okay so I'm building a fishing script and need a little help. right now the problem is comparing 2 arrays. basically i have @bait_info which holds a list of fish that the bait attracts, and @local_info which has a list of the fish at the location. What I need is for both arrays to be checked and if a fish is in both arrays to be put into a new one @possible_catch. not sure how to do this without 300 lines of code....any suggestions? EDIT: Never mind, i found how to do it. it was pretty simple. @pc = @bait & @local. what ever is common in both arrays is put into the new array. Hurray learning!

How many cutscenes are "too many"?
dolarmak replied to GermanyXItaly1000's topic in General Game Development
personally i find cut scenes can be a great way to show the relationships of the characters, however that must be weighed against the game play. you defiantly can not have more cut scenes than game play. so if you find your game is too heavy eliminate the weakest ones. never make cut scenes for the sake of making cut scenes. Make sure information in the cut scene is relevant to the story and try to keep them under 2 minutes at a shot. That can be hard because not every one reads as fast as some of us can, but try and take an average look at your cut scene and unless it's super important shorten it. there is no real limit, but i'd even go so far to say don't make more that 1/4 of the game cut scenes. I've played some games where for nearly the first 2 hours were cut scenes with a brief walking part maybe 3 times...that sucked i never played it again even after my cousin swore it got better after that,,,it was just too much. make sure the player feels useful. -
hey noob, i've been in the same boat as you, i have a bit more free time now that classes are done.

welcome to GDU Lawrence, good luck with your game.

I was looking around for scripts and i found this that might interest you http://forum.chaos-project.com/index.php/topic,13852.0.html it should give the custom resolution you wanted but i'm not entirely sure how it works. Good luck tho

Giving up and leaving and apologies

don't just give up so quickly. Every project has it problems but if you're really passionate about it then you need to try and work out those issues. -
a great game in the making!
dolarmak replied to Mcshabarang Campbell's topic in Introductions and Farewells
you'll need more information about the game so we can decided if we like the idea or not lol glad you joined and good luck with it. -
The problem with RpgMakers is that they don't do window enlargement very well and things tend to get...messy when you try. You might find a script that'll do it, but i know from past experience that it never looks good. everything in the rm compiler is set on specifics down to the pixel. Good luck.

Trevor, you'll need to be a bit more specific about your problems before any one can help you. what type of error are you getting?

Looks great, I love the new updates you've added.

the biggest problems with custom menus designed by some one else is that they may not be compatible with other scripts you're using. If it's just a graphical style you like, I know how to do it (your links seem to be dead for me so i donno exactly what you're looking for) but as for animations I'm a little unsure how to do that. Moonpearl might be able to give a hint if he's ever online.

big maps might also make it laggy tho you dont have a lot of options at that point. you could make one coloured tile for testing and before you release the game set the colour blank

my user name was a character i created for a D&D game with a friend. kinda just made it up, been using it for nearly 17 years now

im all for the changes, these were things that i know marked really wanted to implement and they look nice. i'm also for the clean design, for a personal page its not good, but for forums you generally look for practicality over clutter and it works well

yeah i know, my classes are really hard so i have to spend a lot of time studying and working in the lab on experiments. Its fun tho, electronics is a interesting subject and i'm enjoying designing and building electronic circuits, even if they're just simple ones at this point. Glad i was missed, i'll try to get on once in a while and say hi and help if i can lol

Hey guys, just thought I'd give a shout and see what people are up to these days. School has been pretty tough the last few month, my program takes up a lot of my time, sorry i haven't been around. Been toying with a few game ideas the last few days, might take a little free time and work on it, but i doubt it lol. Whats every one else been up to?

sure the RM editor isn't fantastic, but then again it's come a long way. Its better than the early days. But there are a few features I'd like added, more than 3 layers would be nice, tho i bet 5 layers might make things lag. can't think of anything else to add to make it better, but i bet lots of people can fill in suggestion for you Salt.

lol i'm probably the worst for birthday remembering. I don't see it as a big deal, but some people do. Hope it was a good day for you Zahraa, next year you'll be 16 and a whole new set of pressure will be put on your shoulders so enjoy it while it lasts.
