  1. It wouldn't have happened if you didn't request it ;) I'm not sure what you mean by era but the path we're heading down was always the plan I had for GDU. GDU->RMU was a mere rebranding of course. I could turn things back in an instant, it's just really unfortunate how the site lost its regular members over the christmas period. But yes, the future of the site is clear and personally I am looking forward it :)
  2. -I created the company website at my job. When I do a single edit to a file, it will save locally to my computer, immediately upload live to the server, then it will upload to dropbox and then it will be downloaded onto my other computer. Meaning a single save will actually save to 4 different locations. -I have 2 pet fish: a black and a white axolotl
  3. This entry is about new changes made recently on RMU. First up, the color changer. but I've added a new theme (at ShinGamix's request) and I decided I liked it. Thus I've decided to make it the default over the green to hopefully make it more appealing. Theme's only take minutes to create as I've just changing a few values and a few images. If you guys have any requests I may be willing to make it for you. I do plan on making things more customizable, but I won't be doing too much until I get the site cleaned up. I want some basic things like website width, background uploader (as in your own backgrounds). I also want to lock these things and make them purchasable via points  Next up is what I call the new stuff rotator. This will flip through the newest script, project topic, gallery upload and tutorial. And of course the latest announcement will be shown at the side too. I'm thinking of adding a middle button between the arrows there with a downward arrow. It would load say the first 5 recent items or something like that. Next is the engine links: Now I know these very links are in the sub menu just above, but they're not obvious enough. And we all how n00b newbies are, so this is just some n00b-proofin' Is anyone wondering what happened with the VX forums? Say goodbye to VX! Well not entirely. It's a lower version of Ace and there's no point in keeping the forums around. However, all the content will still be around. We'll still have a engine page, scripts and tuts that people have posted etc. But things like the forums (minus the support) will be gone and the link in the main menu. This is good measure of comparison in relation to pageviews for our engine pages. Wow I've been busy today. I also finished moving all the VX tuts to the tut system: http://www.gdunlimited.net/tutorials/category/rpg-maker-vx I cringe to think about how many hours it will take me to do the rest  But it's worth it, coz pplz are on their way and we gotta look presentable
  4. I've added a grey/blue one for you. The colored ones are rather bright... perhaps too much of the main color. I think the grey/blue is best... perhaps it should be the default colour for our guests? The cog isn't loading for me as the page takes forever to load when I view topics, it stops before the cog is loaded. So go to index or another page and you should see it. I'm planning to :) The location isn't so simple... I could put it in the top bar. The main issue is IPB's own settings and then the ones which I code which are completely separate.
  5. Sick of green? I've just got through creating a colour changer for the site. You can now chose between red and blue. To do so, there's a cheeky little cog at the top-right of the site. This is where numerous other customization features for the layout shall be found, once they are created of course. I've had this idea of attaching cogs to things that are customizable around RMU. I really wanted to the site to be customizable and various options available to suit your style and change things up once in a while. But we'll see. You may also notice an extra part to the footer Just for the lulz, playing around with things Oh and I'll probably create options for custom layout width too for you larger-screened folks.

NICE!. remindes me of the time i did a 1 page paper about what i liked about a book i didnt read in 10min before class and got a B.

  7. Cool but not overly useful. It would be a bit of waste of time to do it before the activity boost.
  8. Ohhai, I'm not sure if all you guys will get this - those with programming experience will. I found the gifs matched with the titles 1-8 hilarious. Sharin' the lolz: http://net.tutsplus.com/articles/general/the-11-phases-of-a-web-developers-career-as-illustrated-by-memes/
  9. Technically, because it's a catch-all. What doesn't fit goes in here. I had a similar idea to this of having "skills" forums, such as: Programming, Spriting, Animated, Level/Map Design, etc. What you have to think about is what the forum is going to be called and what subject matter it's going to cover; so dividing into skills may be too specific and not many members will use them. On the other hand, "Ideas forum" is an ambiguous name and you have to take into account the proportion of our visitors that are either lazy or stupid (no offense guest reading this). The skills forums would incorporate both ideas and feedback on WIPs. So yeah I like the idea of doing this in some form or another. We gotta decided to maximize it's usability. Hopefully it will inspire the use of the tutorials system. It's a great way to see what people are trying to learn.

Lol I need a break. You gotta relax when the time gets close and not try to squeeze in anything additional.

My notes for this test, which is covers 5 weeks of lectures, was 53 pages :P Takes a very long to read let alone memorize.

The test went pretty well btw :) Got another wednesday.

  11. This is feedback for the top bar. Please vote so I will know what you guys want to improve usability. There's a ton of things I can do with it including shoving out all the current options under the username (this option is in the poll) and then having the main appear options once you scroll past the main menu. I really like the idea of having a vetical menu, as was in the original GDU design concept. It would depend on the screen resolution though. These days most of us have screens well above 960px which opens up some options, eg http://www.yootheme.com/demo/themes/joomla/2013/pace/index.php?profile=default Let me know your ideas and feedback below
  12. *facepalm* You're silly Shin. Closin' teh topic.
  13. Not really... the count starts at the start of the day so the first person to post is always gets 100%. Now its this I've been here 4 years longer than the other posters today :P
  14. Na uh... Chigoo published this and diagostimo contributed this and this. Increasing activity is an consequential goal of mine (of course)... I've got plans upon plans, of course though my hands are tied right now I'm studying all day long... but 6 days I'll be back. I'm quite worried that our active members now will leave because of the lack of things to do on the forums. But I'd encourage you guys to stay... lets consider this a transitional stage.
  15. I said a lot of things in that post lol I was mad procrastinating. But yeah, I'm not questioning your loyalty and when I say loyalty I don't mean it in the sense of going to competing websites, but just sticking around and being active. Like retaining members. Of course your loyalty is here. If it weren't... I'd find you...
  16. Interestingly, I do track "active" users. I shouldn't read too much into my graphs, but.. Since that 2 week downtime, the number of visits by our active users haven't really been the same. It's tempting to say there's a lack of loyalty. But I don't think that and I can understand that the most loyal of members, which we once had, have left. I consider the site incomplete and messy and as I stated above, I do plan to fix it. Furthermore the most loyal members have been here for AGES; they've got to retire sometime. We have a big lack of in-betweeners, members who stay here for several months. Right now its members who've been here for years, and members who have been here for Regardless of the state of the community, the site is getting as healthy numbers of visitors as ever. If I were a blog owner, I'd be pretty happy. That may be reaching a bit far though, of course I'm not happy. The community is obviously very important and its important we get knowledgeable, skilled game devs on the staff with expertise over a number of engines. I think the days of RMXP are coming to an end, and I say that because of the numbers. I guess a lot of members here were always against anything VX and that's the site we became after VX. But the numbers are saying, even for a site with a ton of XP content compared to anything else, that Ace is beating XP on the numbers; that's just how the market is. Either which way, there's plenty of ways to make games. I find making websites fun, and I strongly believe we'll have the best features of any game dev site out there. (eventually :P) I'm really wanting to try out a color changer in terms of skin. So you've got the green, imagine blue, red, orange, etc. one click away. I always get nice ideas when my most important assessments are right around the corner >.
  17. Did you do all that in an afternoon D: Looks good and I like the concept, its a nice start.
  18. ...or post it, coz sharing is caring. ;)
  19. Great job Noob, these can be illusive and I know they're still in demand. We still got a few uploaded in the gallery. What do you think about having a category by itself in the gallery for the Naruama resources? I'm thinking about what the best to way to include resources packs might be...hmm...
  20. i thought the typing on his own was pretty awesome. Futuristic
  21. This looks pretty cool. Seems similar to what smart phones have now, just bunched together and using predictive text. But they seem to be taking it a step further and using it to type outside of the screen... check out the video.

It looks like the theme was cached when it was GDU but in actual fact the entire thing is cached, and only looks like the site now because of those ajax calls for recent posts, etc. made it look like there were posts from today and thus look like the site now, with the old theme. But its nawt. It's enlarged because when I loaded up opera it loaded the site with the old CSS from when I had last had opera open, obviously some time ago.
