for some odd reason the avatars don't load correctly, but perfectly on the test server. That's so damn annoying...

  2. I am indeed :) I've got some nice plans for this chat too - I want it to be one of the fasted chat systems with member integration and bbcode loaded from a database, but at the moment this is just the base functionality. With regards to the GDU forums, I don't really want to mention this in case something comes up (like i forget to study for my mid-term in 2 weeks) but I'm planning to get testers onto it within the week and then hopefully open them by start of September. And of course I remember our deal, you'll be getting the PM once testing starts.
  3. UPDATE http://www.gdunlimited.net/chat I noticed during several updates to GDU I accidentally broke the chat system. I actually had changed the way CSS was delivered to the browser so the CSS file for the chat wasn't being loaded. Actually a lot has changed since I first wrote this chat system and since I've made a bunch of updates. Here's the main 3 -Added sounds for new messages, leaving and entering chat -A new time system that updates live every minute (go and make a message and just stare for like a minute) -Waaay faster. I updated the ajax system to load the bare minimum of requirements and it loads way quicker than before To do list: -enable bbcode (i disabled it for now for speed purposes, but I've got a workaround to keep speed and use all forum bbcode) -a light box -make all links open a new window -show previous messages upon first login (maybe. It may be better for speed to just not do this) -sessions for members so that when you refresh the page you don't have to login again (you dont login automatically anymore - i think this caused issues) -fix the issue of two of the same users. Happens when ever you open a new window. So yeah... continue the bug reports that arn't already on the to-do list Also, this is just an update of progress, its not finished or anything and there's a bunch of design stuff that's off. It's functional again so I'm posting this now, but much more to do.
  4. Updated the GDU membermap http://www.gdunlimited.net/membermap (all you guys can login and submit a marker at gdu, but you cant view much else)

  5. Finally got my XAMPP (what I use to build gdu) working on my laptop again. Phew.

  6. It's not fast at all, I've been busy with uni. My activity dips when I have assignments lol I haven't found out yet but I believe its just a skin issue. There's no database transferring. The database is in one location and both websites connect to it. Like I said the issue is really strange and I'm curious to see what happened here. EDIT: It's fixed? I can't tell exactly what the issue was, its quite complex what I'm doing with the skins. But it did happen coz I was testing the GDU theme, which of course is stored in the same way as the rmxpu theme.
  7. I ran some theme tools yesterday that come with the forum software and I suspect that has caused it. I've just sat down at my laptop now so haven't been able to take a look until now. It's rather odd, I'll see what I can do.
  8. *googles before seeing avatar* Her? Well welcome to RMXPU

  12. I was quickly skimming through my emails and I found this tutorial. Maybe some of you will find it interesting http://www.binpress.com/tutorial/create-a-mobile-rpg-for-beginners/1
  13. Havn't been on rmxpunlimited.net in so long its weird seeing the design. Its so.. square.

  14. This topic is to get a general idea of what the most popular resolutions are for mobile devices. Please vote in the poll and or post below :) I'm guessing that it will be phone-portrait followed by table-landscape, but I'm not too sure. I would like to prioritize mobile compatibility of the new site but the plan is definitely for the site to be fully responsive. The first device style to be done is definitely gonna be mobile-portrait, to fit my phone :) If you go to the new site's homepage and squish in your browser you can see it in action. Although what you're going to see here is the default responsive settings snapping the grid to various widths, so no real work has been done (so basically, it looks ugly right now, but you get the point of how it works).
  15. Oscar Pistorius is a South African 400m meter who is currently competing the London 2012 Olympics. However Oscar is a double amputee and runs using artificial legs He formally ran in the paralymics but was given the go ahead to compete with normal athletes in the Olympics. I believe this was on the basis that the blades do not give him any advantage in running. What's you're opinion on this? -should Oscar be allowed to compete with normal athletes in the Olympics? -is this fair or not on the other athletes? -is it possible to tell whether or not the blades are an advantage? The 400m is a sprint, and medals are won on fractions on a second Hopefully some of you guys are interested in the Olympics :P Any events left that you guys are looking forward to?
  16. ...google won't tell me what that means.
  17. Only 4.5 million people, 10th on the Olympics table so far. Boom.

No I mean the population of new Zealand is 4.5million and at the time of my status we were 10th overall on the medals table. On population we're 1st.

  18. Yes, I think they're spot on actually. I never thought about making minecraft a sub-forum of video games. Actually, I willfully didn't even learn what minecraft is. Probably just another thing for people to get addicted to and waste more of their lives.
  19. I think he was talking 'bout the new site which yeah, doesn't have a page for rules at the moment. It's not a refusal to let go of the past at all. Just because I admitted to being sentimental doesn't mean that's the reason for my decision. You also just reiterated and I've already replied, so you've made no counter argument. Even if what I mentioned in my last post were to fail, I don't think the best way to counteract a perception of inactivity is to remove everything. All past topics are buried in pages, so the number of topics are just numbers. If anything it gives the impression of activity. Perhaps you think no one ever posts here? I don't think its as bad as you think. It's not great, as I've described above, but its a fine place to build from. If GDU is to have a downfall I don't think that will be it. Yeah but what's better for activity, a recent posts or no recent posts list? I've experimented with removing it. I also rewrote the recent posts to allow the ability of loading more and an Ajax request pulls the list down. Furthermore I've planned for more than a year to create a dashboard to bring up topics/posts that would be of interest to the member (ie you let the system what you're interested in via tags and content with these tags show up) and also topics the member has posted in or started would show up. The basic idea is to ensure as much relevant content to the specific user is delivered and easily found by the user.
  20. @Chief & Kirhi: I removed your discussion. It doesn't matter who started it, both of you made comments to provoke the other. Again, just don't, if you have problems with each other then deal it with in PM. Though that wasn't so bad, it just doesn't need to be in this topic. Yeah despite not like minecraft at all, I made it because it was so popular. Some of the topics in there are a decent source of google traffic coz so many like minecradt. And if you like minecraft, there's a good chance this forum has something for you. Also, 30 topics in the minecraft forum compared to 36 in video games? That's close. You actually look down the list of forums? I thought no one did that and just relied on the recent posts hook. I disagree that it will beneficial in the long run. Sure there's always hype with a new forum, but then that quickly dies down. We're not the most active right now, but I disagree the site will look inactive when the new site goes live. Yes we have issues retaining members and turning out traffic into active posters, that's part of the point of the new site. We would lose all traffic. With enterbrain's english forum, any new forum for rpg maker would die. However we're not all about the rpg makers anymore. And even if it was beneficial, its out of the question. I'd never do it. What is this site without its history? I think its very important. Without it you cannot see the contributions of certain members such as rmpxu legends. You can see everything kiriashi had done here, and if we started again it would be like he never existed. I guess I'm sentimental. It would also kill all of our traffic from search engines. To be broad, the plan is to create a desirable website (that skips an awful lot amount of steps), and then send emails to our the subscribers to the gdu release, and a bulk email to all of our members (which i estimate about 8,000 will receive the email). So if the site has succeeded in getting rid of these issues rmxpu currently has, those members should stay, and hopefully things will build strongly from there.
  21. Before this starts, don't. :) I don't think we need to bring traffic into this discussion. The problem with advertising is that I don't believe the site is good enough to stop those users leaving. I've been working on the new site since literally before 2011. I'm working as fast I can. Once the site is in a state where we've got rid of all the bugs, performance issues, etc. then we could advertise and make more attempts at getting traffic. The amount of times I've read this post from you :) I think its an achievement in itself that you're even a lurker here, you've been here from the start. One member isn't going to make a difference really and it comes down the website that should be attracting members to get involved in the community. Clearly there are issues are with this forum, and they're so sever that I started on a new site entirely.. right now, activity is down and that's unfortunate, but I see no other option but to bare through it until the new site is up. Time doesn't permit any other route. Actually I've been planning forum changes for some time and I've got several ideas. Particularly with those bottom 2 categories. So if you guys want to make suggestions in this topic I'll definitely take them into account when I do change the forum structure. Perhaps a hidden category. Every topic has potential to bring in more traffic from random search queries on google, so we may as well maximize those extra hits.
  22. Between GDU and my job, I'm thoroughly burned out from making websites right now... x.x
