been happening while I've been gone? I did check back every so often, though I'm sure I missed a bit. I'd like to thank Polraudio, Wyzrd and Isaacsol for stepping in as administrators in my absence. You guys will now go back to your normal moderation positions. Thanks a lot guys. I see a couple of original RMXPU members have vanished in my absence too... Leon and Wyzrd, and of course Arkbennett. It had to happen i guess, those guys had been here from the start. I suppose then its fair to say RMXPUnlimited is entering into a new era... I also see that Zane is here? Its about time you joined my forum :P Zane's forum used to be the place I went to back in the day during my highschool exams, and I thought that was a particularly nice and well managed forum. I'll fill you guys in on all the RMXPUnlimited stuff that I got planned soon. I'm going to make a topic titled RMXPUnlimited in 2010, after the latest announcement dies down.

Hey everyone, I'm pleased to announce my return and the first of the updates which will complete our transition to the upgrade. Classic RMXP Unlimited The trademark skin of RMXP Unlimited is back! However first of all let me tell you that it is not finished, though close, and I will be working to finish it over the next few days. Hopefully you guys will give me some criticism and point out the flaws, and I'll go fix 'em up. The skin was made starting with the original skin that comes with the software. I started it 4 days, learning a bit of CSS in the process. So I really hope you guys like it and are happy with it. The parts most in need of attention are the profiles and topic view(what you're looking at now). To create this, I resurrected an old backup from '07 which had this skin, and got to work on the reconstruction. The menu system hopefully, for those who remember the old one, looks a bit better. The icons are properly indented and even better I discovered a method of sprites. That means, every icon in that menu comes from 1 image. If you get the chance you will see the icons suddenly appear at once. That's irrelevant to the topic, I just thought that was cool  The menu may look plain at the moment in terms of content, or options, but it will certainty develop over time, epically in the next few weeks I would think. It also may seem very repetitive, identical RMXP and RMVX section as well as identical links in the bar below, but this is on purpose and for the sake of shortening the topic, I'll leave it at that. There's also a hint of RPG Maker around the place. I used some RMVX icons for some things, but I dont know how great it looks. What do you guys think? Can you even spot them? SEO Overhaul SEO stands for search engine optimization, and to simplify it further, it means being friendly with google. The impact of this on RMXP Unlimited is that URLs have changed, both on the site and forum. Now, I'm not a big a fan of forum friendly URLs(which for example would change index.php?showuser=1 into index.php/user/1-marked/), however apparently the do help with SEO. Which of course means more traffic. The friendly URLs on the forum are an experiment. After enabling and testing them about 10minutes ago I did run into a few issues with the breadcrumbs and 404 pages. So, we'll see. I'll need your feedback to decide whether to keep the friendly URLs or revert back. Similarly the websites URLs have changed, and unlike the forums the old URLs will bring up 404 pages. This will surely have a negative effect with the website having an enormous impact on traffic coming through via search engines, but in the long term I am sure this will prove beneficial. We were already using friendly URLs on the website, but the new system is way more friendly and just looks good(as far as text in the url bar goes :P ). It has changed, for example, the RPG Maker XP homepage from index.php/rmxp.html to /rmxp. How friendly is that? That's it in terms of SEO. The rest will be backend stuff, and google'll never want to leave. Ever. Well that's it for now. More announcements to come in the very near future... :) Updates Log This is just a log of minor updates that may or may not worth announcing... -Avatar upload limit increased to 500kb -Global Upload Space increased to 5mb -Personal Photo size limit increased to 500kb -Max number of storable messages increased to 1000 -Created a 'Top Points' module for the homepage -Fixed images in blogs, gallery and downloads manager -Fixed signatures stretching the forum - thanks to Tomo2000 -Increased topic-view width & author info bar styling (unfinished)

Wyzrd and polraudo and now your new administrators. The reason is that I'm going on a little vacation until the end of the year, and I have promoted wyzrd and polraudio to replace me while I am gone. Emily of course is still the head admin, but wyzrd and polraudio are there to help out as well. The reason im leaving, if it isnt immediately obvious, is to successfully finish my year at university. This is sort of my last chance and in my degree they only let 200 students get in to 2nd year. Leaving here hasn't really helped a great deal in the past, even I'll admit I am a bit lazy, but I think its something that I need to do. Another thing is, this doesn't entirely feel like rmxp unlimited anymore. We've always struggled for active members, ok, but we always had a close bunch and it was fun. Nowadays Im not so involved within the community, and as new members come in and old ones leave, well, im losing incentive to improve this place which clearly has a lot of room for improvement. However, don't take this as me running away. I just need a nice long break, read a few text books, sit exams, cry over results... and i'll be back before you know it :) November 10th is the day of my last exam. Wish me luck, I'm about to quash 2 years worth of bad habits... Goodluck everyone, I'll see you all real soon!

Zeriab, you're the master :P I only recently figured out how to use autorun in cutscenes... embarrassingly... @CrimsonInferno: The link I posted has most of what you will see in a cutscene.. it is not encrypted and you could see how to do it. Thats why i posted it. We could make a tutorial for you... but a lot of it is just learning the event commands.
-
Indeed. I'll add a link. The rep system also has its own ranks. As you can see in polraudios screenshot of Wyzrd's profile, his rank is "Neutral". The ranks(may change) are: Bad -20 Poor -10 Neutral 0 Good 10 Excellent 20 However, Bad and Poor are impossible to get. To keep RMXP Unlimited's "friendly" reputation, I have disabled the negative button. So it is only possible to give members positive reputation points.

Sure this is spam? Well. We do have a downloads manager and a section for uploading games. But. No one uploads games these days. Heck, is anyone even making games anymore? It's nothing like the days of '07. In fact, with the rmvx site competing on even grounds with the most popular rmxp site, perhaps we should transition into a more rmvx-orientated site. Anyway, the downloads manager has a raging system, 1-5, and a comments system. Oh, and your post sounds pretty much like a reviews system. Which I MAY be working on, if Arky would ever come back. I like those rating images though.
-
I agree. I really hope we can give this system more functions, even like a rmxp unlimited currency, including services from members. Perhaps we should have a place to show off services for those who are willing? That's not exactly what I call an error. There are random errors that occur, keyword being random. They may or may not be related to rmxp unlimited. Everyone seems skeptical of the tracker so far... it can be used for any kind of project though. I hope to have my script submission component in there when i have time to finish it. But if you see something wrong, no harm in using the tracker. Perhaps. Spam goes both ways, either too short or way too long. That's what the min/max points are for. I wouldnt call the points a measure of the quality of posts a member makes, even though they're based off the length of their posts. For example, points may be an incentive to make more spam-like posts by either posting more, or more pointless information in each post. But I dont think the points will influence anyone on their posts on this forum. That's awfully observant of you Wyzrd. :P I was meaning to get rid of it when i was working on the header. 'tis gone now.

Points System http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/index.php?app=points The points system is back, but this time it's a little different. The points system works like this: For every character in your post, you get 0.01149 points. In other words, "characters in post x 0.001149". The minimum points per post you can get is 1, the maximum is 10. So for a one-worder, you'll 1 point, for an essay you'll get 10. To work out the "weight" of the points I found a post that I thought would be worth about 2 points, so I divided 2 by the characters. I think that the short-posters will benefit most from this weight, you don't have to type that much to achieve 10. EDIT: yeah, this topic was an easy 10 points...I'll see how things go and may decrease the weight a little. Tracker http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/index.php?app=tracker This is an idea of mine. For those who didn't stop reading at the last sentence: this is for reporting bugs around the forum, things that need changing and fixing. We'll try it out, hopefully it will work to the forums benefit. We'll see. The Rest... I've given the header a bit of a re-working. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to have all your mods show up in a long line, there is obviously not going to be enough room. So I added in a little bar like before below the main bar, so we can have a lot more links. On that main bar is a "New Posts" button for you lazy members who don't want to read the board index. Admittedly the forum structure isn't the most user-friendly out there, and this should make it easier to find the new posts. The downloads manager works again. No one could download anything before. After an hour of working on it, I just googled it. That worked. More updates to come :)

looks like shit... sounds like all you need is practice  The last game I worked on only got as far as a cutscene, perhaps you could use events from it: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=142 It's basically a whole lot of timing. You dont actually push a button through the whole thing, all the windows auto close.
-
By face and body, you just mean an image right? We have two message system scripts: http://rmxpunlimited.net/index.php/rmxp/rgss1-scripts/category/message-systems.html Assuming you work in XP. That really sounds like you're saying we dont like helping people.

Lockerbie Bomber Released From Prison
Marked replied to Wyzrd's topic in Debate and Mature Discussion
I completely agree with you wzyrd, This is ridiculous. Not only was he allowed to go home for his death, he received a huge welcome and cheers(it was also in the news here). The fact that this man has been released from his conviction for killing 270 people to die in the comfort of his home-land is an outrage, even for me who is a million miles away from any terrorism. I believe in an eye for eye. This man killed 270 people, so what is justice in this case? Hopefully his cancer will cause unimaginable pain and he suffers every day he is alive for all the families he has destroyed. -
Thats good to know, but I find that most will skip over it and ignore you completely. I dont necessarily agree that length shows intelligence though, but its true in some cases. I never thought about commercial advantage. They do teach us in economics to assume business entities' primary goal is to generate profit. I actually should not have made my last post because it is, in a way, off topic. We have to ignore parliamentary purpose and assume it is the same purpose as restricting something like alcohol(which is 18 here, i think it used to be 21 at one stage). So the question is, does the punishment fit the crime?

The site should not affect the forum at all. Since this upgrade broke the bridge, the only connection between the two is that they are on the same database. There should also be now errors, this was a clean, default upgrade. Leon, lets test the skin. I'll enable you to choose the default skin at the bottom of the forum and you can see if there's a difference.
-
That's right. I had planned it for some time.
-
Well Nisage, I'm going to install a chatroom and a hook(the little boxes on the right on the board index) which shows who's chatting. Should be nice. I also forgot to answer your earlier question. I set birthdays to show up only on the day there are some. When there are not, like today, the box disappears. Would you prefer to have it always shown like before?
-
My vote was a really tough choice. Goodluck nominees!
-
hmm... I am going to update the forum descriptions soon...
-
ok poll's up, go vote! @ Nisage: I have to work on the links, I'll get the link up. Its on the homepage also. Does anyone use it anymore though?
-
Wow, I cant believe how many posts are in this topic. I'll try to answer all the questions as the appear in the topic. @CrimsonInferno: The error in your profile(and all the rest) is the custom profile fields, the box does not extend over it. I knew of this before the upgrade, I'll find a way to fix it, nothing major im sure. @spoiler people: I dont know how spoilers suddenly worked. The spoilers before were custom bbcode, perhaps the got replaced with this verisions default. Either way I like the ones we had before where you can have a title, so i'll change them. As for having to make them again, you shouldnt, I rebuilt all the signatures and everything else possible. Oh, its different BBCode, so that explains it. @Chief: yes, IPB @CrimsonInferno2: No we wont be switching back. I backed up the database before the upgrade, but I dont think I can downgrade. The database tables have been changed dramatically and its not a matter of switching back to the other files. Because of the database change, I assumed there would be lag. Which seems to be the case so far. @Nisage(regarding "view new posts"): I see you found the alternative ways of viewing that. Even for me that was how I saw all the new posts, and I assume barely anyone ever finds topics on the board view. Actually, I think we need to compact our forum structure again. But anyway, that was a mod called board panel, a real favorite among IPB's, the author doesnt make mods anymore but I think i saw a fix for this version and hopefully i'll get it back. I am going to add a poll for this skin and whether to have it as the final skin. There's a lot of images missing that I'll have to add in, if we keep it.

Well, go to the RPG Maker XP help file(help -> contents), under RPG Maker XP, select Battle Formulas. I was going to post it here but it's rather complicated. The helpfile is so underrated. I'm pretty sure these can be changed in the scripts editor.

Hey everyone, Welcome to the new RMXP Unlimited. The forum has been upgraded and been reskinned, something that has not happened in about a year and a half. This upgrade has been some time in the making, and rather tricky to achieve with our more-than-faulty database. However things went fine, thankfully, because I did not have backup plan if it didn't work. With this upgrade I am hopeful that our database is back up to standard, meaning no more lag. I hope everyone likes the new features, there's a ton. But I have a large feeling that errors and bugs will outweigh new features, until I get to them at least. I would like everyone to report any errors/bugs/anything out the ordinary either in this topic or in a PM to me. The skin is a temporary one. However, would you guys like it permanently? Also the bridge between website and forum has been broken. I will attempt a re-bridge once we need it. At the moment there is no account-orientated features of the website. Feel free to bombard this topic with errors, lets get this upgrade completed.
